D3MAFAN,

I know , I know what you say may be true.......but when you don't get to dance the music sux.....the silly bowls are meaningless...I feel better now

Kinda surprised you feel that way.  I am sure there are a bunch of seniors out there that feel otherwise and are happy to get a shot at one last game before hanging up their cleats, especially against another non-conference team.

I think this is often stated, but I'm not sure it's 100% true. I remember hearing rumors and grumblings that IC's 1999 team wasn't super pumped about their ECAC game, mainly because they were 7-1 before losing a pair of heartbreakers to miss the playoffs, including blowing a 21-7 lead to lose Cortaca.

But even if that weren't true, I don't think fans need to, or should be expected to, feel the same way about games that players do.

Oline79,
I am wishing everyone luck in the playoffs....RPI, Union, Ithaca...but it is killing me that this team couldn't close the deal in a couple of games this year...it is like your kid comes home with B s when you know they are capable of A s....now I know this team collectively is not the 2012-2014 group especially on the defensive side of the ball, but this team had some special pieces and was deep enough to be playing this weekend....I hope that we pull it back  together for next year because the current LL is a very tough league and undefeated seasons will be very rare ..... I will move on .....but the disappointment is there for now

Bartman,
What is the history with Hobart and the ECAC's?  I would have loved to see this team play one of the NJAC teams, or even Muhlenberg.  I have watched Centennial League football for years, and I am convinced that the LL and E8 football is a step above.  It would have been nice to see it on the field.
The last time Hobart played in an ECAC game was 2003 against Norwich and the Statesmen won 34-18 and finished the year 6-4. Since then , they have made the NCAAs 10 out of the next 14 years(no interest in the ECACs in the 4 non qualifying years)...I agree that I would like to see this year's team play one more game, but frankly , Sweeney was out for the last game and I am not sure how the team would feel about playing one more ....there is a mindset of NCAAs or bust, although I think they would have played in the NYS Bowl..if they had qualified...

I think teams whom are rebuilding relish the ECACs as chance to validate the program's effort and improvement and see it as a postseason starting point. "ECACs now, next year NCAAs" . When excitement is anew in a program. Teams who are at the top already and consistent NCAA participants tend to view the ECACs with contempt and a sign of failure (and also sometimes are sour grapes about it) and feel the ECACs are beneath them.

Speaking for what Alfred has experienced of late, the Saxons, Pep believes, looks at a post-season game as a "bonus" for a job well done...whether it be NCAAs (optimum) or ECACs (still a privilege). Do the seniors on the squad want to don the pads one last time? Heck yeah! Do the underclassmen want to have another opportunity to prove their mettle? Sure thing!

Saxons have seen post-season action in 13 of their past 14 seasons with three of those seasons being the NCAA Tournament.

Pep is thinking this Sunday's game with Stevenson will be particularly special as it will be the first overnight trip for the Saxons this season!

Hobart will not participate in ECACs for financial and other reasons (they can't in all sports so they won't allow FB to do so). Been a stance they've had even with all the recent playoff runs. Just how it goes.

First, dlip wants to congratulate RPI on their big SHOES win today over Union. Congrats on winning the LL title and dlip will be rooting for you big time come next week whomever you play.

As far as the game today here are dlip's thoughts. RPI deserved to win. They came out strong and it showed with their domination of the first quarter. dlip gives his Garnet a ton of credit for battling back and taking a 14-13 lead into half time. The second half belonged to the Engineer defense who time and again forced Union into three and outs. The Dutchmen could not get anything going with a one point lead after having many opportunities on offense. RPI stuffed the run today and really won the battle of the line of scrimmage throughout. The Dutchmen needed to throw the ball more early in the second half and it just didn't happen. dlip gets and loves the fact that U in a run first team but they just couldn't generate yardage on the ground today. All the credit to RPI's defense. Those kids played their asses off today and won the title for RPI.

This last part may sound like bitter grapes but if you know dlip it's not. At the conclusion of the game you had about 20 RPI students run onto the field like ****ing 5 year olds and jab at the Union players as the team shook hands. ****ing classless by a group of kids who "looked" like a bunch of rich spoiled brats who had no idea what the players on both sidelines just left all out on the field. Tons of credit to the many RPI kids whom dlip witnessed that did not jump onto the field and waited until both teams had shaken hands and separated. There is a line, yes even for excited, possible drunken college kids when it comes to sports. Union students learned what that line is decades ago against Rochester and these idiots hopefully will learn a lesson of some kind. Mark dlip's words he'd be just as disappointed if it was Union students who acted in this manner. Also, hats off to Union AD John McClaughlin for maintaining his composure while getting these ****ing clowns off the field. Ok rant over.

Go get'um next week RPI dlip believes you are the best team in the LL this season and is pulling for you! By the way that freshmen QB is going to be nasty for the next three years. What composure for a freshmen.

Dlip, it's time to get over yourself. There was a small contingent of RPI students that hopped the fence and ran onto the field. RPI just beat a hated rival in a great game for the 5th straight year and earned a playoff birth for the first time in over a decade. They were excited and it was awesome. Mind you, there were plenty of Union fans running their mouths the entire game on the hill where the RPI fans were. This is part of this rivalry. It always has been and it always will be.

I know in your unrealistic world, everyone would hug(like the Union player with his long uncomfortable tear-filled embrace with what I assume was his mom after the game) and sing with each other, but that is just not realistic and would flat out ruin the rivalry. I'm pretty sure if Union won, there would have been plenty of words exchanged in the opposite manner and i'm more than certain you would say that they are all just wonderful young men and women because they attend Union College rather than classless, spoiled brats who's parents love really large UNION stickers on their Volvos. Seriously, why does Union sell fat-head sized stickers for cars. Made me want to drive myself into a guard rail while driving up 87. But then I wouldn't have been able to witness the event that has your feelings so hurt and that would have made me sad.

Get over it. Union had a good season. They now have a good coach. I was impressed with how well they played, how hard they played and how quickly the program has turned around. Personally, I say bring Audino and Frank back. I liked when Union was a doormat and pathetic. But this success is good for the league, and it's great for the rivalry. So I guess i'm on board....kinda...

PS - As a Superfan, you should learn your AD's name. George O'Loughlin would be upset with being called John McClaughlin.

Yeah calling a bunch of over excited division 3 football fans classless rich spoiled brats is really classy. I'm sure everyone at Cortaca Saturday sang praises about their opponents.

Remember when these boards used to be fun?  This place is dead anyway...
