Bombers/Dlip, what teams do you think would be willing to compete against the LL teams?  It seems most of Hobart's OOC games have been against teams with some sort of connection to the program (head coaches that were former Hobart coaches).  Other than Thomas More (who is travelling up to St Law) I don't know of any independents who are trying to fill a schedule.  It was clear that when ECFC teams needed to fill a void, they wanted no part of the LL.  Maybe a team from the NJAC (Wesley, Frosty?) would welcome the competition?  The CCC doesn't have many members, but I don't know if they would want to take on ITH/Union/RPI/Hobart

I have no idea. That stuff is above my pay grade and reserved for people who know a lot more about this stuff than I do. I know St. Vincent jumped in this year.

I'm talking more just abstract personal preference than any sort of "This is a reasonable expectation" type argument.

Well shiat Oline since you asked...dlip would be love to see some teams from the north and west come to Shocktown and for Union to visit. Maybe some teams form the OAC or HCAC (Heidelburg or Franklin)? Dlip just thinks it would be great for the region to face off against more distant and unfamiliar OOC opponents.

Wesley and Salisbury are looking for early season games over the next several seasons and are advertising it.

Others will be as well. The departure of Southern Virginia and Frostburg State from the NJAC means they'll need three non-conference games.

Utah dlip loved when Union played Salisbury and would certainly welcome that again and of course Wesley. dlip loves seeing his Dutchmen play high quality opponents (as well as new opponents). Wesley would be great for Union IDHO. Being exposed to such a high level of play would be great for the Dutch players.

This question must have been answered earlier, but why can't Hobart entice Union to switch 10/6 game and play on 9/29 Homecoming since it is an open date for both,  maybe Union wants the extra week to prepare for the BIG GAME??

Bartman don't put this on the Dutchmen...ITH radio spoke of this 3 days ago. According to him Union offered to play on 9/29 but due to "travel restrictions" which I interpreted as a lack of hotel space, 10/6 was settled upon. Seems ludicrous to me.

It's a combination of factors. The 10/6 is a day game that's a drive in and out for Union. Other events on homecoming would have forced union to do an overnight type of deal, they wouldn't be able to stay near hws bc all the hotels are sold out and overall vastly increasing the travel cost which I'm sure Hobart didn't have the budget nor interest in covering.

If Vincent was still President I doubt this would have happened, ie, he would have figured something out but it didn't pan out. It sucks for the seniors especially, but Coach Behrman did say Union looked into ways to make the game happen, but as Pat often says, it takes two to schedule. Clearly both sides had interest but couldn't meet in the middle somehow.

Curious:  Why would homecoming have anything to do with Union/Hobart being an overnight trip or not.  Is this usually an overnight trip?

Just a guess, but night game rather than day game?

ITH radio

Yep - night game has usually been a 7pm Kickoff based on other events of the wkd

I guess I still don't get it.  Why not just have a Day game?  Football games are usually the #1 events for homecoming  and they aren't going to try to have one during the day because of why?

I have thought the same thing regarding the Hobart Homecoming game, why not just make it a day game?  Or find a hotel between Union and Hobart?  It is about a 2 1/2- 3 hour ride between the two.  ITH, I am sure has it right, between an interim college president and an interim AD, it must be tough to get these sort of decisions pushed through

I'm guessing the plans that they already have (football game on 10/6) were too involved that changing it would have just been a burden.  Why change that if you aren't even sure you can get a game to replace it.

I also was unaware that teams would stay overnight after a night game.  I figured you just go right home after the game and get to bed by 1am.

At the end of the day, even though the coaches wanted and did everything they could to make something to happen, no other program was willing to take the date for a number of reasons. HWS leadership obviously didn't view it as a big priority either as far as Homecoming / Parents Weekend goes. I'm sure they looked at it as a HWS decision, where there are 2100 or so non-football playing kids and focused on that part of the equation. While it is a break from recent tradition, they're just going to stick with this plan:

Hey, at least they are offering the Hobart/SJF JV game Sunday at 1pm. Grab a bagel and lox and head on over. It will be the only iteration of this matchup this season.
