Hope everyone is having a good winter/spring (it's not too shabby in the southeast - Lew, I might have to see a couple of small banks down your way in the next two months) after a long hibernation.

Bart had a tough fall w/some talent, but a big ??? at QB...hopefully Strang is healthy for the fall.

Interesting news in Troy.  Good luck to the new staff.  Please ignore any tapes of Hobart running a fake punt or any other crazy plays.  It's not likely to come up in the future, Mike Cragg is a conservative dude.

It'll be sad to move on to the Nescac.  At least we'll get to see how a former LL team squares off vs. that conference.

What?????  We're not joining that conference, but we're only playing 8 games next year?

Well, at least Mike Hanna's gone.

You're kidding, he's still there???  After the 2000 playoff filing screwup, as well as all the lax f'ups over the last 15 years (ask the W Genny coach how he feels about Hobart after the O'Hara firing) including the "08 we're going DIII (after handing #15 Loyola they're jockstraps as they crawled off the Boz), no we're not", firing another popular alum coach, Kim Kimber and the NCAA filing f'up (again????) that led to NCAA sanctions.  And the guy still tries to defend himself on TWC, crying about an "arms race" (inferentially that he's unequipped to handle) in DI LACROSSE w/12/6 scholarships for 40+ members, as if that's the difference between picking up talented kids who are going to Siena or Fairfield.  How about Cabell Maddux (TGP, I know you know about that one) or Streeter loving the William Smith students a little too much?

Thanks for listening.  Back to your regularly scheduleed programming about the Purple Drank, a combo Donkey Punch/Swirl move.  good luck to all,   Enjoy your summers w/o picking up any unnecessary felonies.  Will check in down the road to see what chaos has occurred.  PA

boom goes the dynamite k+

Hey Coach Rev -

How's the football team coming along?

Speaking of coaching -

Hobart's Orlando Patterson '10  named HC at Blue Ridge (near Charlottsville, VA)

I mercifully do not need to be head coach. an alumnus is coming back to do the job (he has been coach for a few years, but wasn't sure if he could do it this year. He can.)  However, they have asked me to remain on as some kind of advisor. I think it helps the team to have an American professor supporting them, even if in minor ways.

My task now is to help them develop a better schedule for running practice. There is a LOT of grabassing. They only have practice four nights a week, two hours per night. They pretty much ignore defensive practice and special teams. when they told me that, I just about lost it. I've talked them into dedicating at least two of their 8 hours to Defense and one hour to Special Teams. Now, it's a matter of having them do it.

Believe it or not, the ish is so rough over here, that they don't even have a whistle or a watch. A girl walks around practice with her cell phone and tells the guys when it's time to switch activities. No kidding. It's bad.

I was going to go to my old school on Friday and pick up a couple books I bought about coaching youth football, but The Rev and the Caramel-Colored Angel are finally going to tie the knot at the local borough office Friday morning. So, I may just ask the school librarian to send the books to me in the mail. The Caramel Colored Angel doesn't like me going back to that town because she thinks The Rev is going meet up with old girlfriends.  JT, are all filipinas that suspicious? I can't even get football books without her thinking that my tallywacker is going to tackle half the female population of Korea.

Sounds good and TGP agrees about getting practice more focused on D and ST.

Congrats on the pending nuptials!

As a CT native, TGP was happy to see the Huskies win that stinker of a NC game last night.

That said TGP feels bad for Butler - they literally couldn't buy a basket last night.

Still TGP will take the NCAA over the NBA 10x out of 10.  Even if baskets didn't fall, you'll never see the kind of defensive hustle, passion and fight in a NBA (except maybe game 7 of the finals) game.

Strange for me I have turned into the opposite.  I used to love NCAA bball.  I'd watch 3-4 games a week 10 years ago.  I didn't even watch a game this tourney.  I can watch most NBA games though.  Maybe it is because the Celtics are doing better though.

Anyone else getting a little concerned about the Red Sox this season?  I know it's just four games into the season, but they just don't look sharp in the least...

TGP is a big sox fan but hasn't gotten to the point of needing to push the:

just yet, especially given the TB Rays are 0-4 too.

158 more games to go, but no team has ever started 0-4 and won the WS.  If the Yanks sweep us in the home opener, then TGP's concern will rise.

Nice story re Hobart Football recruit Troy Johnson

Guessing he comes in as a ILB or FB vs. NG/DT.  Not tall (5' 10"), but if he's a champion wrestler, there's no way he's a fat 250....

Brendan Kessler from York, PA also signed with Hobart to play lacrosse.  He is 6' 4" intends to play middie but it's not clear if he'll eschew football for "fall ball".  Kessler lead his HS team in receiving yards (~1000 and 12 TDs) and tackles (as a safety) last fall taking his team to the District 3 Class AAAA championship finals.

The hitting will be there but the pitching is as shaky as it was last year.  I'll give them a pass for the Texas series as the Rangers are a good team.  But every April the same shizz happens.  Crappy play in April cost the sox last year.
