Maybe most of you guys have seen this but if not here's a list of all the current guys from DIII that are on NFL rosters this year. Includes a nice picture of Ali Marpet from Hobart.

Did I mention that Union sucks?

(IB, we have a MAT program if you'd like to cross over to the cool side)

Ice Bear says we'll have an idea by the end of the game today. Let's hope for no injuries on either side.

Union will still suck even if you cheat and win.  But we still love you in Geneva.  Like the pedohpile uncle or retarded nephew isn't he family.p

Nice win for the Dutchmen, Behrman has done a great job bringing some enthusiasm back to Shocktown. Last year they got manhandled physically by Ithaca, We'll see how far they've come in a few weeks.

IB says D3 officials suck in Shocktown and everywhere D3 football is played. This is now what he comes to expect...350 pound overweight 65 year olds conferencing for ****ing 25 min between each play to discuss a roughing the kicker call when special teams weren't even on the field for said play. At this point it's just part of the game IIBHO...
Lazy take, dlip, you're better than that (and this is from someone who was convinced he got held every time he rushed the passer). No one refs strictly for the money, but usually because they love being involved in the game, and it's nice to get some extra cash. There are certainly awful calls and certain refs who are in over their heads, but if you've ever reffed a game, you realize how hard it is.
Ever notice that at every game in every sport there are fans who think the refs are awful? Maybe it's not the refs. And there's a reason there is a huge shortage of refs out there.

Highlighting this because it's critical. Being a referee is incredibly hard, incredibly thankless, and just making blanket criticisms is silly.

And I can almost guarantee that your local youth/high school district could use more good refs.

I just got back from a Union doubleheader. Needless to say I'm ecstatic with Union football's dominate win over Hobart. Jeff Behrman is God.  :o ...On the other hand the young hockey team was out manned by Boston University 7-3 but hey, I'm a football guy.  Fun afternoon in Shocktown.  ;D

Ice Bear says fair enough Doid and you certainly make some very good points. Point taken pal.

Congrats to Union on a "no doubt" win today. Not to take anything away from Union , but this was the lowest energy the Statesmen generated this season. The offensive line is banged up and it showed with 4 sacks today. The NJAC defenses were at least comparable to the Union defense physically, but we had problems giving the QB time which I give full credit to the Union coaches and defense. We had a difficult job running today, which was either a signal that we are banged up or Union is pretty awesome, somehow I think it is in between. I don't know why Hofmann was taken out, other than the pick 6, but in a come from behind game he gives Hobart the best chance. Krewson was knocked silly on one play and had to come out for Hofmann, and Hofmann immediately moved the team, but it was way too little too late. Oh well, very disappointing, and I hope the boys mend for the RPI game at home. There may be some validity to IB theory that having a lighter schedule early keeps the team fresh, because we were not fresh and looked lathargic( poor Dillon Carey our LT needed help getting up every time he fell, so you know they are hurting ).
Now we can only hope for 2 wins against IC and RPI and  2 losses by  Union against the same teams or some crazy three or four way tie. Oh well, good luck to Union , you have your fate in your hands, and should feel great about your win today and the potential for a special season.
PS- Ike Irabor's uniform was covered with oil today and danced a jig for almost 200 yards....the Statesmen could not hold on to him and he has great footwork....a great day for Ike, he should be LL OPOTW

Ice Bear says he is very happy with today's result. The Dutchmen were the more physical team and executed on offense when they needed to. Ice Bear eats crow on his prediction as he was way off.

Ice bear says Union is a good team. Ice was impressed with how physical the D was and IB thanks Ike Irabor for holding onto the football and making big plays all day on O (with some help from a very consistent Griffen Beal.

Ice Bear feels Hobart is a tough team that has a very good defense and just needs to figure out their QB situation. Both guys showed glimpses of prowess but also made some big mistakes. Ice Bear is a big Hobart fan this week.

Ice Bear also was very impressed with Hobart's #99. Kid plays hard and is a leader. IB enjoyed seeing his leadership first hand on the sidelines. He's a tough kid and a player.

Ice Bear says lots of season to go in the LL. IB has no clue how it will turn out.

Ice agrees and his post was meant to be a bit tongue and cheek...with that said that blanket statement was not accurate. Also it's important to mention the officials at today's game were in great physical shape...

306, 4 tuddies, no picks, no sacks, 47 rushing and a score - a Russell Wilson-esque stat line for Mister Joseph G on the road on grass. Vito was back today with 4 catches for 53 yards. Good to see.

Kinda wish the schedule wasn't set up with Union and RPI back to back at the end of LL play, but it will make for an awesome November (even if things go sideways against Hobart in 2 weeks, kein eina hara)

Trust me, your just making making a normal, innocuous comment. For a real crazy time, go to a summer lacrosse tournament in Long Island, where the fans are lined up directly off the field. Those refs have the patience of Job, still surprised I havent seen any of them go into the crowd. Good times.

It was also clear to me that Hobart was very flat and Union wanted it more in the 1st half.  Hobart dug a hole and was unable to get out.  Union looked sharper, more physical and was just ready to play yesterday.

I think the top 25 ranking can also get into teams heads in a game like this.  Hobart goes in a top 25 team, playing a Union team who wasn't ranked and played some cupcakes and Hobart was simply did not look ready to play.

I've watched 1.5 Hobart games, .5 Union games and 4 Ithaca games.  From first glance Hobart doesn't have the playmakers that Ithaca or Union has.  Ithaca has Joe G. and Gladney, Union has Ike and Ross Jr. (although I have yet to see Ross Jr. distinguish himself as a playmaker but I've only seen him on film 1.5 times over the past two years). Hobart doesn't appear to have any play makers.  The oline and dline look big, and the defense looked very aggressive and tough last week against Montclair but over all they don't have that playmaker which is going to give you 7-21 points every week based on just their ability alone and big play potential.  That being said, RPI never seems to have those playmakers either and they have had the top team in the LL without a doubt twice over the past 4 years so that gives Hobart a chance.

And I'm not being a homer here but Joe G. puts Ithaca in a category by themselves.  Throw Gladney in there and it really makes it tough for other teams to keep up and stop them on offense.  Ithaca's defense runs a scheme that appears to give teams a chance if that team has a QB who can make precision throws like the SJF QB last week.  IC runs an aggressive zone defense that really forces the QB to make a decision IF Ithaca can get pressure with that zone blitz.  SJF was able to give their QB that extra second and that's all they needed to come back.  Add in some screens and nice run schemes, if other teams can see what SJF did, I don't think Ithaca is unbeatable.
