The Rev just can't stand any of these media whores chirping anyone.

P.S.  BTW, the Rev would like to apologize to any whores who are offended by being compared to Mass Media.  I respect your profession, as you serve a valued purpose in this world, while the mainstream media does not.

How come my Rev doesn't talk like that? Cmon, Rev, lose the day job and go back to being a Rev, I'd go to church every day and twice on Sundays. We could get you a TV show (hell, a TV channel), and I guarantee that kind of sermonizing would make you rich beyond your wildest dreams. + K for the rant.

JT's Catholic.  One of the biggest beefs JT has with Catholic religion is not letting priests marry.  They used to allow it.  The reason they stopped, M-O-N-E-Y.  If priest had little or no family, the church would get most or all of the priest's estate.  Certainly helped turn it into the wealthiest religion.

Let em have families.

Couldn't agree with you more, it's my biggest beef with the church. I'm Irish Catholic, with some priests/nuns in my family history (none in this generation), but always had an issue with the ban on marriages, and with all of the scandals, it's gotten to the point that I wouldn't dare let any of my kids be altar boys, and have thoughts about chosing another religion. The church is out of touch with the real world.

There are people like this in every religion.  Use their authority to abuse.  It easy to pick on Catholic due to its size.

The good outweigh the bad IMHO.  Most people on the front lines are great.  But its a business, just like any religion.  I like to cut through the BS. I'm on the cafeteria plan anyway.  We need a priest shortage in order to have married men and women by priests IMHO.  Think about how many men would be late for football if there was a hottie behind the altar.

JT couldn't live without the occasional pickle tickle, so that ended his brief thought of becoming a priest.  He does look ready for the order in his confirmation picture though.

Given Don "Moose" Lewis's press announcements, I thought at first this had to be an article in The Onion. Sadly, it is not. This just in: Ignorant, racist crackers are alive and well in the South. Couldn't make this stuff up if you tried. Why doesn't the guy just rent a copy of "Hoosiers"?

A new professional basketball league boasting rosters made up exclusively of white Americans has its eyes set on Augusta, but the team isn't receiving a warm welcome.

The All-American Basketball Alliance announced in a news release Sunday evening that it intends to start its inaugural season in June and hopes Augusta will be one of 12 cities with a team.

"Only players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league," the statement said.

Don "Moose" Lewis, the commissioner of the AABA, said the reasoning behind the league's roster restrictions is not racism.

"There's nothing hatred about what we're doing," he said. "I don't hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here's a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like."

Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of "street-ball" played by "people of color." He pointed out recent incidents in the NBA, including Gilbert Arenas' indefinite suspension after bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room, as examples of fans' dissatisfaction with the way current professional sports are run.

"Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?" he said. "That's the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction."

The Atlanta-based league, which will operate as a single-entity owning all of its teams, is looking for local contacts to pay $10,000 to become a "licensee" in one of 12 cities throughout the Southeast. Lewis said he has already received threats from people opposed to the roster restrictions and several cities have told him to stay out of town. Lewis said he has yet to hear from any one in Augusta.

"We need a local person ingrained into the community to make this successful," he said.

Lewis said he expects to eventually find support in every town with a team.

"People will come out and support a product they can identify with. I'm the spoken minority right now, but if people will give us a chance, it'll work... The white game of basketball, which is essentially a fundamental game, works."

This whole thing drips with racism... he won't find support for it.

I actually agree that Priests should be able to marry...JC himself had no beef with marriage.  I just dont buy the reasoning you are offering.  Please explain.

prolly shouldnt go here but....there are 2 sides to every story.  Just what if the guy isnt a racist?  What if he really is just an entreprenneur with an idea in a free economy....let the consumer in this country be the judge.

Maybe there is a market out there for people who just want to go to a game and see some back-door cuts and chest passes.

Now the question becomes...is Jason Williams (the white tattooed one) allowed in the league just because he is white?  If so, then I agree that the thing smacks of pure racism, cuz that baller aint know nuthin 'bout runnin the weave or 'bout the 2-handed set shot.

I was kind of wondering the same thing.  Couldnt the priest leave his estate to whomever he wanted to anyway?  They usually live on church property but I assume could buy other property if they wanted to right?

SJFF82

A priest could certainly leave his estate to whomever he wants.  To follow JT though.... a married priest by most state law would be bound to leave a share to his wife.  My point was that the opposite unmarried priest likely has little net worth to leave the church anyways.

...and yes, in today's landscape, many priests are now living 'off-campus' so to speak due to dwindling clergy.  Not sure they own the property though.  Probably renting with the tithe.

dont they take a vow of poverty so if any estate were left to them an easy convenient place to will it to would be the church. since your working for/with the church your estate then can do good and in a small way help yourself

Let's be honest, this guy is as racist as they come, he didn't where his whites to the press conference because he had burned his best set the night before.

But now, as to Jason Williams, I can't imagine they'd let him in because of the tats. Thrown in the fact that his nickname is "white chocolate", and he's out. Hell, the whitest guy in the league (Dirk Nowitzki) is out too (non-American). As is Steve Nash, all the Yugoslav's/ Europeans. What does that leave? A league centered around Adam Morrison and his trailer park mustache? Unless, of course, the "Basketball Jesus" comes out of retirement. Hmmm, let's think this through, Ernie Grunfeld can be the commissioner, and the Van Gundy brothers could be coaches (hell, no way to narrow down a list of white coaches), and then... hey, someone already did the work for me: http://www.rotoevil.com/nba/all-white-team

Actually Hyannis and South Yarmouth would be perfect for this show.  Although there is no boardwalk or cheezy beach scene, these areas of the cape are filled with massholes.  There are some good cheezy bars down there that you really don't see in Boston Proper.  Although I agree with LD that there are much better places to have the show, and bigger areas to pluck massholes out of.

And of course, students at BC and BU are some of the biggest massholes around. ....then again, most of them are from other parts of the country.

Hey Teddy...hmmmm JT, never really have any reason to question your logic, but on this one....If priest has little or no family and presumably follows the priesthood and remains loyal to the church, how much money (assets) is he going to die with anyway???

I actually agree that Priests should be able to marry...JC himself had no beef with marriage.  I just dont buy the reasoning you are offering.  Please explain.

Priests were allowed to marry during the 1st century.  I would think that back then priests were not peasants.  They owned land, a home, livestock, and maybe even the church.  A wife and children would generally get the most of the estate. Even with tithing, perhaps the church thought it was getting stiffed at a time when it was trying to grow.  I think the celibacy thing is bunk. What better way to show your faith then to bring a family up in the church?

Even today a $100K estate per priest is not unreasonable, many accumulate some assets: stock, car, jewelry etc.  Also, quite often priests get life insurance with the beneficiary being the church.  Nuns often do the same.  A 20 something can get a 100K universal policy with growing cash value for about $500 a year.  $750 or so in their 30's.  I'm not saying this is wrong.  I just think a priest or a nun should be able to build a family within the church.  I think it would make the church better.

I was briefly a financial planner during the Bush I recession.  A nun picked up my card from somewhere.  It led to a cottage industry for about 2 years.  That combined with substitute teaching kept JT rolling.

A minor issue might be nepotism.  A priest could install his son as his successor, preventing the church from installing their own man.

Why can you have a family pre-priesthood or sisterhood but not afterwords?
