What is up with the Stagg Bowl game?  No television for the D-III championship - did the loggers of North America contest take the 4 p.m. time slot?

Nope it was a series of insignificant college basketball games at the beginning of their season.  Apparently any basketball game is a bigger money maker at any level than a championship at D-III.

And the lawyers tell the managers to use a euphemism to explain to the rest of us that is was because of a failure to agree on, what did they ball it?  Oh yeah, "rights restrictions" - meaning not enough beer and truck ads at D-III - good luck fellas - maybe we will see you next year but you just never know.

My rant is complete - TV is a slimy and scurvy industry.

Congratulations to Villanova - at least their game got on tv too!

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night - now where is that #$@% snow shovel?

It's on ESPN Classic

It's a shame that not many people are getting to see this game.  These 2 teams would be building some serious credibility to d3 football.  Granted, they are both head and shoulders above any other teams, but they are both extremely impressive to watch.

pg04

It is very impressive.  I'm rather impressed with MUC's resiliency in the game...

StLarry - how about Villanova's winning the FCS championship?!

TGP heard that the VU coach was once the HC at SLU (about 25+ yrs ago), but interesting connection.

Wouldn't mind having him back, the guy seems like a pretty incredible coach.

Thanks pg4

Ah - the one my FIOS portfolio does not carry - oh yeah, and ESPN deportes - we don't have that one yet either but then again - hay es una no problema.

Still would like to see who is capable of defeating MUC - that is always a wondrous thing to behold since it is very rare.

pg04 - my apologies on the name.

And in case anyone is wondering - in the DC area/northern VA we got close to 20 inches of snow making this the number 5 worst snowfall of all time.

Monday morning should be a very interesting rush hour - think I might have to be SIQ.

Knightstalker will interpret for all you landlubbers.

Maybe so, but I played when Phelps was an assistant at Hobart and think the guy is one of the nicest people I've ever met (in fact Phelps, Ike Collins and Bobby Wynn were all awesome guys, Cheplick, well, I'll let someone else defend him).  I don't think Phelps is the problem with SLU right now.

Agree on Phelps being a great guy and tremendous coach.

It did take the VU coach 30 yrs to win a NC and TGP thinks it had a lot more to do with Szczar more than his coaching.

Speaking of SLU - big congrats to SLU SR DL Gerard Bryant on being named a 1ST TEAM D3football.com All-American.

TGP became a fan of GB after interviewing the SR DL on ITH.  TGP wishes GB nothing but the best in football and life - this kid may not have won many games over his SLU career but Gerard is definitely a winner - hands-down.  K+ to D3fb for recognizing a great season like Bryant's.

Andy Talley did a great job at SLU and had the Saints in the NCAA playoffs in the late 1970s...probably why they wanted him at Villanova. He was likely at SLU during Alex Yunevich's final season when the Saxons eked out a 3-2 win on windy Weeks Field--a week after AU had gotten a first inning 3-0 lead at South Hill Field only to have the Bombers rally in the fourth for three runs to tie it at 3-3, long before the college game's overtime rules went into effect...but Pep digresses.

StLarry played under Phelps, and he is indeed a good guy and a great coach.  He has done a very nice job of recruiting considering the the location of SLU turns off a lot of people.

SLU had great teams in the 70's and 80's, partially due to the wrestling team.  Most guys on the wrestling team (many of them All Americans) played football too.  When the wrestling team left, the football program took a nose dive.  Still a lot of people pissed off about that, including Kirk Douglas, an AA in the 30's.

Big congrats to Gerard Bryant.  +K to LLPP for our first team AA!

dlip was soooooooooo impressed with the level of play yesterday by both teams. Holy **** that was some excellent team football accompanied by some great individual performances. Both teams played at a very high level. Congrats to both teams and especially U Rubba Dubba on their Stagg Bowl victory. Two national championships in three is years quite ****ing impressive, especially when both of the victories came against MUC. Now dlip looks forward to next season in hopes of da U making a run and getting into the tourney.

I think it's better than it simply being Mount Union rolling through uncontested, which was pretty close to the norm before.

You know, I thought about that at the end of the game, and remember thinking it was nice that people other than MUC could win. But I also thought, back when it was just MUC rolling to the titles, at least there was an underdog to root for in the NC game. Now, that's kind of been eliminated, so you start rooting for the underdogs in the semis. It was a pretty amazing game to watch, but even though U-WW was probably considered the underdog, it was a little hard getting behind them, at least compared to say, the St. John's of a few years ago
