There seems to be some sensitivity/ or insensitivity on what "just fine" means referring to NCC's season. Personally ,if my wife ever says that was "just fine" , I'm totally happy ;D

It was funny to see unionpalooza go down that "academic path". I swear for a second that I was on the NESCAC board, the board that mocks the Ivy League, UAA, Patriot League, etc.....................let alone Union and Ithaca. as inferior. If they only knew the colleges attended by many of my wealthiest clients. I'm talking tens and hundreds of millions in assets. The list includes many non-Ivy, non-NESCAC, non-UAA colleges and universities...............but does include many, God forbid, state schools. Gasp!!!! ;)

Give me the schools that take chances on kids (first to attend college let alone graduate) vs. the snooty, stuffy schools in the Northeast where Tad and Biffy write checks for Tad Jr. and Biffy Jr. (and larger checks to make sure that the prepsters can get into those schools) and where the Prep School elite, with many life advantages given to them at conception, pop their shirt colors up, tuck the shirts in the lobster shorts as they head out to Nantucket.

That's not the guy I want in the foxhole........although most wouldn't be found anywhere near a foxhole.

When we die, the life we lived will not be judged on where we went or didn't go to school. It will be based on living a Godly life, having faith, being kind to all and being generous with our resources/treasues, time and talents.

It's really as simple as that!! God Bless.

I'm sorry if I triggered you.  I just wondered out loud why schools that are low grad rate/high grad rate dominate D3 football but not other D3 sports; I didn't make a value judgement about them (except Mt Union and UMHB, which I'll get to).  I happen to think the only metric for judging a school is how much they help a kid between Day 1 and graduation, and how selective a school is has nothing to do with that.  There are plenty of top liberal arts colleges that don't do much more than accept affluent, above-average 18 year olds and turn them in affluent, above-average 21 year olds, which is no great feat.  (I often worry that Union may becoming one of them.) Most state schools accomplish much much more.

That said, on MtU and UMBH, I find both models gross, particularly the latter.  Their football programs are about funding the school, not the student athletes.  Nearly half of incoming freshman at MtU are football players; over a third at UMBH.  Only a fraction will play, and I wonder how many of those kids graduate. And for those who don't, they've got student loan debt but no degree to show for it.  It's a version of what is poisoning higher ed more generally; any school loading kids up with debt in return for no degree (or just as often, a worthless degree) is making the world a worse place.  And there a lot of those schools.

Why did I think this IC/NCC game was at 12 and not 1.......?

Tough to look at because athletes at every level and every school get special treatment when it comes to the admissions office except for MIT and some state schools that have rigid rubrics for admissions (including some schools with higher admissions rates including MA state schools in the MASCAC).

Also I know some guidance counselors who have told me that places like Northeastern University will ask students what other schools they are applying to and if there is any hint of NU being a "safety" school they will deny admission.  This is stark contrast to what many schools do in just setting up some random number for GPA/SAT/ACT numbers and just taking a % of those applicants.

Then you have the nescac schools who dominate in the wealthier sports.  Look at the rosters of some of their teams.  All prep/private kids who have had their parents paying for hockey/golf/ski/lax since they were in pre-K.  Add onto that the prep schools also bending admissions to let them in to these schools.  Kids in those schools simply study more and get into college easier than your kid possibly lost in the public system.

Rocky start for the Bombers.  Play-calling on both sides of the ball is way too aggressive; they'd be much better off just playing their game and trusting their kids to make plays. NCC o-line doing whatever they want, and IC's o-line seems totally outmatched - NCC is just running past them.  Smells like a blowout to me.

UfanBill

My initial impression of NCC is that their O-Line is dominating. The LT #72 has got to be an All-American candidate. It's looking like a long day for the Bombers.

Totally agree on the o-line.  That said, can NCC not afford full shirts for those guys?  That's a lot a 300-pounders in tank tops.

Defensive blitz calls just killing Ithaca now.

Ice Bear

Ice says his initial impression of NCC is that they are really ****ing good and a clearly a step above IC across the board.

I will definitely say this - NCC's live feed is the best in D3.  Super clear, great camera work, replays, and a broadcast crew that are easy to listen to and really know their stuff. TV-quality broadcast stuff.

UfanBill

Glad to see a Bombers response. Typical Ithaca drive fueled by a special teams play. I disagree somewhat with Palooza. The broadcast crew is constantly crying about calls/non-calls. Annoying and not necessary for a #1 team.

NCC winning the game up front on both sides of the ball.  But I like how Ithaca today (and this year in general) has built around what they have and don't have.  Lots of WR screens that they run well and other RB screens and sweeps that can at least keep a defense honest.  The online is what they are.  Good zone blocking big guys but that only gets you so far against a team like this.

Would have liked to have seen some better tackling in the first half but they have been playing some decent bend but don't break ball up to this point.

Ice Bear loves how physical the Bombers are. Ice says those are a tough bunch of young men and they are swarming to the best of their ability. To Ice, that demands respect and Ice is sure the NCC players, while more talented and deeper across the board, respect that as well.

Ice Bear says congrats to IC on one hell of a season. Ice also congrats NCC on what was an absolute dominating W over a very veteran and tough IC team.

Actually agree here. While pretty egregious at times, I don't like to talk about it too much. Today was certainly more than I'd have liked.
