I think RPI may surprise the LL this year, but the WPI game should be a good test.

I'll be up there for this game so we shall see how that one goes. Go Engineers!!
Good luck.....assume you mean the Rensselaer Engineers...

It was a tough week for Liberty League teams with only RPI getting a win. This week's schedule is just as tough. What happened to scheduling early season "cupcakes"? While Hobart, Ithaca, RPI and Rochester will have their hands full, can we expect Ws from Union and St. Lawrence? Maybe some surprises? Last year the Dutchman lost their opener to Ithaca in a close, it could'a gone either way, game. They rebounded to defeat W. Conn 28-13 week two. This year I'm looking for a similar rebound and predict a Union victory. Let's stay with 28-13. In looking at Union's two deep for this week and surprisingly there are NO changes. Either they had no injuries, no reassessment of personnel or more likely they just didn't update. I'm hoping coach Behrman liked what he saw last week and just has confidence in what he's putting on the field.  I think "U" gets it going this week and may well be a factor in the Liberty League. Good luck to all LL teams. GO U !!!

As a new fan to the Liberty League (and Hobart specifically), I was closely watching line play at  the Hobart-Brockport game last weekend.  It looks like Hobart is starting a Freshman at offensive guard.  It is incredibly difficult to learn an intricate collegiate level offensive line scheme in 2 weeks of preseason camp.  I am sure as the season rolls on, the O-lone will begin to gel, but I foresee many bumps along the way for this young line.  From a defensive perspective,  it looked like the Hobart front seven were surprised by  the QB option play, and the very quick Brockport QB took advantage.  The D-Ends also took inside rushing routes on several plays and were pulled inside, opening up the outside for the QB to scramble or rush the outside corner.  I am really looking forward to the upcoming games, as I am sure the skill positions will really begin to shine as the line play matures.

Welcome to the D3boards 79. It's great to have another Offensive Lineman aboard. And Olorin: As for Union's two deep...most teams release a program type "Game Notes" in the days before an upcoming game. You'll often find it on their school football homepage which is linked from D3football.com team page. Look for the "Link to Official Site"on the right. (Pat does an incredible job with this)

In "Game Notes" you'll usually find information like the "Two Deep".   In Union's case my comment was that either Union had no injuries with no lineup changes or it hadn't been updated. In looking again it's been updated but no changes(maybe because there didn't need to be?) In the past (albeit with the previous coaching staff) injuries that would keep a player out of a game were not publicized. You would only know about them by looking at the upcoming Two Deep....https://www.unionathletics.com/documents/2017/9/6//Game_2_Notes_2017.pdf?id=7686

Oline 79 +K for contribution to this board and for the LL/ Hobart encouragement. Totally agree with your comments as Statesmen Oline reforms after graduating Testani at Center from last year. Helm is new to Center position but I'm sure he will progress and learn from last week as the line improves. Hobart  started a First Year  guard, Lanzana last week and even a D3 game pace/hitting is a bit of a shock from HS plus learning the assignments and your teammates strengths/weaknesses let alone scout the competition ...79,I hope your optimism proves out and Hobart sees improvement in the Oline and Front 7 on defense(although my big worry is the DB core) ...and our coaches make the right calls and we keep our cool ...hopefully our skill players will shine today and Shane will reverse his TD/INT ratio from last week.....A great day for Football....bring on the Cardinals....Protect the BOZ!   Good luck to the rest of the LL today!

Not surprised. You can't go switching guys out this early. Teams take time to gel, get used to each other. If it continues, sure. But it's one week

I posted up a Fisher-Hobart preview at the gohobart.blogspot.com site. Curious to what you all may think.

Also, any thoughts, suggestions, feedback on the new ITH video format?
I've been waiting for the podcast to show up in my podcast app until I realized it wouldn't be showing up with the new video and found you on facebook. I'm not one to watch a video and much prefer audio (listening now in a different tab). Is there any possibility of ripping just the audio and keeping that in the traditional podcast format while having video available on Facebook for those who prefer that?

Short answer is yes -- that's the intention.  We ran into some issues this week and will eventually put the show for this week up as an audio podcast, along with the Week 2 show.  Thanks for your interest!

Great win for Union today. Dlip is very proud of his beloved Dutchmen!

Also +k to the very knowledgeable and apparently magical UfanBill who correctly predicted the exact score of 28-13 in favor of the U. UfanBill works ****ing magic on these boards! Just another example of it!

A decent week for the LL . Union(1-1) gets a solid "feel good" win(hooray for dlip and his friends), RPI(2-0) looks like a prime contender, SLU (1-1) needs improvement,  Ithaca (0-2) should be happy they are in the LL where these losses are now OOC,Rochester (0-1) looks like they will have a hard time getting a win and Hobart(1-1) MAY have found a defense today,as they had an impressive bounce back win. Can't wait for LL league contests, especially Hobart's ,starting with trip to Butterfield  on 9/30.

Congrats to Hobart, SLU, and RPI for their W's yesterday. Ithaca will sort it out. Coaching transitions can take time, plus they have played two very good teams.

Full Ithaca thoughts:

Look, 0-2 is 0-2, and it's never good to be 0-2. But let's focus on some positives:

1. They moved the ball better with Nabi in the game. Yes, they did not score. But, they had three deep drives of 50+ yards in the second half. Eventually, those are going to turn into points. If the switch is permanent, the bye week is coming at a perfect time, as he gets an extra week to prepare for another tough defense.

2. You really couldn't ask for a tougher opener. Both Alfred and Brockport are ranked—though we still don't know a lot about the Saxons—and they could very well be the two best teams in the E8. The next two weeks don't exactly get easier, but eventually, it's going to ease up and there are going to be some winnable games.

As Dlip says, full transitions aren't easy. The Bombers lost these two games last season as well, it's worth pointing out.
