Now I'm thinking of a way to make compounding penalties is if the coach or players keep yapping after the refs tell them to stop?

Ref:  "Ok coach, that last play was a 15 yard penalty, we are moving the ball up 15 yards..."

Coach 1:  "Hey ref, go f#$* yourself"

Ref:  "Ok, thats another 15 yards."

Coach 2:  "Go stick 15 yards up your a$$!"

Ref:  "These 15 yards are going to really hurt if you don't stop"

Coach 3:  "That's what your mom said!!"

Ref:  "15 more yards", now we are going to kick off from the 10 and let the other team be able to recover it within the 10 yards"

Or something like that?

I don't know the rule book, but wouldn't a competent ref just eject the coach (and call security, if needed)?

Kicking off from the opponent's 10 has just got to be something new in the history of football! :o ;)

Ok, I edited that for you.

When you think about this many unsportsmanlike to one team from one incident....I wonder if they contemplated forfeiture of the game? I mean , I never saw this many on one play, so either the ref was too aggressive or the "acts" were really f#$%ing  distasteful

It took 10+ minutes to sort it out. When Salisbury lined up to kick from the 10, I was trying to do the math in my head. They marched off 4 x 15, a total of 60 yards. Since Ithaca had to line up 10 yards away they were all in the endzone. A kick that went the required 10 yards would be a touchback so Salisbury then tried to take a delay of game penalty to give themselves more room. Ithaca saw through that and declined the penalty The actual kick was a little roller that didn't even go the ten yards. By rule Ithaca got the ball where it stopped at the two so that worked out for Salisbury. The Bombers were able to get a couple of first downs so they were able to overcome the poor field position.

Ute's since you clearly feel the need to read and comment sarcastically on a number of my posts, I'm surprised you didn't read this one. On Saturday after watching the NYS bowl, my interest turned to the Ithaca/ Salisbury game. I watched in amazement and disbelief while this sequence of events unfolded. I believe my description SHOULD HAVE answered your questions.

I apologize, this game was being discussed on 3 different boards and I must have missed your post.  Thank you.

It seems to me that the kicking team should have accepted 3/4 of the penalties and declined the last one (any penalty can be declined according to rule 2-27-12), that would have put the ball on the 20.  Now there is plenty of room for an onsides kick.  Taking the ball down to the 10, the best option was to tap the ball and let it fall dead.  Strangest play ever!

That sounds like a viable option.  It was so unusual that the coaches probably weren't 100% up on what was going on.  Hindsight, right?

Man that was some seriously crazy **** that went on in Delaware. Honestly dlip is just so pumped the Bombers took the game over and came out with the win. dlip would have ****ing loved to have been there. He would have dressed up as a ****ing Bomber (whatever that looks like) with a dead bloody seagull on a noose and started running around the stands going ape ****...actually he would never do that but it would be funny...by the way happy Thanksgiving to both Seagull and Bombers fans.

The 10 yard line kick was not the only unusual play involving LL teams on Saturday. In case you didn't see this as a D3football plays of the week nominee, here is the blocked field goal/touchdown play from the NYS Bowl that I described as a "fluke". Maybe not a fluke but certainly rare. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xan6P9UHh6Y  Union LL 1st team linebacker Jack Reilly penetrates the line to get a hand on the kick and it deflects off the shoulder of LB Jake Lombardo into the hands of Cortland lineman Devin Smith who alertly bulls his way into the endzone. As it happened quickly it was unclear exactly what transpired but the ref to the right immediately signals TD. A bad break for the Dutchmen but Union rallied from down 21 to actually have a last minute possession with a chance to tie before Cortland intercepted a desperate last pass play.

I'd call that a fluke.

This however, was a game changer (I would never call a play like this a fluke or the difference in the game as it seems like sour grapes), but here it is:

Classic.

Bombers798891

Regardless of what Salisbury should have done, on the kickoff, they blew the game on the ensuing drive. RPI broke Ithaca when they pinned them deep repeatedly and forced the Bombers to defend short fields. Salisbury could have done the same and failed to.

Anyway, I'm on to next season. This year provided a lot of hope for next season. But I'm actually most interested to see next year's freshman roster. Here were the hiring dates of Swanstrom and his staff:

Swanstrom: Dec 12
Toerper: Feb 21
Bucci: April 11
Petty: April 13
Reeder: May
Trahan: Mid-June

Not to go all Charlie Weis, but now that they'll have a full year to recruit, I'm pumped.

This isn't to say, of course, that the players Mike Welch had recruited for this year were not helpful. But, the schemes were different, and every staff has personal preferences. More to the point, I'm interested in potential changes we'll see, especially geographically.

I also want to comment on the D3 Play of the Week. Frostburg's fake punt late in the game "sealed the deal" in their upset win vs. Wittenberg. A play labeled " Gutsy...just gutsy". It was a risky call because if it failed Wittenburg would have had a short field down only 21-7 with 7 minutes remaining.

It brings to mind the "gutsiest" play I remember from some years back and Bartman maybe you remember this. Hobart at Union. As I recall under 2 minutes left Hobart 4th and 12 from it's own 2 yard line. Hobart lead by, I think, 5 points. Union calls time out to conserve clock thinking they will have a short field with a chance to win the game. Then it happened...coach Cragg calls for a fake punt and a flatfooted Union team gives up a first down. Hobart then runs out the clock for the win. WHAT??? you might say... a fake punt from the 2 leading the game! As it turned out it was brilliant. Coach Cragg obviously thought, give Union a short field we lose. We must keep possession to win the game. It brings to mind the Herm Edwards quote..."you play to win the game"!

Yeah, that was in 2004. I wrote about it on the CA blog in the summer of 16. It was my #3 best game of the last 20 years for Hobart:

Ufan,
I remember the play but thanks to ITH, I checked the game play by play for exact details....12 minutes left 4th and Long from the one and Hobart behind 27-24, Riverboat Gambler Cragg calls a fake punt and Dan Suozzi(punter, punt returner and top WR) runs it for a first down....Hobart goes on and kicks a field goal on that drive  to tie the game and win in OT...much better result than this year's game...I don't know anyone that would have called a fake punt at that point  in the game from the ONE ...it ended up being pure genius...he called the same play last year in the Mount Union game with Rio Schmidt but it was from mid field....same result and almost made a difference in the game .....Cragg has large spheres, for sure
