So JU goes into a Bagel Place today to get a coffee (Brugers Bagels).  I get a large coffee and thats it.  The lady rings me up, and it comes to $2.02.  So I reach into my pocket and have no change, just 3 one dollar bills.  So I look around the counter to see if there is one of those penny holders that many places have so people don't have to waste their time swapping loads of coin and whatnot.  Anyway, I don't see any penny holders but there is a tip glass with tons of pennies and change.  But no, what does this d-bag do?  Takes my $3 and starts to go through the till for 98 cents in change.  Thats right, instead of just reaching into the tip jar and just putting 2 ****ing cents into the register, she goes the whole ****ing 9 yards and gives me 98 cents in change.

But wait, theres more.  Right before she drops 13 coins into my palm, she grabs the ****ing RECEIPT and throws it in my hand and then drops the ****ing coins on top of the ****ing receipt like a ****ing paper weight!  Nothing pisses JU off more than cashiers giving me a receipt for something stupid like coffee, gum, or a coke.  These ****holes should ask if you want a receipt and not assume you want it.

Rant ****ing over.

+k...exactly pbr appreciates the ones who ask if u want a receipt. really why the f would pbr want a receipt for a pack of gum pbr bought....this is why pbr really likes patronizing the locally owned shops. most of those owners would of said dont worry about the .02....that is what keeps people coming back and they end up making more in the long run. the franchises never offer that and you get a brass knuckle of coins back. and who needs pennies anyway? really just round the ish up and pbr will pay the xtra few cents not to have to carry the annoying pennies around and the govt can stop stamping them and save money...

JU she was hoping you would just dump all the change back into the tip jar. That's how they DLIP ya. Gro hates paying with cash and they give you the receipt and/or bills then dump the change on top. If you don't catch it correctly the bills act like a slip and slide and you've got coins flying everywhere.

Gentlemen,

I share your concerns, and never understand why they don't just eat the 2 cents (well, actually, I do, having worked in retail my adult life, cashiers are programmed not to think). I think the bigger issue is, why do pennies still exist? Hell, I'd even eliminate the nickel. Dime's can stay for a while, but their time is short in my mind as well.

But the real question is, what are you guys doing still using cash?

Gro is correct- they are doing that for the tips.

I absolutely feel the same way about all that stuff....seriously...leave a empty dish by the register and I would bet people figure out the whole give one take one without you having to put any effort into it.  Of course that may mean that you don't get a 4 cent tip on top of your $7.25 hr wage.....but that's what they invented college for.

On that subject, if I see one more tip jar sitting on the bar of a wedding with open bar that HAS ALREADY PAID THE 20%, I am going to grind it up in little pieces of glass and feed it to the bartender, then make the owner cut the bride and groom a check for the amount they prepaid.

+k well spoken that was a future rant of pbr's...drives me nutz when you know they cut a check for a 20% tip built in to the open bar but still expect extra and then the WORST is if you dont drop a tip they give you a look like your cheap...pbr is to the point of when getting that look dropping a c note on them and telling them to put that towards a college education...

Funny you mention that. Gro uses the check card at all times. My debit card has a nice scuff mark on the mag strip and only reads 50% of the time so Gro has been using cash lately and procrastinating getting the card replaced. Cash sucks.

Also, Gro has OCD when it comes to having the bills in his wallet in order. I know some of you love to go 1, 5, 1, 1, 20 yes! but not me. I am THAT GUY. Vegas was brutal on the OCD.

Doid are you that guy using your debit card for a $2 cup of coffee?  That takes just as long.

Reg I hear ya on the open bar thing, but are we sure that the bartenders get the 20% and not the catering company?

Oh, and I made sure I only left the pennies (3 cents) in the tip jar.

Whoa, easy there on the assumptions. Especially in this economy. If you're working in food service or retail, that doesn't automatically mean you're uneducated. I took a second job in retail for three years to help make ends meet after some personal $h!t went down.

PBR...

btw 1 last thing on concussions...here is a story talking about concussions and how several nfl players have donated their brains for study and as well as former players. what they are finding is pretty scary. forget about the achey knees/shoulders etc... after reading what they are finding in studies is alarming....

Enginegro,

TDT does the same thing and doesn't understand why everyone doesn't do this ish.  You want things organized.  But why are you messing around with 1 dollah bills?  You know your fellow Playa Hata Mr. Milwaukee uses them to Make It Rain in the Boogie Down.  They take up too much space in the wallet.

BTW: Here is a HUGE TDT pet peeve.  Example: TDT only has a 50 and 2 100s in the wallet.  Goes to the local (fill in the blank here; pizza joint, drug store, restaurant, drycleaners, etc) and wants to pay cash.  $$ due might be $7.89 or $14.53 or $28.06, whatever it may be, TDT hands them the "big" bill and they look at you like I've got a 3rd Fing head.  Umm here sweetie let TDT help you (Does the LLPP want to help out the cashiers or reach across the counter and knock some heads at these mindless zombies??).  You hand me 2 20s and a couple of 1s and we are done.  I know it is mind blowing that someone might not carry 37 5 dollar bills to pay for the drycleaning.  BTW: Something similar has happened to TDT at the bank.  They couldn't hand me Hundreds and TDT's head nearly exploded.  At the bank!!!  Holy ish.

I have the same affliction.  It drives me crazy when I see cash stuffed and folded all messed up in my wife's wallet.  How the HELL does she know how much $ she has in there!?!?!?
