The Rev is apparently one of the few Hobart a muni who thinks we should go back to D3 lacrosse. I'd rather phase the Statesmen play solid LL rivals like Union and RPI than to keep playing Syracuse and Cornell. We stay in d1 basically to placate those alumni for whom two historic rivals are more important than present and future success. Lacrosse has become too developed and too widespread for Hobart alumni to imagine that we would be perennial champs like were were prior to going to d1.
I think Hobart would still be one of the best in America, but championships would no longer be the expected outcome.

Agreed. I think Hobart is a fish out of water in DI lax. Can't offer scholarships, and the "glow" of the DIII dominance in the 80's has faded. That being said, I get how important the Syracuse and Cornell rivalries are, too bad the NCAA can't figure out how to let them continue playing if Hobart went back to DIII, where they still would be a strong contender. The LL is starting to get some lax momentum, and adding RIT (#1 ranked this year) to the mix of St. Lawrence, Clarkson, Union and RPI will only make it stronger. Hobart also has a ton of good lax in it's backyard (Nazareth, Cortland, etc), and could play a national schedule as well.

Given the reaction to the announcement that they were returning to DII, can't imagine that it will happen.

The thing about d3 lax now too is that the national championship game is going to have over 10k fans and is pretty much the biggest d3 champion event out of all the sports (mainly because it is bunched in with d1).  So that experience playing in the d3 championship game might be bigger than the average d1 experience.

And now that I'm thinking about it, what better time to drop down to d3 than while you are on probation/sanctioned.

Union takes it to Nazareth today, 15-7 in the first round of the NCAA's. Moving on to take on the mighty Tufts Jumbo's (defending champs) this weekend.

One of the great memories of childhood, reading Bill Gallo's cartoons/ captions in The Daily News. Always had the pulse of the NY sports scene. Seems like he was a pretty special guy.

This article is funny, but the comments are what really make the article superb.

hilarious.. Rev, your twitter cracks me up.

SF is looking at moving to the Southeast/Florida.  A couple of the choices are (Because of the shipping industry):  Wilmington NC, Charleston SC/Savannah GA area and South Florida.  SF has a big decision to make.  Already visited Charleston/Savannah (and have family there) and going to South Florida next month.  August 1 is the target date.  One thing that sucks is there's not really any D3
football unless its Wilmington NC.

Anyone have any insight on the these places ?

Love Charleston, had a friend of the family who moved there, and they would never leave. One of my wifes favorite places, a fantastic downtown, and a lot of fun. Definition of a large southern town to me. Wilmington is nice too, my in-laws lived in Wrightsville Beach for a while, and really liked it, but they were always sweating the hurricanes/ Noreasters. We now always notice that Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel  is always setting up shop there more often than not. Not a fan of Savannah, but just personal preference.

You couldn't pay me to live in South Florida (Miami/ Ft.L), but I know friends who like it. Good luck with the move.

There is no D3 football in Wilmington.  But it's a kickass place to live.

I've lived in S. Florida, and currently live in Athens,GA.  But I've been to both Savannah and Wilmington.  On the Whole, I like Savannah the best of those cities.  I would pick Savannah or Wilmington .  I got sick of South Florida rather quickly, even though I stayed 6 years.

'gro

Gro's 2 cents in the southern living debate... Wilmington NC or Charleston SC.  Wilmington is definitely kickass as LD11 put it. Real cool town, lots of stuff, and the beach. Gro's never been the Charleston but everyone raves about it. Never been to Savannah either but it seems to be the Baltimore of the south (minus The Wire). Lots of industry and other smelly stuff.

Choose Wisely.

Thanks fellas --- your input is appreciated.

Had a great time in Savannah the two times I've been there this year... but didn't make the St. Patty's celebration there.

Charleston has the old time charm and SF's likes the "talent" there --- its like shooting fish in a barrel.

I meant to say that Wilmington is at least kinda close to d3football... you can drive to.

One thing is for sure, time to get closer to the ocean.  SF is not married, has no kids and realizes its a great time to relocate.  Hopefully there aren't any offers in the Cincy area to keep me from getting out of the midwest.

SF...Dude....

Not married....no kids......ummmm......WTH are you DOING here?

Head south young man!

Charleston, Savannah, and Wilmington are also on my radar.  I don't think you could go wrong with any of those.  I am not a "South FLA" kind of guy, unless I had enough cash to live in a condo on Miami Beach.

Let me know where you land.......I will come visit.   ;)

Knightstalker

KS would go for Charleston if possible, even if they still have that silly bars closed from midnight saturday to midnight sunday law.

Union's Men's Lacrosse team falls in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament to defending national champion Tufts in a 6-5 match.  Union failed to convert in two late tying opportunities before Tufts could run out the clock.  Great season for the team, which includes some Fighting Dutchmen players.
