Dlip you took the high road on this, kudos.
Its funny that 99% of the E8 posters have respectful banter.
We dont always agree but for the most part we get along.....Then out of the shadows.......

Mach out?

You sound like a frickin Jim Rome clone.
Um...the 90s called and wants its catch phrase back.

I've always gotten along with everyone here for a very long time, with the exception of Frank, for good reason. Life got in the way and I took a hiatus. There has been no RPI representation on these boards since I left and I felt the need to right the ship on Dlip's comments because, let's face it, they are ridiculous and just whiny BS poking at a team because they just beat you on your field. I'm pretty sure no Fisher fans ever acted like college students during a huge game, right? Thought so. Personally, I don't think Dlip 'took the high road', I think he understood my point and I hope that is the case.

Dlip's comments are what is wrong with the world. Everyone gets offended about everything. The 'Weinstein and Spacey went to Union', etc signs at the game last Saturday were brilliant and hilarious and i'm sure most Union fans got a good laugh out of them because it's part of the game, part of the rivalry, and part of the fun. I'm surprised some whiny fan didn't come here crying about it though calling them rich, spoiled, classless brats. Those whiners probably just went to Twitter instead because...ya know...feelings.... Sometimes I wonder why we even play the game or keep score any more because someone's feelings always get hurt, and we all know that is wrong.

Im the last one to worry about political correctness trust me.
Im also no millennial that has feelings that are going to be hurt or am going to pout because i didnt get a participation trophy, but I will agree with Dlip that there is an implied air of decorum at certain times of the game.
During the national anthem, when a player is injured, when the teams are shaking hands, those are the times that fans need to "act like they have been there".  Yes - enjoy yourself!  be excited that your team won, but have a tinge of class doing it.....

Well, just to let you know...The 'allegations' just flat out didn't happen as described. Fans celebrated with their own team's players. Period. It's sour grapes. If there was any jawing, it was running both ways and it was after hand shakes. I didn't see it and I just don't think it happened. If so, there was probably one kid acting a fool and that got spun the way it did. And there was plenty going on the other side of the gates and wasn't generated from the winning side. It is what it is. Most of us have grown to accept it in the RPI/UNION rivalry, particularly when both teams are good, which they were this year.

fisheralum91

My only source on this was Dlip, and he hasnt given any reason to doubt him.
He spoke of what he saw and reacted in kind.
I respect that.

Look we are all homers for our teams.
Me absolutely no exception.

Most of us are older with kids attending our alma maters or god forbid the arch rivals.

I think that cooler heads prevail with age, and I too would have been a little miffed it what transpired at the shoes game went down the way it was reported by dlip

First, let dlip say that he did take some of Mach's perspective to reflect on his interpretation of what happened and as a result as he feels it that he and Mach just disagree about the appropriateness of what transpired. It's also really not that big of a ****ing deal to be honest. dlip still believes that the behavior he witnessed was inappropriate and not a great choice by those who were involved. If one runs on the field with pure excitement for the victory in the heat of the moment that's one thing. However to climb over the fence and direct **** at the opposition who just lost (in their face 5-10 yards from them shaking hands on the field of play), that, to dlip, is immature horse **** and not appropriate. With that being said he certainly respects Mach's opinion that that level of jabbing and celebration goes along with a rivalry of this magnitude. dlip thinks that **** is great from the stands/hill/etc. He detests the PC crap in our world and bets he and Mach would enjoy a beverage together bsing about that.

Also, he feels the "rich kid" comment/reference was not really a fair one. Maybe behavior that fits one who feels "entiteled" would have been a more appropriate way to describe what he saw. To dlip, anyone who feels like they can just do anything they want, including run on to a visiting field of play after a great game like that with no regard for rules is acting entitled.

The one thing dlip wants to be clear about, (whether or not Mach sees this doesn't matter to dlip) is that there was certainly no bitterness in his post about the loss. Honestly, dlip was/is happy for RPI and feels they were/are the better team and the best team to represent the league. dlip has mentioned this before and also has been vocal on here about his like of Coach I and RPI's new Frosh QB who happens to be a local kid. dlip will be watching from NJ on Saturday (he believes Wesley streams video) along with the Union game and hoping RPI knocks Wesley on their ass.

Welcome Mach, or welcome back (maybe you are gro or lew). Again, dlip does appreciate your perspective and something good did come out of it.

