KS has to get a fishing license this year.  Took the Stalkerette to the trout hatchery for their open house and youth fishing day and she loved it.  Caught two trout, kind of a set up, they let the kids fish in one of the breeder ponds but lets them see what it is like.

Stalkerette with the guy from the hatchery with her second rainbow trout.

nice size rainbow. we stock my friends pond on his farm and let our kids fish. total blast...and perfect cook out w/ some fresh trout and cold beer and open fire

Although dlip primarily fishes for Bass and Walleye he loves some good old Trout fishing. Season opens up here in NY next week dlip believes. he will for sure take a day and hit the Kadeross! The youth day fishing sounds great KS, thanks for the cool pic!

Made the kids catch and release yesterday but it was fun.  KS just has to drive 5 min north or south from Mom KS house to hit a good trout stream.  The Pequest is to the north and the Musconetcong is to the south.   Plus a some nice state run ponds and reseviors in the area.  KS had a blast yesterday, Stalkerette was too young for the Skeet or Archery this year but KS found a couple of ranges where kids can shoot near Mom KS.

Pep was spoiled when he was taken fishing by an uncle in North Carolina back when Pep was a youngster...the water boiled with fish when we threw bread or corn into the water at that mountain hatchery. A decade later, Pep's attempt at fishing on the Genesee River proved futile.  :(  Pep, like Pep Sr., is not much of a fisherman. Just call Pep an angry angler.  >:(

All these trout fishing stories conjured up one from my past.

My father and I used to go fishing all the time.  Naturally, as a kid, I had zero patience and since we were from a long line of worm dunkers patience was the way we rolled.

One time, when I was off screwing around, my father tapped my fishing pole to simulate a strike, calling out to me.

I ran over and grabbed the pole and started to frantically reel in.  Much to my dad's amazement there was a huge brown trout on the other end.

Moral of the story: you can never tell what you are going to catch when you are out screwing around.

Corollary: time fishing with your dad is among the best times of all.

Thanks for the memories and stories one and all!

went to an off campus spring fling party at lyco many years w/ pbr's sister....someone that went to lyco lived on a farm not too far from campus and would throw a huge all weekend party w/ music/kegs etc on the farm. there was a stream on the farm that we would go fish in during the day in our intoxicated state and catch trout and grill them up. perfect days...fresh fish/cold beer/warm temps/live music

So I se RIT is in the d1 mens frozen four.  My understanding was that d3 schools could no longer have d1 sports unless they already had them?  Since RIT only went d1 four years ago, I assumed mens hockey was different since the NCAA wanted more teams?

RIT hockey has only 1 New York player on the roster.

I think the rules are different for Hockey because there are only a limited number of Colleges/Universities that have teams.

Yea thats what I heard.  The NCAA wanted more d1 hockey teams so they made an exception.  Id love to see Ithaca get a d1 hockey team.

What happened was (dlip believes he could be wrong) as a result of RIT being a D3 school they are unable to give scholarships for the hockey program. RPI was also in jeopardy of falling into this category but since they have had the program for so long they, Clarkson, and SLU are able to keep providing full rides for their Hockey players. dlip believes it was sometime after 2002/3/4 that this rule was made. Hence RIT only being D1 for 5 years they, along with any other D3 school that goes D1 in hockey is unable to give scholarships from that year on. RIT's run is incredibly impressive on all levels! The school most likely gives some type of "preferential aide" to it's hockey players (like Union) but that does not come ****ing close to equaling a full ride by any means. Also the fact that RIT is an incredible academic institution proves just how excellent these student athletes are. dlip is definitely pulling for them! This is a good hockey team with confidence and poise. Their run just may not be quite over yet. Great story!!!
