Hey PBR,

Today, a very special ceremonial lamp should be lit, as this particular Friday is the 75th anniversary of the repeal of prohibition.

Final 2008 installment of TGP's weekly recaps:

#1 Mount Union 42 - #23 Hobart 7

The Hobart Statesmen (9-2) were able to keep it interesting for the first half, but ultimately couldn't generate enough offense to keep up with the #1 ranked Mount Union Purple Raiders (12-0).  The Raiders dominated time of possession 35:25-24:35, won the turnover battle and eventually broke the stout Hobart defense in the second half to out gain the Statesmen 503 to 196 total yards.  Leading the way for the Raiders was their All-American SR RB Nate Kmic who broke the NCAA DIII rushing record following a 235 yard rushing performance (on 37 carries and scoring four TDs).  Although the Statesmen passing game was rendered ineffective due to the speed of the MUC DBs, Hobart's 104 net yards rushing was the second highest performance against the #1 ranked Purple Raider rushing defense.  SO RB Andrew Marlier lead the Statesmen with a workman like 56 yards on 20 carries.  With the win, Mount Union advances to the NCAA Regional Final and will face off against NJAC Champion, Cortland State (10-1) for a trip to the Final Four.  Cortland advanced to the Elite Eight by defeating Plymouth State (10-2, NEFC Champion) and Curry College (10-2, an at-large team also from the NEFC).

Mount Union was the first team to score more than one TD on the Statesmen in the first quarter all season.  After falling behind 14-0 in the first, the Statesmen offense had an opportunity to get on the board with 14:12 to play in the second quarter, but a 56 yard drive stalled just outside the MUC 20 yard line.  FY PK Conor Callahan's 30 yard field goal attempt went wide right making it the first miss for Callahan since the Union game back on October 11.  The Statesmen defense successfully shut out the MUC offense for the rest of the quarter.  Unfortunately Hobart would generate only one successful scoring drive - a 14 yard TD completion from SR QB Rich Doyle (again earning the start in spite of a second degree shoulder separation and going seven for 21 passing for 68 yards and an interception) to JR WR P.J. Overdorf - following a 13 play, 71 yard drive with 5:03 to go in the third quarter.  It was MUC the rest of the day.

SR LB Justin Hager lead the Statesmen defense with 20 tackles.  Hager is the only Statesmen defender to ever record 20+ tackles in more than one game.  Hager's 134 tackles on the season broke a 13 year old record previously held by Jesse Truly '96 (129 total tackles in a season).

Although the outcome was not what the Statesmen faithful were hoping for, Mount Union's players, coaches and fans all had very positive things to say about this Hobart team and the effort put forth on Saturday.  A link to the game recap can be found below:

40 LB Justin Hager

76 OL Mike Condon

TGP hopes you all enjoyed reviewing these weekly updates as much as TGP enjoyed writing them.  TGP is hoping to attend the Union-Hobart game in Schenectady (aka SHOCK-town) next year and will resume these updates just prior to the 2009 season opener.

With a strong returning group of players (by my count 7 or 8 starters on offense and 6 or 7 on the defense), Hobart should once again be in position to compete for the LL title and a sixth consecutive NCAA berth!

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

TGP:

These writeups were very helpful to me when I would put together my ATR. Thanks for the help.

I wish I could tell you that OJ fought the good fight, and the Sisters let him be. I wish I could tell you that...but prison is no fairy-tale world.  He never said who did it, but we all knew.  Things went on like that for awhile.  Prison life consists of routine, and then more routine.  Every so often, OJ would show up with fresh bruises.  The Sisters kept at him, sometimes he was able to fight 'em off, sometimes not. And that's how it went for OJ.  That was his routine.  I do believe those first two years were the worst for him, and I also believe that if things had gone on that way, this place would have got the best of him.

You mean the "I didn't know it was a felony" defense doesn't hold water in court?

Damn, I haven't even posted in like a week and my Karma was slain.  Some snipers out and about eh?

Same problem here, LD... Just no love for the LLPPers during playoff season, it always seems like.

Nice Story...

LD11 walked out of the grocery store this evening, with the Captain of Morgan in the car, and Egg Nog in hand, and Christmas tree on the roof of the car.  Walking through the parking lot, he hears this noise, like Gro calling 'CONCRETE'  and flatening some punk in the streets of Troy.  Instead, LD looks over to see this lady, who was old enough to be alive when dirt was invented, who apparently caught the curb in the handicapped spot walking her carriage through the lot......

Well, appartently ship tripped and was a little too old to brace her fall...And what do you know, she lands face first on the parking lot asphalt...I run over, i'm the first to the scene, and there is the biggest pool of blood i've ever seen accompanied by about 5 teeth on the ground...Almost barfing, I call 911....

911 girl:  'Do you know how old she is?'
LD:  'I don't know. She's really old.'
911 girl:  'What would you guess?'
LD:  'Well, she's really old.  She's gotta be atleast in her 90's.  She's old as hell.'
911 girl:  <giggling>  'Ok, so she's elderly.'

<FYI  - 911 girl sounded really cute and LD was on top of his game for the remainder of the call>

I let some other dude stick his hands in her mouth with tissues and get blood ALL over him.  I'm definately not that much of a hero.  The best part is, the lady wanted to get in her car and drive home...I'm like 'Had I seen you before you fell on your face, I would have told you you shouldn't be driving!  Look how old you are!'

So, nothing great to end the story...The paramedics came, LD slipped away and has proceeded to drink a half gallon of egg nog and half a bottle of Captain.  Running a 5K starting at 8am tomorrow...good times ahead of me...

I find easily offended people rather offensive!
