"How far can they go?   Hobart hasn't been tested by playoff-caliber competition this season so it's hard to tell what the ceiling is for the Statesmen."

What a disappointing cop out of a prediction ...Just pick them to lose first round so I get more fired up!

Ali Marpet, is that you again?  Or your friend of a cousin's friend from Wittenburg?

I think it was Whittenberg, actually :P

66 is actually Casey but who cares either way. Whatever helps them win Saturday.

Speaking of Marpet he ended up tied with Lefflbine for LL OPOTY. Love seeing an OL player getting love in post season awards which normally go to QBs / RBs.

As an aside, posted my IC-HC game preview at http://gohobart.blogspot.com

Also, SLU is / was playoff caliber in my opinion. This year's team could have competed with and probably beaten most E8 teams, including IC.

I played linebacker waaaay too long ago for Bart. Obviously 66 is a linebacker number! It's been my screen name since aol (I'm that old!)

ITC I love your write ups but could you change the background? It makes these old eyes water

ITH radio

ha - thx, and you're not the first person to mention that regarding the background. My plan is to change it up after this season since it's 2014 specific.

I saw St Lawrence live and I don't think they have the offensive speed to do any damage in the playoffs.  Those two safeties are fantastic though, and the lines on both sides of the ball seemed pretty big.  Some size at their WRs can give smaller defenses fits as well, but I'm not sure how much better their run game got as the season went on, but it didn't appear to be a strong point in the first game of the year (when I saw them)

I think they could beat anyone in the E8 too, but if they were in the conference would probably end up in 4th or 5th place in my opinion.

I agree re the speed. Their O was all about their basketball player type WR/TEs creating mismatches with smaller DBs/LBs. Really the playoff caliber aspect of SLU was their D and its ability to create turnovers. I didn't see the final numbers but I am guessing they were probably 20+ in TOM which is pretty awesome. CBW was a good a DL as any and kids like Dietsch and others on D are legit.

Hey, I think Ali was walking over to practice at the time of the post...couldn't be him....but I love the recall from last year though  :) I'm sure Ali was really hoping to be in the Wittenberg bracket  ;)
If , per chance, Ali is reading this...Congrats on LL co-OPY....and we want to see some  BOZ pancakes on Saturday ;D

Grats Hobart on a solid win! To pull off a win after so many turnovers takes pride on offense and a strong defensive effort. Johns Hopkins vs Hobart sounds more like a lax gam

Congratulations to the cardiac kid Statesmen on beating a well coached tough Bombers team with a QB in Dempsey that almost won the game by himself until the Hobart D dialed it up a notch.A tale of 2 halves for this Hobart - Ithaca game with Patrick Conlan going from goat with one fumble and 3 picks to hero with an inspired fourth quarter after puking on the sidelines. This team has HEART and is ready to take on JHU , especially when the D3 experts pick them as "disappointments" again this week. Observations
   - As far as LL vs. E8, Hobart winning today settles the comparison of the top teams, but St. Lawrence was as good as Ithaca(based on actual comparison) and I wish they had agreed to an ECAC bid and played Fisher as I think SLU would have beaten the team that played West Conn yesterday. Also RPI showed very well against Framingham . The LL may not be as deep as the E8, but it is better than it gets credit for.
  - excellent adjustment by Dewall and executed by Conlan in second half  to not force throws into a solid DB core of Ithaca but tuck it and run as Patrick has good run skills. Playing against top DBs at SLU and Ithaca has been invaluable experience for the next round.
- The Hobart Defense will keep them in every game . They dug in when the Offense kept shooting themselves in the foot and did not complain, but did their job.. We will miss Tyre and the seniors whenever the run is over...they never gave up this year...
- Imagine the score against JHU with no turnovers ....I think when Conlan puked on the sidelines it cleansed him of the turnover bug :-*
If game is confirmed to be played in Geneva it will be another great game and I see Hobart winning 35- 28 with Hobart Offense getting back on track and the Defense making plays when it counts against the best offense they have seen so far this year.

Nice surge by the right side of the OLINE for the score, Marpet blocked Bomber LB into O'Dell's pond. If they did not make the TD, was there time to call timeout for FG??...timing was close. Also, sat with a few people who thought Hobart did not score right away on first and second downs on purpose to run down clock and make sure Dempsey did not have time to retaliate...a question for Conlan...if he was trying to stay out on those sneaks on first and second downs, he is a very good actor..

DeAndre Smith led the way. Great kid and 3 yr starter. Doesn't get as much press at Marpet  (interesting rumors going on TE him and some  all star game / scouting stuff) but he's been a big reason for Hobart's success running the ball these past few seasons.

I think the key to Hobart is how their QB plays.  If he is on, the offense can do a hell of a lot, if he makes mistakes, you saw what can happen.

Their secondary is also obviously their weakness, and might be their downfall against teams with veteran quarterbacks like Callahan at Wesley.  Ithaca is a play action team, and that gets them sacked and hurried against great defenses like Hobarts, although they did have some success early.

I have no clue what kind if offense or defense JHU plays, but I hope I get the chance to watch the game.
