and the domino's start to fall...

still hearing mizzou and ND is evidently having a internal battle on whether to come to the big10 or not.  they realize the super conferences w/ 16 teams are the future and could miss the boat for good

well the big10 isnt even planning a playoff still although the coaches want it. Problem for Texas is right now they are the big fish in the pond in the big 12. Political pressure is being put on big time to take aTm/Tx Tech/Baylor along w/ them wherever they go. Hence why the big10 has backed off Texas. The last 2 are not very strong academically and are not a good fit in the big10. Right now Texas calls most of the shots in the big12 and joining the pac 10 w/ usc et al texas wont be the sole big fish anymore. big 10 presidents and several other conferences reminded people in a presser last week that they are the ones who vote on any changes to the bcs/playoff and there are no plans to change it. i.e. a bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush, they see no reason to change things for a unknown when they have a cash cow right now.

made pbr think would combining smaller schools conferences have any benefits...i.e. playoff spots/money saving op's/etc... i.e. see the mac/njac combine as well as E8/LL combination...what if any plus/minus would there be?

EDIT: should note ju the biggest benefit of the conferences is bringing in more research grant money....100s of millions of dollars, pooling resources equipment/staff and almost limitless labor pool to draw on from undergrads/grad students is a huge huge plus and probably the biggest driver of this...$$$ rules the roost

The whole politics in Texas are interesting.  PBR, Baylor's actually quite a bit better academically than A&M and are in Dallas, so they're reasonably attractive (comparable with say Northeastern or American University, despite the shadow of Dave Bliss on that school).  Funny thing is TCU should've been in the Big 12 not Baylor during the combining of the SWC and other schools.  Baylor's got a lot of monied, influential alums that forced Baylor in and TCU out.

I'm personally loving this, because ultimately there's going to be chaos with the big 12 leftovers as well as the big east schools, and possibly some shakout with the ACC which may finally get these presidents to grow a sack and take back control of the academic institutions from ABC, NBC, ESPN, CBS, etc.  With the exception of the tail of the curve (Samari Rolle, maybe two other guys), these kids can't credibly be called students, attend class or are really even part of the larger insititution.

correct-a-mundo...when ann richardson was governor of texas being an alumni of baylor she made it very clear that they were to be put in the big12 over tcu or there would be hell to pay. word is aTm now is talking to the s.e.c. which would if they were to jump would free up texas to the big10 which is what they always have wanted to do...interesting how the emails just released in the freedom of information act showed the president of texas telling the president of ohio st. that  "we have a problem w/ tech..." meaning state legislature in texas was telling them they go no where w/o texas tech. But if aTm jumps ship that would free up texas to bail out to the big10 finally. Also would be interesting if the s.e.c. were to poach fsu and miami from the a.c.c. what would happen. to be clear pbr does feel for schools like kansas/kansas st. as they are going to get screwed in this... for sPitt and ND well they can just wallow in mediocrity in the conference usa forever they made their bed so go sleep in it...

EDIT: Is there a more renegade program than oregon right now? honest to go they truly are the new "U"...

What a bonehead.

Although I love these renegade programs.  And at least Kelly looks like he is trying to do the right thing there.

But what are Masoli's options in terms of the NFL or draft now?

dlippiel

Masoli what a ****ing waste. The kid definitley has some serious talent but obvioulsy isn't ready for the responsibility he needs to have in his life. Hopefully he can get his **** together and make something of himself either in football or a profession.

*Plus dlip hates his ****ing receiver face mask that he wears at QB.

I doubt that it means anything significant in the grand scheme of things, but BC has extended its Notre Dame series until 2019.

not really most have said any school moving to a new conference would be allowed to keep a few of their traditional rivals or buy out of the contract...latest rumors its crazy...no f'n clue on what to believe anymore w/ so many rumors flying around... here is the latest...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- High level sources in multiple conferences have told KCTV5 that Texas and Texas A&M are looking to move to the Big Ten Conference and have petitioned for membership, while the University of Oklahoma is planning on petitioning the Southeastern Conference to become a member of its conference.
KCTV5's sources said that Texas and Texas A&M do not have to include Texas Tech or Baylor in their plans. Sources told KCTV5 that there have already been discussions about the two schools entering the Big Ten and that the agreement could be made as soon as Thursday.
Oklahoma is currently working on petitioning to enter the SEC, but must find another university to enter the league with them, sources said. TMZ Sports has reported that Oklahoma State is likely to accept a bid to move to the Pac-10. Earlier Thursday, Colorado accepted an invitation to join the Pac-10.
KCTV5's sources also said that some Big 12 officials are saying decisions on which deals Big 12 schools take invitations by the end of the day Thursday, although the deals may not be officially announced. Big 12 officials also tell KCTV5's sources that some Big 12 office employees are planning to be without a job within weeks.
Those decisions would leave the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and the University of Missouri with Baylor, Texas Tech and Iowa State in the Big 12. The Missouri Board of Curators met Thursday and planned to meet Friday to discuss the future of Missouri sports.

TGPs grad school alma mater taking it on the chin today with 2 years of post season bans and 20+ scholarships cuts.  More proof Garrett is a d-bag more interested in booster donations than running a good program.

TGP was at USC from 02-04 and enjoyed the hey-dey.  Would be a real zing if the wins, championships from 04 and 05 are stripped too.

more than a zing...a full on smack down. pbr agrees w/ most that carroll/kiffin/garrett/usc admin's are all scumbags and all knew what was going on.... most walk away free and clear and the current crop of kids at usc pay the price. seriously going to hurt that program. red-ciulous that all the coaches and admins walk away w/ no penalties and until they are forced to bear the cross this type of thing will go on at programs.

Anyone been following the story about this 16 year old girl trying to sail across the world?  What a clown, and what a bunch of clown parents this girl must have.  I hope whatever rescue operation that finds her sends her a bill for $497,632.50 for search and rescue costs.

TGP agrees USC admin's deservedly look like DBs - we all knew Garrett was one already but TGP at least thought highly of Carroll.  This is also a joke to punish current students and not go after the real "culprits".  BTW - these sanctions were based on allegations, not hard evidence.  Not sure how that would hold up in a court of law but the NCAA plays by it's own rules.

Hmm, maybe the corrupt abuse of power in this storyline is the NCAA.....?

dlip concurs that her parents are paddling up the river using tooth picks but at the same time he applauds this girl's sailing ability, bravery, and smarts. Many 16 year olds today are doing much less (this includes dlip way back when he was 16) where this young lady is challenging herself. In a twisted way dlip feels after this adventure there will be nothing in life that stops her from achieving any goals she sets for herself in life. dlip does think the parents are ****ing stupid for allowing this adventure at the age of 16. If this young lady was hellbent on doing this maybe the parents should have made her wait two years until she was 18 so at least she would be doing it as a legal adult and not necessarily on their watch.
