Unfortunately we had another FR who I believe was Tyre Coleman/Devin Worthington (is personally throw Jeff Sanders/Ryan aruck/Jeff Hager from the 7-08 era in there as well though Hobart get next to no national recognition in the 2000s) from miama named CJ calero that I understand blew out his knee and football career about a week or so ago in a non contact injury.

Have also had a number of kids transfer or quit and lost two starting OL to injuries (Koch and Elijah Weiss).  Went from cautiously optimistic to realizing we are super thin at certain positions.  Also lost jedh downey, Marco king, Jake spreckman and AJ MCFarlane.  Not worried about the O as long as Harvey can get back to 100%, he's a stud and we have very capable WRs, TEs and still a lot of talent at OL.  Reality is Sweeney/Shed was no better than any 2000s combo, less effective than any QB/WR combo in the 2000s until the Doyle/Vella years in 2017.  Easy enough to just compare the stats between seasons by I watched it all too.   I blame Drach for a myopic love of airing it out and recruiting a different type.  Put a ton of pressure on the D with all the 3 and outs trying to throw all the time.  Even super thin on the roster and replacing those two I still think the O will be more effective in stringing drives together and providing more time for the D.  Just a matter of how fast kevin can get  the program back the way he wants it and how far up the curve Aaron backhaus has gotten with a year under his belt as DC.  Smart great guy I played with, I have confidence Aaron will become an awesome coordinator the way Kevin and scott Yoder did over time.

What's this all mean?  Probably a lot of stumbles and learning early on.  With some health god willing we can be in the mix to the end and play with anyone, there's still a high degree of talent there.  But likely to looks something like 2015 and the 2009-2010 Years Which we're makeover seasons for the program.

My uneducated opinion on top available FR:

Mike Zaccone
Dalton Kindt
Aguilar and Diaz from oceanside
DeJohn King
Dave Krewson (it Hoffman struggles we may see him in first half of season)
Ludner Mercy
Naj Johnson

Seems like a lot but that's out of like 50 kids. Not disregarding th rest and have limited inside info these days, they're all part of our family and hope they all graduate w 4.0s, happy and adjusted with great field success, just pointing out the names I have in my mind (other than Calero)

Kinda funny that Brockport has 1 great season and all of a sudden we get the 'Brockport should win vs Hobart very comfortably' posts. It's been a decade and a half since Brockport has put together back to back 'great' seasons. Hobart, on the other hand had a 'down' year last year at 7-3. They are the model of consistency.

That said, I was definitely on the Brockport bandwagon last year, and I think they could very well be loaded again this year. But i'm not prepared to say they are going to win comfortably or blow out Hobart. They certainly could, but these are the types of games where Hobart tends to surprise people. Hobart has had more than 3 losses 3 times in the last 20 years. That means nothing right now for this season, but let's not discount them quite yet. Lastly, Brockport might finish the year blowing the doors off everyone, but in week 1, as we all know, anything can happen.

Brockport should win vs Hobart very comfortably. I will go 41-13 Brockport. They are home and simply way more talented. Hobart will struggle to do anything on offense against the Brockport D. The D is absolutely loaded with starters returning and a few impact transfers and newcomers will make this unit very deep as well. When Brockport has the ball you will have to pick your poison. Crowd the receivers and you will be burned deep. Sit in a 2 deep and they will run all over you. They also have 2 really good rb on the depth chart behind Morrison this year. Last year was a huge drop off when he came out of the game. Maybe I am wrong and Hobart can hang but I just don't see it.
bports,
You are probably right based on last years result and returning starters for each team. But with 86 degrees and Thunderstorms forecasted, I am counting on some lightning bolts to inspire the Statesmen as the Brockport team cramps up in the heat....and that the overconfidence bug bites the Golden Eagles. The Statesmen are in great shape for the conditions under new HC Dewall. With these factors , I think the upset is a strong possibility ;)

Hey Bartman, looks the forecast has changed for the better. It's going to be hot and sunny with no chance for thunderstorms or lightning (OK 10 %). So Hobart's inspiration may have to be found elsewhere. Now the heat is a different factor, both teams will have to deal with it. The better conditioned team will obviously have an advantage.  Remember "It's always SUNY in Brockport". You can clap back if the forecast changes in your favor. :)

Yes, but, no one is saying Hobart's going to be bad this season. Just that this game doesn't look great for them. Brockport has a more talented roster, and they're at home. Hobart has to replace the Sweeney/Shed combo. I actually think Hobart's got an excellent shot at the Pool A, especially getting IC at home. But I'd rather play them Week 1 than Week 8

Tend to agree.  Brockport is plenty talented, and had an amazing run, but that kind of magic is hard to sustain - especially when it comes out of nowhere. All that suggests to me Brockport overachieved last year, and that hard to replicate. I think they'll handle Hobart, but it will be a game. Also think BP is good for one boner losss this year. It's the way of the world.

In other news, love all the speculation about impact freshman.  I'll bet on two for Union: Ike Irabor, a speedy RB, and Andre Ross Jr., a taller WR in the Shed mold.  (Also, Andre Ross Jr. is a dope name. Just sayin'.). Though they won't have much impact if the U can't upgrade their O-line from the leaky sieve that I understand showed up to the Utica scrimmage. All in, I predict a 4-5 year for Dutchmen.  They'll be a legit LL contender next year, but some key gaps will hold them back this year.

Watch out for Jacob Cooney  Bomber freshman WR. I was extremely impressed with his play at the scrimmage.

This will most definitely be big ? for the U. This team's success will depend mostly on the progression and effectiveness of the O-line. dlip is hoping for growth throughout the season and sees the U improving as the season goes on.

Viewer, I have decided we don't need any lightning or thunder, we have it in football form with Dakota Harvey. I am hoping the boys  play their hearts out against such a mighty foe as the Golden Eagles.....many talented skill players on offense and if the re-formed offensive line performs well, the very comfortable win forecast by bports may happen. However, I think the Hobart offense will surprise on Saturday with some nice ball control and keep the Brockport offense on the sidelines for long periods and maybe a key turnover by Bport. Kevin DeWall will be well prepared for this game and will send the boys out with a good gameplan . Coach Cragg was active at practice this week supporting Kevin and providing much intelligence on last year's game.I am predicting a tie game at halftime,14-14, and then we will see if the Golden Eagles perform as predicted.  I'm thinking the underdog has nothing to lose.....a new position for Hobart recently.....I kind of like it ...in about 40 hours we will know...GOBART!

Did I see a 'boner loss' in there somewhere?

A look into the bomber preseason camp.....

The part where Nabi was discussing going to Fat Jack's with his linemen was amazing. I laughed out loud when one of them told him "You should be an offensive lineman" because of how much he eats

He's another name I've heard good things about.

How are things shaping up along the lines?
