Ice Bear is curious...any idea why teams don't have many...if any night games? The U has this beautiful field with lights.

Ice says the small amount of night games they have had have been well attended and super ****ing enjoyable.

Ice Bear's guess is it comes down to $ and teams don't want to pay to spend the night or they don't feel like driving back late at night. Any other reasons?

Ice Bear would love Union to host at the very least one night game a year.

I'd also suspect that students prefer day games

And I don't know about that one.  I think students would show up more for night games.

For some reason, Hobart's day home games always start at noon.  Good luck getting half the student body up by noon on a Saturday. Thinking that the Saturday night game may attract more students

Ice Bear is thinking the same thing. Ice sure as **** knows one thing, the Union students don't really come out for the Saturday afternoon games which pisses him off. Some come but man a huge loud group on a consistent basis would be a 12th man.

Frank Bailey certainly used to have that twelfth man...until Rochester pulled their team off the field after getting absolutely ****ing verbally hammered by Union students. Ice was a little cub when the frat boys used to bring out the ****ing couch...

I remember when Union played Albany State (back when they were still DIII) in 1983 at night, and the atmosphere was insane. I bet there were ~50% more people there than if it were played during the day, and given how fierce that rivalry was, it would already have been packed. Still one of the greatest atmospheres I've been a part of, and that includes all of the playoff games at Union. The place was bananas.
I would love to see The Shoes game at night.

The fall tradition of going to the football game every weekend is nearly dead for much of our younger set. I've attended a couple of Friday night high school games recently and the crowd consists of senior citizens, parents and Jr.high screamers. Most of the kids are just running around and care nothing about the game. It's just horsing around time... The high school kids aren't there at all. They have to work or can't be bothered. Little wonder they won't show up at their college games either.

Just to add to Ice Bear's fratboy memory. For those who may have never been to Union's Frank Bailey Field, the frat house, sigma chi something, sits on the visitor's side of the field. The fratboys moved out a few years ago after their 99 year lease was broken. It was somewhat of a "jock" house so there was always a contingent of guys on a couch brought from inside sitting behind the visitors bench, doing what frat boys do, raising hell. The building rooftop now is used by coaches and for filming. It also serves as "the best seats in the house' for IceBear, IB dad, me and other fervent  Dutchmen fans. We can closely monitor the visitors and hear all the banter going on between coaches and players. ::) Often I can be found relaying information to the Union sidelines.  ;D

Doid...I have fond memories of those Albany State matchups. It was a 1981 10-7 upset victory over a nationally ranked Great Danes team that fueled the rise of Union football and led to a Stagg Bowl appearance just 2 years later. The last time Union played Albany, a night game, an Albany team transitioning to D1 spanked the Dutchmen 41-0.  :(

Just checked out Albany State's Great Danes....drawing about 3300 to their home games. Pep remembers the Saxons playing the Danes in the day...always a good battle between Bob Ford's boys and the Yunevichmen. And usually a comparable crowd.

Ice Bear

Ice Bear says he is rooting for Hobart this weekend big time.

Ice says Hobart O will continue to improve but the Bomber D will as well. They won't let up like they did against SJF in the second half. Both of these teams are very good D3 football teams but this is where IC begins to really let everyone know this season is special.

Ice Bear says IC wins 28-17 behind _______ athlete (notice the word "student" missing) Joe G and some excellent receivers in Gladney and Vito.

Grow up

Ice Bear says he digs Bombers798891 and always appreciates his deep knowledge of the game and the manner in which he contributes to the LL board.

Ice Bear says with that being said please remove the pole that is jammed up your ass regarding Joe "the academic all-american" G. Just as you have the right to support his transfer/decision Ice has the right to joke about it and not support it. Ice doesn't think it's a great thing for D3 ball but at the end of the day it is no big deal just something that feels a bit "off" in the D3 world to Ice. Ice is sure one could find plenty on Union's Men's Ice Hockey team that may be questionable at the very least to the fabric of a D3 academic school that Union aims to be (or markets itself as). However IB is just poking fun at the situation and having some fun with it. IB believes Joe G. wears big boy pants and can certainly handle it, probably better than you can.

Ice says at the end of the day Joe is an incredible athlete, QB, and probably a great kid. IB is actually happy for IC and Ice wishes Joe nothing but the best in the real world every day. Every decision has ramifications and all knew that this one would receive a bit of banter here and there at the very least. ****ing deal with it.

I have made exactly zero comments about Joe's decision to transfer in any context other than football.

You're the one who began the year rooting for him to play terribly, and is now still making snide, sarcastic comments about the situation a month later.

Caz Bombers

Caz says Ice Bear should have been a member of the Oklahoma or USC bands, they love playing the only song they know over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Ice says, again he is just having fun...you seem to not get it and/or be down with it. Fair enough. You certainly have that right and like Ice has said bombers, Ice thinks the world of your knowledge and sharing on these boards.

Ice Bear says fine...but to expect a move like this to not get joked about/ribbed about/picked on is just ****ing stupid. As a matter of fact Ice is surprised this hasn't been ****ed with more...aside from FR calling the move out on ITH...which Ice agrees with to an extent. Opps here goes that song again...

Machiavelli

I'm no Ithaca guy, but I am a-ok with their current situation. No qualms at all. Anyone who says they wouldn'twant be ok with something similar to happen to their team is lying. Flat out.

Ice Bear says this is a fair opinion Mach...but not fact by any means. Ice wouldn't want a super talented player like Germinerio for one season as a graduate transfer to displace Will Bellamy at Union...especially for just one year. If the kid made an academic commitment to Union for more than one year (meaning he had more than one season of eligibility left) Ice would be coo wit dat but for one season at the D3 level, no ****in way. Call Ice what you will but thats not what D3 FB is to him and that's the truth. At this level Ice would like to think that there is some semblance of loyalty and respect for a student athlete's hard work and commitment to a school...which they are also paying ****ing thousands of dollars to attend.

Ice's respect, right or wrong sits with Nabi and all the teammates and coaches Germinerio bolted on at Brockport. Again, just Ice's opinion and not that big of a deal but certainly worth discussion as this is about more than one kid.

Ice Bear says either way he can take it or leave it but will certainly share his opinion on here and have fun with a controversial choice related to academics and football.

He wouldn't go to Union for 2 reasons:

1. He probably couldn't get in, and
2. Their starting QB is a much different situation than Ithaca.

A few years ago you woulda welcomed him with open arms.
