OMG you gotta love Romper Room. Not sure whether he was syndicated but Buffalo also had Captain Kangaroo! Of course, Alfred University in one of its finer moments, presented an honorary doctorate to the Captain.

+K to all for good behavior on Romper Room!

EDIT: Indeed, Captain Kangaroo was syndicated by CBS in 1955. AU awarded the honorary doctorate to the Captain (Bob Keeshan) in 1969.

I have no idea whether the Captain originated in Buffalo, but he and Mr. Green Jeans was a network program.  I was a fan from their debut on CBS in 1955.  I'm unsure that syndication existed in the 50s.

BTW, unlike these folks who saw the MUCH later versions of Romper Room, I already found it childish when we got TV in about 1954 (though with VERY few choices, and a younger sister, I'm sure I saw it often)! :D  My first TV hero was The Lone Ranger (which originated in Detroit on radio in 1933, though I grew up in Peoria, IL, and only came to Michigan in 1970).

This was one of dlip's first crushes in the early to mid 80's as a boy. To dlip, at that time, she was perfect!!!

Some research last night turned up one more remnant. Purple Heys over on the IIAC board said he got an all-clear because of the fix.

JT

Back from cruise vacation and then a w/e family reunion in Toronto.  JT turned 29 again during the cruise.  Great weather (it was hotter in the Northeast than in the Caribbean), good food, nice beaches, duty free etc., etc.,

St. Thomas is THE place for jewelry and booze.  MJT got a gold topaz bracelet, and eyed some other more expensive ish.  JT tried on the platinum Rolex with mother of pearl face and diamonds for the numbers.  Sweet watch... 10K starting price.  Maybe next time.  8-)  JT was able to restock the bar, for cheap.

Saw some of MJT's extended family in Toronto.  All the women in the family were married to white doods.  JT was no longer the token at a Filipino function.  Lot of Canadian beer, pool time, and food.  Good times.  Oh and more duty free booze.  ;D

RIP to Waynesburg assistant coach and 2007 D3football.com first team All-American defensive end Mike Czerwien who recently passed away at only 24 years of age. dlip will say a prayer for him and his family.
