First of all, I was going to support this kid, when I thought it was Trevor.  It's bad enought trying to get a prom date loose enough to do what you want her to do when you are in HS, so he probably didn't think this through.  Uncovering the man behind the curtain, however, has made me realize I'm too nice.

On another note, anyone see this story?  Not shocking.  I think there could be a number of 1-AA and even some 1-A programs that look to fold up shop.

Cross that one off your list, Ernie...

But seriously, I would lay odds that this is an attempt to get boosters to sink more money into the program.  When Siena tried this a while back (a much smaller school with much less history and success), the program was nearly immediately re-started (like a week later).  There is NO way Hofstra is serious about this.  Keep your eye on it -- I bet this is going to be flipped within a month after alumni outcry and money come pouring in.

just saw this...tough times for that conference when northeastern dropped football as well earlier this week...2 teams dropping out of the conference is not good in any time let alone in these economic times

What surprises me is that they chose to drop football altogether, rather than drop down to DIII, especially Hofstra, which was once in DIII back in the 80's.

Very sad about Hofstra...they always had a very good program and it is especially sad for the players.  Any kid who wants to get recruited to an Eastern 1AA program right now needs to face the fact that there are now about 200 more kids looking for a roster spot someplace else...not insignificant.

They changed the rule in the mid 90's that you can't have multidivisional programs and if you know LI, you'd know they wouldn't do that to Lax and BB.

On another note, calling U89...Chuck Priore might be available for the U.

wow...

Just another day for the LLPP Truth Squad, SF.  No need to be concerned.

By the way, as I play catch up with things this week, I never got a chance to congratulate you for your work on the games and the inteviews on the podcasts the past couple weeks.  Great work!

Thank you, sir.  I didn't think I did that well ... just sounded like another "Hick from French Lick", IMO... I'm hearing there was quite an audience for the JHU/TMC game... like around 1,000 or so.

Sounds about accurate.  Keith and I were prodding our listeners of the Wesley game to tune you guys in, providing play-by-play readings to let people know the game was building to a crescendo in the last quarter.  Sounds like you guys were up to the task of handling the exposure -- and I didn't think you sounded "hick-ish" at all, from what I heard.

Thanks man.  I thought it would be harder to be "neutral" since it was TMC playing, but I didn't use any "ours" or "we" in there.   And Richard is very good as PBP.   Its fun for me doing those webcasts.  I've only done a couple of them, so I know there's room to get more comfortable with it.

So you are saying kids from the All State "watch list" could fall ALL THE WAY DOWN TO D3??  Oh the humanity..

Yea Id bet its done altogether from what happened at Northeastern.   You have to wonder how long the AD and trustees knew they were going to drop the program.  You really have no choice but to do it now though, so coaches can get other jobs, and players can look at other schools.

At NU they had been asking for donations and support all year from what I heard.  Even asking for money 2 weeks before the announcement.

Ah, forgot about that. But, Hofstra playing DIII lax would be pretty nasty, no DIII lax schools of note there, and would compete favorably with Post for local, non DI talent. Outside of Stevens, though, would have to drive a ways for any competition.

As to Chuck, I wish (just named Big South Coach of the Year). But SB has spent a lot of money on the football program over the past decade, that would surprise me if they shut it down. But hey, Hofstra and Northeastern surprised me too.

Man, I just read through that mrmarket forum thing.  That dlip is ridiculous.  Ever heard of opportunity cost or discount rate?

Methinks this guy once worked for Jordan Belfort.

I don't think that football at Stony Brook is going anywhere. They have a fairly new (early part of the decade) $22-million dollar stadium and they just went to the full scholarship limit for I-AA which is around 66.  If anything, it wouldn't surprise me if down the road SB looks to another conference since trips from Long Island to Virginia and the Carolinas aren't exactly cheap. Lots of D-I FBS transfer players on the roster too including a cornerback that played in the Rose Bowl for Michigan a few years back.

I am sure at least a dozen of the Hofstra kids will go down the road to Stony Brook.

Gonna hold off until tomorrow, thanks to Amtrak's delays today heading into the City.  However, it will be done.
