That was a designed screen FYI.  There were linemen downfield so he really couldn't throw it again but I guess he could have ran out of bounds....

Yeah, it looked like the whole thing was designed to go right, but good call on the linemen being downfield making a second pass impossible. In fact, had it been called, the runoff would have ended the game anyway.

I honestly just wanted to give credit to IC's two defensive linemen for blowing up that play, which I didn't see from the original angle.

Right.  Amazing play by the two bomber defenders who seemed to read screen at the perfect time. And as for the QB, I'm trying to think of what he actually could do there once he sees his first (and only read) busted up.  I think he needed to throw it into the ground or out of bounds (behind the line of scrimmage?) in order for the runoff to not come into play since there were lineman downfield.  Whether it was his first or second throw doesn't matter, as any throw downfield would have resulted in a penalty at that point.

Not too sure on the exact rules there in terms of throwing it out of bounds....being out of the pocket, or "throwing it away" behind the line of scrimmage instead of past it.

Liberty League Week 8 Picks (last week 3-0; 31-3 YTD)

Dutchmen      38      Yellowjackets       10        Dutchies score early and start preparing for final run

Larries           10       Pumpkinheads     31        Bart takes Larries seriously, but Boswell/Denham gallop

Bengals          14      Bombers             28        Bengals hang with Bombers for awhile

Good luck to all the teams

Looking forward to the HOB/SLU to see how it stacks up against Union/SLU last week for comparisons purposes - very difficult to figure out exactly where Unions matches upon against HOB/IC/RPI so far.

Over in Rochester, looks like Union will get all its playmakers on the field at the same time for the first time since week 1. Should be fun. Since UofR just made me pay $7 to watch their feed I'm now rooting for a triple-monkey-stomp bloodbath.

One of SLUs top WRs got injured during the game last week (McCormack)  Not sure if he is back but he was a big loss for SLU.

The UNION offense, at full strength with Irabor, Tolbert and Ross Jr. all on the field, take their first possession right down the field to score on an Irabor run...7-0 Dutch.

So the Rochester QB throws a pick and in the scramble and run back Union safety Austin St. Pierre decleats a Yellowjacket. Flags fly and the ruling is targeting. St. Pierre has a history of vicious hits, that's part of what makes him so valuable. He's intimidating from his safety position. In watching the play again he tries, and in my opinion succeeds in leading with his shoulder not his head so I'm thinking targeting might be reversed if officials look at it at halftime. Either way since it happened in the 1st half St. Pierre will be eligible to play next week against Hobart...14-0 end of 1st on two Irabor TDs.

Union up 28-0 with pretty much a perfect half of football.  Outgained UofR 294-19, 22 minutes TOP, and 10 of 10 on third downs.

UfanBill

Just a followup...St. Pierre back in the game in the 2nd half so the targeting must have been reviewed and overturned.  8-)

UR finally scores, but Union got 35 on the board first, so I think we're done here.

Union has pulled the starters in the 3rd quarter. Injuries have been a main concern all season. Today's no different unfortunately. RB John Anderson, CB Daivon Clements and WR Will Sirmon have all left the game with injuries that looked potentially serious.  >:(

Ithaca up 17-0 in the 1st quarter with a few minutes left.  The grass looks THICK at Butterfield today.  Also looks wet/soaked although the camera (or video I should say) this week also looks much clearer than it has this year.

Jonny Utah

Ok.  Ithaca up 38-0 with over 10 minutes left in the 2nd quarter.  Buff State looks like they gave up before the game started.

An injury ravaged SLU team takes Hobart down to the wire on the road.  Certainly not upset with that effort.

Great effort by the Saints.  But for their gnarly hit to the head on Grochot in the first drive Bart would have been toast.

Congrats to the Saints for a great effort today. While Grochot had to leave the game after the hit, their Freshman QB had a lot of poise in the second half and was quite effective. No disrespect to the Saints, but this was Hobart's worst offensive effort ,a very sloppy game  having committed a ten yard penalty on almost every first down ,starting almost every third quarter drive in the hole. Also, Krewson is a great kid but not a great throwing QB. The Hobart HC has a tough decision to make as to whether the better passer , the second string QB, should start against Union, as Hobart can't upset Union with a one dimentional offense from Denham and Boswell rushing. Alternatively,  Boswell can also run the wildcat as he did at Berkshire School for two years( he's done this for about 20 or so snaps this season ), and  he might have a more accurate arm than Krewson ... .Well, lots of work this week to have a chance against Union, especially with all of the Dutchmen  weapons healthy .
Next week will let everyone know how the top 4 teams stand with Hobart at Union and Ithaca at RPI. Will IC and Union stay undefeated?.....IC should have a serious problem with fan noise, for sure.