Get over it. Union had a good season. They now have a good coach. I was impressed with how well they played, how hard they played and how quickly the program has turned around. Personally, I say bring Audino and Frank back. I liked when Union was a doormat and pathetic. But this success is good for the league, and it's great for the rivalry. So I guess i'm on board....kinda...

PS - As a Superfan, you should learn your AD's name. George O'Loughlin would be upset with being called John McClaughlin.

Machiavelli....OUT!

OK, let's just begin with the AD...The Union Athletic Director is Jim McLaughlin, Union'93, who was an All American offensive tackle for Union under coach John Audino...whoever George O'Loughlin is is irrelevant but Dlip got the name closer than you did Mach.
I watched the game from the same area as Dlip and really had no problem with the celebration by RPI, whether it was students or the annually present supportive ex-players contingent. I didn't see anything unusual but if Dlip did maybe I missed it. RPI did what they had to do to win the game... Union didn't. Good luck to the Engineers at Wesley. I think they may surprise many people and if they win, celebrate away.

And I thought the SLU-Clarkson rivalry was heated....

This is kind of like the soccer board versus Amherst.  You want classless?  Just take a look at Amherst soccer... A few kids running onto the field and jawing is nothing compared to what those guys do lol.

Yikes...Dude... UFanBill scores a -130 on the sarcasm meter...

On a non-sarcastic tip, it would have been very easy for you to gang up about what you saw/didn't see, but I really appreciate the honesty.

FYI - Wesley scares the crap out of me. I think RPI needs to come out and hit, hit and keep hitting. Otherwise, i'd guess the size and speed of Wesley will overwhelm them. If RPI can manage to put a sense of scare and alligator arms into the mix, they might set a tone and be able to dictate the flow of the game. If Wesley comes out flying and gets a 2 score lead early, look out.

Well Machiavelli or as Dlip points out Lew Dogg or 'gro...whatever...thanks for the complement (I think). As for my ability to recognize sarcasm, you have decided not to post using your previous handle so how am I supposed to know whether you are serious or just ignorant. There's been a lot of ignorance and "fake news" going around lately.  I should have gotten a clue from your new name...Machiavellianism is "the employment of cunning and duplicity in statecraft or in general conduct". Welcome back, oh cunning one. Why are you hiding?

Per the google machine, or the many leather bound books in my library, 'Machiavelli was an Italian war strategist and philosopher who wrote about faking his death to fool his enemies.' It's science.

Mach, Wesley scares the ****ing **** out of all of us to be honest...or at least they should with what they have accomplished and the fact that to some they spent some time in that very small top tier of DIII programs. With that being said dlip thinks the Engineers may surprise some on Saturday. dlip has been very impressed with RPI since Marinoplolous took over and really believes that the team really came together once he started getting the snaps. On Saturday dlip was so impressed with the calmness/poise he showed throughout the game. He's a gamer and if the Shoes game didn't rattle him then dlip thinks that an NCAA game won't either.

To dlip, for RPI to be successful they are going to need to really step up on D and frustrate Wesley and force them into turnovers. Hopefully RPI can bottle up the Wolverines run game and force the Wolverines into the air enough where they begin to make mistakes. dlip also feels that the RPI O will need to run the football with enough success to keep the Wesley D honest and open up the short passing game for the Engineers. dlip believes this game is winnable for RPI and is really excited to see them compete against such a high caliber opponent like Wesley.

Win or lose it has been a great season for RPI and like dlip said before, they are the right team to be representing the LL this year. Best of luck man!

dlip is also really looking forward to the IC/Salisbury match-up. dlip wishes they could play this game on grass (for the Bombers sake lol) but dlip feels this years Bombers D has been stout and showed the ability to take over a game. dlip believes the Bombers also have a decent history (correct him if he is wrong) against the triple option. If IC can stuff the run and force the Gulls into moving away from their game plan IC will win. The weapons on the offensive side of the ball for IC has really matured as the year has progressed and even thought they face a much improved Salisbury D they still should be able to put up some points if given the chance.

FWIW, when IC played this game at Salisbury, here were the Gulls' offensive production:

2011: 21. Only Wesley and Whitewater held Salisbury to fewer
2013: 23, but just 17 in regulation

I know, different players and for Ithaca, staffs. But IC's success against the triple option isn't only about the grass. It's just like, 64% of it ;)
