You can read the deputy sheriff's lips - this is the time when all Americans wish they were lawyers so they could lay some legal jargon on the officer.

Don't get me wrong, my son is a police officer, actually a police man, and I support law abiding.  But that does not entitle the police to over control every situation.

There are very good, justified, historical reasons, for our civil rights - ever check out an episode of "The Tudors" and see the junk Henry VIII did to his people over which flavor of Christianity they supported?

If there is nothing to see, and nothing wrong, why should anyone object to some YouTube action?

I say, videotape it all - as sunlight and transparency keep tyrants and bullies at bay.

+K ATB.

The Rev hears government representatives and fellow citizens say something to the effect of, "You have nothing to fear from surveillance/airport searches/wire taps/traffic cameras/etcetera unless you have something to hide or are doing something wrong."

The same measure must be applied to anyone in a position of power and authority.  If the police are doing nothing wrong--doing their job right and within the confines of the law--then they should actually welcome video cameras.  Videos will exonerate good police who do their job well, and force the thugs out of the profession.  That would be good for everyone: police should welcome the opportunity to weed out the bad apples, and the people deserve only the best police.  Police on video doing their jobs right can become YouTube heroes.

Rev's maternal great-grandfather, grandfather, and uncle were policemen.  Tough old Irishmen, but never thugs.  All three (plus three cousins) fought in various wars precisely so that American citizens would never be treated like sub-humans by thugs in uniforms.  That is what differentiated "US" from "Them".  With some of these guys, it's hard to maintain that Cold War paradigm.

Here is some good news.  Glad to see our leaders trying to do the right thing.

I cannot stand these guys.  If any one of them showed up for a funeral for one of my buddies I served along side with, they would have a hell of a lot more things to worry about then getting their $16,000 back...

This was an issue with these guys I remember.  Some states do not have specific statues regarding "disrupting funeral processions".  These were the states that this group went to.

What we need is a governor to step up and say he will pardon anyone who is convicted of throwing poop at this group.  That would be fun to watch.

Sorry to go off topic here, but has anyone else seen the Lindy's and Sporting News Football Issues? Pep spent some time at a Border's Bookstore on Sunday and was surprised to find the annual football mags already on the stands.

Pep promptly grabbed a copy of each, found a comfortable chair and read their pieces on D3. A few minutes later, Pep returned said mags to said stand, convinced that he'd much rather spend $6.95 (or whatever the fee will be) on a D3football.com online product.

Pep was happy (and somewhat surprised) to see both Ithaca and St. John Fisher of the E8 in the Top 25 list in one of the magazines, especially after many posters on these boards apparently concurred that 2009 was somewhat of a "down year" for the East Region.

Seems a bit early, but any word on the 2010 Kickoff?

PBR this isn't really what you think it is.  This just means that if a vehicle is flying down the street, a police officer doesn't have to have a radar or lidar on the vehicle to pull it over.  If a cop set up a speed trap and did speed enforcment for the shift by only using his "estimates", I'm sure courts would be less willing to just find all the drivers responsible for speeding.

The "proof" is what the officer testifies.  Remember, the officer can pretend to have the radar on as well.

Let's say you were a cop and you were stopped at the side of the road getting a nice donut and coffee.  Then right when you get into your car, you see a vehicle come down the road (lets say a 30mph rd) at what a reasonable person would estimate at 80 mph.  Shouldn't the cop have the right to pull him over and give him a ticket?

for me proof matters...so the cop estimates you were doing 60 in a 55mph zone and issues a ticket w/ no proof you have no problem with that? the courts ruled that as long as the officer is trained and graduated from the police academy that should be good enough to judge how fast a person is going as stated here in by the supreme court...

where does it stop? dood looks like a stoner so we dont need a warrant we can just walk into their house and search them or worse just arrest them....such its easy to estimate a car speeding 75mph in a 15mph zone but what about doing 41mph in a 35mph? what about what this country was founded on innocent until proven guilty....

fine by me....put it up for peer review first. believe its been tried before and failed but cant hurt to have people review her theory and numbers...looks like the east coast will be getting oil covered before long as well....

BP plc (NYSE: BP) give up gains on reports from the National Center for
Atmospheric Research showing that ocean currents will likely carry oil from the
Gulf oil spill along the Atlantic coast.

According to the reports, "...detailed computer modeling study released today
indicates that oil from the massive spill in the Gulf of Mexico might soon
extend along thousands of miles of the Atlantic coast and open ocean as early as
this summer."

"I've had a lot of people ask me, 'Will the oil reach Florida?'" says NCAR
scientist Synte Peacock, who worked on the study. "Actually, our best knowledge
says the scope of this environmental disaster is likely to reach far beyond
Florida, with impacts that have yet to be understood."

If this report proves accurate, the clean-up cost could be magnified for BP and
other involved.
