Semi-serious question: do they pass the hat on the visitors side at Union games? Only watch the games online so don't know how full the stands were on the home side but looked like a bunch of folks watching from the hillside behind the visitors and I assume they do not pay any admission fee. Nice ambiance though.

I'm a newcomer to LL football so know little about the athletic histories of the schools. Learning a bit and enjoying the banter on this site.

One Union player who caught my eye is OT Tim Driscoll; just a freshman but getting a fair bit of playing time. He's listed at 225 pounds but looks more like 190 as he's quite tall. Seems to be holding his own however (no pun intended).

Ned

You have to pay to get in no matter what side you're on. The visitors side is more for the fun crowd, the bantering, students, etc etc. It's like the bleachers at Fenway. The stands are where the parents, the cow-bellers, the stuffies, and the parking lot wine and cheesers sit. So, most Union fans are in the stands.

Luckily, Bartman had another distraction yesterday and did not watch the Hobart disappointment . There are no excuses and defenses for Machs comments based on the results other than...at least they fought back to regain the lead. I would not have wanted to be Coach DeWall and alone with my own thoughts on the bus ride back. They should have beaten Endicott(although respect to the Endicott defense for denying Hobart O at the end of the game)  but they didn't and I am afraid we might be what Mach thinks we are. All this must motivate the Statesmen to be the best they can be between now and the big game against Union. I remain a loyalist, but it is clear that Union will be a one touchdown + favorite , despite the home advantage. This will be a game that will define the Staesmen for the year, not yesterday's game. Get up, prepare and get it done on 10/6 and all will be forgiven.
As far as my picks this week, I went 3-3 as Hobart, SLU and Rochester all went down....a bit of a LL homer optimism week which is very bad for picking accuracy. I feel about my picks they way the Statesmen feel about yesterday's game.....we are all in pain. I have pulled out the Ron Zaccapa and have already consummed some with my morning beverage and will be gulping all day until finished  . My only other hope is that the Giants can win their first game ...otherwise a serious watch may need to called for the Bartman ...I hope everyone has a nice day because I may not be able to respond to any posts as the bottom of the bottle is reached....

It wasn't a clean sweep, and it was a nailbiter again, but if I were you, i'd fire up that Ron Jeremy Juice, keep the shower warm, and have lots of towels ready.

Well, I was there and it took every bit of the 5 hour ride home to PA for me to settle down.  Hobart has talented athletic players, even on defense.  Our defensive scheme just seemed lost.  We played 3 man front the whole game (better than 2, like at Shenandoah), but did very little stunting or blitzing.  If my math is correct (Mach can double check me here), but 5 on O vs 3 on D, meant that every play the O had an advantage.  We put very little pressure on the QB, made him look like an All American.  We could not stop the run up the middle, our LB corps had plenty of tackles, but not after 4-5 yd gains.  Our defensive backfield did OK, but given enough time, they get beat.  On offense, we could not run the ball at all in the first half, so we totally gave up and passed almost the entire second half.  I am just not convinced that Hoffman should be the primary weapon.  Finally, the F'ing Unsportsmanlike penalties killed Hobart again!  Momentum was swinging in the 4th Q, finally had a great defensive stand, CB makes a phenomenal play....then stands over the WR of Endicott and gives the double bicep pose.  Bush league.
On the plus side Hobart has 2 weeks to get ready for Union.  The DC has got to figure out this new 3 man front, or give up and go back to the 4 man front that seemed to work for the past decade.  The Oline needs to get healthy (2 OT's have been out for the last 2 weeks).  Dakota Harvey was back, but clearly needs to shake the rust off.  All is not lost, the talent is there to win games.  LL season starts in 2 weeks!

OK Mach, you got part of that right. There is a "lawn" admission ($5) that is charged for everyone and a ticket gate behind the frat house. As for who sits where...many of Union's longtime faithful, including Dlip, Dadlip and myself prefer to sit in front of the frat house (no longer frat boy occupied I may add) so we can intercept, study and relay the strategy of the visiting team to the Union staff. It's been working.  ;D

Thanks for your interest in Union football Ned. It seems you have a good eye for talent. #79 Tim Driscoll 6'6", 275 is one of Union coach Behrman's prize recruits after leading his high school, Pleasantville, NY to the New York State class B finals last year. Driscoll was named the NYS Class B Player of the year. You must have also noticed some of Union's other freshmen...WR Andre Ross Jr. is tearing up the LL and RB Ike Irabor has brought speed and power to the Union rushing attack. Things are bright in Shocktown.  ;)

I believe it is a 3-4, just no OLB playing on the line

And McCarthy is too small to be playing ILB as much as he is.  He and Prince should be playing traditional will and roverr blitzing and covering the edge supporting the DEs.  FR Cottom looked good when they threw him in at DT.  Should have him and Moore w/Boone, Montissol and Johnson spelling then and Smith, Huggins, Rudolph and Spano rotating at DE w Aguilar/Walker inside.

Lot of the personnel issues, aside from well above average attrition if various types, has to do w Drach and David recruiting after Yoder and Kevin left.  This isn't a knock on the kids there, they are supremely talented, but the roster transformed into one heavily skewed towards speed and skill guys as Drach was obsessed with airing it out.  This is the same team that trotted our Webb, dougherty and connor Hartiganfor 5-6yrs not that long ago. The defense was transforming to a 3-3-5 w David and recruited as such after we sleepwalked through the 2013 season and pushover 1st rd playoff game to only get destroyed by that same defense and a good Fisher team that had actually played some real competition.  This season will reflect that plus the losses (injury, transfer, two starter DBs quitting after the season started), especially on d.  Future years who knows but the talent there has to come together and make it work against a not great league this year or face a year the team hasn't had in 30yrs).

Totally agree!  We need to bring support along the outside of the DE's if they are going to continue to be ina 3point stance over the OT.  I know how you feel about Crobok, he was suspended for the last game, but if he can eliminate the stupid personal foul BS, he is a big body to stuff the inside.

pumkinattack

And good to point out a kid let his team down with his actions.  Jr, 300lb DT who earned a suspension for a game we lost by 3 where we got flashed up the middle over and over again by at Best a middling rushing team in d3.  For any mistakes DeWall and the staff made, I support that suspension.

Da U with a very convincing win over Dem Spicy Boyz...who turned out to not be all that spicy. However, they certainly have some very good athletes and should do well in their league for the rest of the season. They also would most likely spread that purple drank over what in 2018 seems to be the weakest Buff St squad we've seen in quite some time. Dutch Boys believe that Purple Drink would take those pussy cats to the litter box...

Hobart seems to be a ****ing mess but of course will get there **** together in two weeks. Gonna be a very tough game for the Garnet. Pumpkinheads will be fired up (always are the closer you get to Halloween) and looking to right their season. A win over Union will do just that.

Union used to run a three man front and it was pure ****! 3 on 5 makes ZERO sense when hoping for any penetration and QB pressure. dlip watched for a decade as opposing QB's ****ing camped out and took hours to find open receivers. It's a worthless D unless your LB's are over the top talented and can really pass protect and react to the run immediately. Get rid of that **** Hobart...after you play Union.

A pic of RPI's win sits below  :P

I actually think the suspension is an NCAA rule.  If he gets suspended next game, that is by DeWall
And I totally agree on any suspension he doles out.  There were a couple of players from this last game who may qualify as well.  If you were there postgame, you would understand
