If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

If the Shoes game is happening, but all of the Union and RPI posters have left the boards, is it just another game?

I'd hate to think they all grew up, that would suck.  This is one place I come to regress and goof around.

Seriously, what happened to this board?

I haven't read about a 5 dollar bill being wadded up and bounced of a friendosaurus's forehead in ages.

Gro and Reg got trapped on The Grid (Tron-style).  RPI and Union have struggled.  It's lost it's luster a bit.  I mean, both teams NEED a win to stay in LL contention, and it's scary that either could win out and go to the playoffs.  But it's hard to talk smack when you aren't all that confident in your team.  I do think RPI has a decent chance to win, solely because I don't think much of Union's offense, and I don't think much of RPI's defense.  So it could be a crap shoot.

What do you think Reg?

To dlip, this is the rivalry of all rivalries, the one that dlip looks forward to annually, more so than almost anything else in sports. dlip has attended almost every Union/RPI football game since the early/mid eighties when RPI basically fielded a JV squad from the sandlot. Things may seem a bit quiet this year for the following reasons:

1.) RPI is really just a poor school located in the only place that can make Shocktwon look good, TROYLET.
2.) The ****ing Red Hawks, Red Ducks, Engineers, or whatever they are called have no self-identity except for a caluculator and high water pants:
3.) Have you seen RPI's new sports complex? Probably not unless you are a crickett.
4.) The girl to guy ratio on campus is very impressive (as long as you don't have an interest in woman)
5.) Red, well, Red Sucks and is the white trash version of Garnet!
6.) More RPI fans choose to watch their Division 1, full athletic scholarship hockey team, get embarassed week in and week out than watch a Division 3 football team with a Division 1 coach. Rumor is Seth Appert came in second for the RPI football coaching job.
7.) PA announcement: "Today's attendance is  12. We thank President jackson and her security entourage for attending the game."

...voted most ugly building in the capital region, just goes to show money doesn't buy you happiness!

All kidding around (for 30 seconds) Lew is right here. It may have lost it's luster a bit as a result of both teams struggling. Today, as a result of becoming more knowledgeable and more of an overall LL fan, dlip does root for RPI, at times, and hopes they do well for the league's sake...never for their own. ;)

Crap being the operative word, it would seem. Still, I"m obviously rooting for the Dutchmen, but I think that they will pull this one out.

Wow, a quiet week on the LL board for the Shoes game. dlip is hoping the players have more energy than we do. dlip thinks this might be a result of the game not really having "legit" playoff implications. Hobart is most likely going to win the league and get the bid because dlip does not see them losing to WPI, RPI, or U of R. Even if thunder strikes and the Pumkinheads falter (because of Halloween maybe???), Union and/or RPI would not have a shot to realistically make any noise in the tourney. Maybe the writing is on the wall? Obvioulsy, there are ECAC bids that are possible, is that motivation? Who knows? Plus, with the league being so down nationally, dlip knows, as one who grew up honestly hating, yes hating, RPI, with every bone in his body, that he now definitely roots for the Engineers against any OOC competition. dlip has gained some respect, and now has a more mature outlook towards the rivalry from developments (or lack their of)in the past couple years. Now he, the traditional RPI hater, has curbed his hate, when it comes to the football Engineers.

Either way, to dlip, this still is a big game! He will continue to talk to himself on these boards in anticipation of the battle for the Shoes on Saturday. This is a not only a battle for the bragging rights of these two schools. It is a battle between two institutions that are academically excellent, geographically so close together, and have so much history, that even with little or nothing at stake, will battle their hearts out on Saturday. Good luck to both teams this weekend. dlip is hoping for an injury free game for both sides, and of course, a Union victory. Let's bring the Shoes back to Shocktown.

You bring up an interesting point.  RPI controls their own fate in the fact that they can win out and take the LL crown.  And unless that is done in a manner that they have improved DRASTICALLY over the last 3-4 weeks, they would most likely get buried in the playoffs.  I feel like Hobart not only has a chance to win out, but could potentially be seeded high enough to win 2 games in the tournament.

I definitely would love for RPI to win out and make noise in the tournament.  But I also fear them being last year's St. Lawrence.  That might do a lot for a St. Lawrence program that has struggled for many many moons, but I think it could be detrimental to an RPI program who has seen success recently.  I really don't know what to think.  I do know that it sucks that all of the RPI LLPP brethren are old and crusty.

dlippiel

In a way it is the sad truth for both programs as of today. Neither are used to being in a position where they ever would be percieved as a SLU if they made the tourney. To feel that that perception might be closer to a reality than we like, is a tough pill to swallow for a former player like yourself and a lifelong fan like dlip. Bottom line, both teams are playing hard and bring their best to Frank bailey field on Saturday. dlip is looking forward to enjoying it.

On the Hobart side of things dlip is in total agreement with you. Bart has been dlip's LL pick since day #1 this season. dlip even went as far as to predict a definite first round win for the Pumpkinheads. dlip thinks this is a very ****ing good Hobart team, a team he is quite high on. Not just because they are an LL team but because they are a well rounded football team through and through. He feels the pumpkins will be the LL's best possible rep in the show this year by far.

mattvsmith

The Rev thinks the tough times for the LL have made us on the LLPP much more apt to cheer for each other's teams in OOC and play-offs. This is a good thing.

The Rev is also pleased with Hobart being listed #25 two weeks in a row. The Rev thinks #25 is a good place for the Statesmen--on the radar but not in the spotlight.

Obviously The Rev hopes that Hobart goes undefeated. This 8 game schedule makes it a little hairy. Hobart needs focus and discipline so that they don't underestimate WPI, RPI and UR the way SJF underestimated them.

The Rev thinks it would be great if Hobart makes it to the play-offs and sticks it to some teams/conferences that have gotten a little uppity or have always looked down on the LL.

dlip is right when he says Hobart is the LL's best representative this year. They are a solid team with a rather deep bench. The Rev is having a tough time pointing out a weakness. QB, backs and receivers are good. O-line provides excellent protection. Defense is incredible.  The Rev is honestly hoping that Hobart can make it three rounds. It's a lot to hope for, but this year's team seems to have its act together in a big way. The Rev is praying for a big upset in the play-offs--one that keeps the other boards crying for weeks about how their team, the Dingleberries, just were having an off-week, grandma was injured, the coach sprained his whistle, the offensive coordinator twisted his play-calling thumb--you know, every bullsh!t excuse except to just admit they got out played. That's all The Rev really hopes for.

More history: we may see the first modern-day snow game in this year's matchup.  Forecast looks bleak.

$10mil/year to Ryan Fitzpatrick.  The Bills are doing Theo Epstein proud.  I love it.

Halftime.

Sounds like they've turned Frank Bailey Field into the Bahamas Beach Club. I've been dancing with my shirt off in between every play.
