Same deal here in LA.  After an April and May where the temps were usually in the 60s we are getting 90+ heat starting Saturday.

TGP --- I think the Lakers had something to do with the heat getting turned up in LA LA land last night.  Sheesh.... I was hoping they'd give Kobe a shot to win it at the end.   Whats the over/under on flagrant fouls on Boston in game 2, as they try to intimidate Gasol and the boys?


thoughts on the the perfect game: 

Selig is indeed spineless, but whats done is done... they can't go back and say it was a perfect game... or even a no hitter.  When Joyce signaled safe, that ended it.   What is encouraging about the whole thing is sportsmanship shown by fans in Detroit, Galarraga, and the Detroit players.  After cussing the umpire on Wednesday night following the play, even Cabrera came out and patted the ump on the chest on the way to the field on Thursday.   Even better than all that was the way Joyce stood up after the game and admitted wrong. 

Because of the class Galarraga has shown, he's MUCH MORE well known now than if he had officially thrown a perfect game.  They'll probably asterisk him (the good kind) in the record books. 

This would've been the 3rd perfect game this year --- wow.

I agree with your analysis.  With virtually any other pitcher or umpire, this could have gotten ugly.  Toss in Tiger manager Jim Leyland, as well - after the game he and Galarraga went to comfort Joyce, who was absolutely distraught!!  Leyland also made an appeal to Tigers fans to not boo Joyce (mostly followed), and made the really classy move of sending Galarraga out with the line-up to HP ump Joyce the next day so they could publicly shake hands.

I think Bud Light (Selig) should have reversed the call in this one limited situtation, not so much for Galarraga's sake (because of the uproar, 30 years from now the only 'perfect' games most people will remember are Armando's and Don Larsen's ), but for Jim Joyce.  Idiots who take these things WAY to seriously have been sending death threats to him AND his wife and kids - to the point where he has felt compelled to hire a security team.  Bud Light is leaving Joyce (a very good man and very good umpire) hanging out to dry.

dlip agrees wholeheartedly. The class shown by all involved here seems unprecedented to dlip. First, dlip takes his hat off to Galarraga. What composure and maturity by the young man! He deserves all the credit he is receiving. On top of this he pitched a ****ing amazing game! Hats off to Joyce as well. Obviously he botched the call completely but he has maned up 100% and showed a lot of heart in his remorse for the mistake. Same respect to Leyland, Cabrera, and the rest of the team.

As usual dlip has an issue with Selig. dlip feels he should have made the exception here. If we take a look at baseball history this type of situation will not happen everyday or even every year. With all in agreement regarding the mistake why not fix it?

By the way, anyone making ****ing death threats to Joyce and his family should be dealt with in as harsh a manner as the law allows if they are caught. ****ing tools need to get a life and a grip on reality.
