One of the longest running College Football rivalries takes place tomorrow. It is being played for the 112th time and is played by two of the best colleges in Western NY. The Centennial Cup is currently held by the Statesmen of Hobart College and the Yellowjackets of the University of Rochester will try to pull off the big upset and mark the turnaround of the program. Who cares about old muddy clogs or teams that are too embarrassed of their own home fields and must rent a stadium in New Jersey.....the Centennial Cup is the place to be tomorrow😀

Wait...wasn't there one guy who believed in Union right from the start? Maybe he agrees with Mach. ;)

I didn't say I 'believed' in Union, Bill. I said I think they are very good and could beat anyone in the East.

I 'believe' in Santa Claus, but I've seen him run the 40, and there's no way he's faster than the Easter Bunny.

Tooth Fairy came to my house last week.  Blazing speed.  Santa can deadlift 500+ though.  Easter Bunny has never impressed me.  Unpopular opinion I know but I'm callin it as I see it.

NESCAC blazing speed or just regular blazing speed? It does matter.

NEWMAC blazing.

Randomly checking the Hobart football history page on their website.  Notes that they are 0-47 all time against Syracuse.  Also an asterisk (*) next to it which says "actual historical record."

Can anyone enlighten me on that?

Side note, would have been interesting if Cortland came to the league instead of Buffalo State.  You would have had 3 schools (Hobart, Cortland, Ithaca) within an hour of each other, with Rochester being a little farther for IC and Cortland but still under 2 hours).  Buff State makes it interesting but is their any idea why Buff State came in instead of Cortland?

Did anybody hear something?
(I did get a chuckle out of "mark the turnaround of the program"... ;D)

A) probably vacated wins by Syracuse?

B) they wanted an affiliate member that wasn't a threat to the full members. Cortland and Brockport are too good.

I have wondered about this as well.  Seems like SJF, Hartwick or Alfred would have been a better "general" fit for the league?  Keep the Empire 8 primarily state schools/ LL more private liberal arts schools.

I'm guessing the E8 wouldn't let someone to leave for one sport and the LL wasn't offering full membership to those other schools anyway.  That's my guess.  The SUNY football league probably didn't care, as it only helps them with their pool A chances and why not have the minimum teams in the league just for that purpose right?  I was just thinking Cortland would be a better fit geographically and although I get the "don't want the two best SUNY schools there", those things can change with new coaches, etc.  I can see it though.

As for the Hobart/Syracuse thing I believe that must have been a typo.  I don't think the two schools played that many times.  Not according to the Syracuse website anyway.

Ithaca was invited for an all-sports LL membership since they are a private institution and had the support of the other ADs. Buffalo State was probably offered  a football only membership to help the LL with a Football auto bid for an undisclosed amount of cash ;D

The Syracuse website for SU-Hobart Football series was researched by Syracuse history majors interning for the AD.....enough said ; The hobart researches included a number of neutral site games where mass quantities of alcohol were consummed by the SU players who recalled none of these contests ;)

I guess I've always take the D3 playoff approach for granted, but in reading some of the bracketed projects, it occurs to me the current system is convoluted mess - a weird mash up between take the best teams and region-based brackets.  I'd rather they just pick one - pure top to bottom seeding regardless of location, or pure regional brackets like the old days.  I'd certainly vote for four purely regional brackets, since there is not nearly enough crossover scheduling to really compare meaningfully compare across region.  You pretty much have to squint and rely on your biases. I mean, could you actually thoughtfully decide which of Hardin-Simmons, Susquehanna, or St. Thomas would be the lucky 16-seed who gets Mt. Union is round 2?

Union also has played Syracuse in the past. The Union football page says the Dutchmen are 7-1 All Time vs Syracuse...It also lists the last Union victory as happening on 11/2/95...I believe that is 1895!!!  ;D

Ice Bear

Ice Bear says a couple dudes here at D3 picking RPI to wear those ass ugly ****ing clogs tomorrow. Certainly a possibility and one the Dutchmen better get fired up for and take to heart. Ice Bear for one is hoping for a ****ing Union steamroller tomorrow which paves the way for their first round match up.

Ice Bear says there is only one thing that can make Ice let go of the devastation that was 2006...a big win tomorrow.

And that's all we're ever really trying to say with those upset picks, either. What's possible?

If Ice's Garnet doesn't take tomorrow as serious as can be they'll find out.

I think the Dutchmen will be ready to play today.  What I worry about more is how banged up we are.
