good start for the conference, but I'll be hearing the hooting and hollering from nobody but the Hobart faction at this time because only the Pumpkins delivered their Monkey Stomp to an actual opponent.

A BIG DAY FOR THE LIBERTY LEAGUE:   Union wins 42-7 and went out of their way not to run up the score. Will Bellamy was a perfect 11/11 for 192 yards and 4 TDs and only played a quarter and a half. Backup John Germinerio (yes, Joe's brother) was also 11/11.  LL first team all stars Andre Ross Jr. caught 4/125 yds. and 3 TDS and Ike Irabor ran 11/108. The Dutchmen starters went out with about 8 minutes to go in the 1st half and did not play in the 2nd half. The Dutchmen 2nd and 3rd teamers took a knee in the redzone just before halftime and again at the end of the game. Coach Behrman played everybody. Just sayin'  ;D

That's a new NCAA record btw

Rumor has it that Ice Bear was otherwise occupied with a family commitment and was not at Frank Bailey...maybe a hockey game  ??? You were missed.

Pure slop by SLU tonight.   Unbelievably atrocious football.  I'd be surprised if we even won a game this year.

you have Mooville, Wick and UR all at home, that oughta be 3 wins right there. Utica has been getting quite bite-y lately so it happens.

Despite the lopsided 33-7 win by Hobart, Brockport should not be discounted this year. The Golden Eagle defense is  very strong, as the Hobart offense was held under 200 yards, although with 6 Brockport turnovers and often a short field remaining, the scoring opportunities were often teed up for the offense. Both offensive lines have more work to do as is often the case with key graduations from the prior year, but the Hobart team was the more disciplined team both emotionally and mentally yesterday(kudos to DeWall and his coaching staff). The Brockport sideline has some great athletes at all of the skill positions, so I expect a breakout game after the frustration they experienced today. They need to shake off the whole Germinerio leaving and big losses to RPI at the end of last year and the embarrassment of being ranked #11/13 and getting skunked by a team they blew out last year. They will, but they need time for the new Line to gel after giving up 7 sacks and a bunch of TFLs and QB hurries. That said, with QB time to throw, the Brockport WRs are still a very scary weapon as Hubbard looks like he could score in a blink of an eye.
I think the big story yesterday was the arrival of the Hobart defense. The defensive line was stout  against the run and got a solid push against Bport passers,  the Linebackers are deep and  awesome(it seemed like there were 6 of them out there yesterday when I only counted 4) reflecting the personality of their defensive coordinator Aaron Backhaus '00, who played like the Tasmanian Devil in the late 1990s for the Statesmen. The Hobart defensive backs may be the best group in years and this defense is built to defend the awesome talent they will face from Ithaca and Union this year .
This was only one game , but the team was well prepared and when you have the key ingredients of last year's #1 LL offense along with an improved defense, and if they don't get overconfident and stay disciplined, I think the Statesmen have more good Saturdays in 2019.
The  LL race will be very exciting this year .

Not going to comment on the ethical debate you're all having on Joe G. I'm in a position where I really can't, because of my job.

So, on to what happened on the field.

Last season, the Bombers were terrible in the RZ and struggled in the kicking game. So to me, the biggest takeaway was that Ithaca went 8-for-8 in the RZ and freshman kicker Nicholas Bahamonde was 7-for-8 on XPs and hit a 30-yard FG.

Germinerio is really good. So are Gladney and Vito. They're not going to combine for 5 TDs a week. But they're going to be very hard to stop.

Defensively, they gave up a good deal of yardage in the air (as well as several pass interference penalties), which is to perhaps be expected, considering the entire secondary was comprised of sophomores. But they also got four sacks and forced four turnovers. So, a mixed bag.

Ultimately, I have faith in Toerper and his staff to get the D in line, and an offense with Germinerio, Gladney, Vito, and a good kicking game is going to score a ton of points. This could be a special season for IC

Caz Bombers

Ithaca into the poll this week at #24 and Hobart tied for the lead among the Others Receiving Votes brigade.

RPI remains #19; Alfred/Brockport/Cortland ORV.
