The BCS is crap.

I like the championship game, but I just looked and saw that Boston College was playing in the Gaylord Hotels Music City bowl.

You have to be kidding me.  Why would you ever want that to be the name of your hotel chain?  Gaylord?  Are you serious?

Did they pick the right 2 teams?  Maybe.  Probably.  But can anyone even fathom that Texas, USC, Alabama, Texas Tech, and even Utah, don't deserve a shot?  It's a joke.

agreed its a total sham.....all controlled by the college presidents, pbr thought it was interesting in how switzer and johnson said if psu beats usc they would have a legitemate claim as being the national champion. until a playoff whether 4, 8, 16 teams comes on board imho there is no true national champion in ncaa div I-A football....

Oh Im not saying its the right system.  But I believe the best two teams in the country are Florida and Oklahoma at this point in the season.

I think its going to be up to the schools themselves (USC, Texas, especially) to make a stand and threaten to go independent or something unless the systems change.  Or like it was talked about where someone with billions of dollars just has his own bowl series and offers the NCAA a cut.

Maybe we can have the 'Gaylord Hotels Division 1 bowl tournament'

Me thinks the GLHMCB had 2nd choice for an ACC team, so BC fans should at least feel happy that they didn't get passed over this year.  Enjoy Nashville.

Im not that happy.  Its not really the bowl itself but I like seeing them play higher ranked teams or SEC or PAC teams.  Vanderbilt is horrible.

Gro agrees the BCS is gar-bage.  They had the Big 12 commish on the OU/Mizzou broadcast and he said that (having previously been commish of the DI-AA OVC) the players enjoy the bowl system much more than a playoff.

Really? Sure, I think a early winter trip to a warm locale and free swag from bowl promoters is pretty cool... all the kids at Texas, USC, and Penn State are so happy that they don't have an evil playoff system that renders the regular season as a silly tune up. No wonder the NFL has folded....

what's that? More popular than ever? Billion dollar stadiums? you don't say.

EDIT: Bowl Schwag from last year... much better than a shot at a championship

BC outplayed their expectations this year.  They really aren't that good, so maybe Vanderbilt was a blessing in disguise.  Hopefully they can dominate Vandy and build off it for next year.  Kinda like an ECAC game.  Hopefully they don't 'mail it in' like the Upper Echelon teams of Upstate NY do.

I just hope the head coach stays.  It seems like BC is like a step up school for a lot of coaches.

Thats another problem that BC even has with the BCS.  With a playoff system, BC would have had the chance to possibly make a national tourney if they had won.  Now VA Tech plays in the Orange Bowl against Cincinatti?  That's not too exciting either.

Work Holiday Party Week(s) 101

Since TGP is feeling a bit nostalgic this morning, TGP wanted to dust off an oldie but a goodie in conjunction with the (likely) kick-off of "Holiday Party" week(s).  You all will likely all end up at some kind of happy-hour, dinner or something in the coming weeks where you will guzzle alcohol in order to stand being around your co-workers.  Please refer to the attached guide in order to gauge your intake and, when possible, report back during the next two plus weeks leading up to Xmas so the LLPP can enjoy the "scoring".

Without further ado,

Professor Enginegro's Level of Hang-over Guide to the Holidaze:
Level 1
You're fine, you wake up with the usual symptoms of dry mouth and stank breath, but all and all you can function normally during the day.

Level 2
Did I really drink that much last night? Slight headache. Takes you longer to get out of bed. Nothing a ham and cheese omelet can't fix.

Level 3
I feel like crap, this is where you start sleeping through alarms, you're late for class/work. You're able to move throughout the day but everything is in slow motion.

Level 4

Surprise! Level 4 actually starts off like level 2, you wake up, feel decent, eat something, then BAM it hits and you take your breakfast for a swim in the toilet. You're calling in sick today (or its a weekend) and you spend the day on the couch watching maury povich and drinking water. Level 4's are beatable, which means you can still muster up the strength to go out again that night.

Level 5
You wake up, look at the clock, it's 3pm. You're probably not wearing clothes and there's a good chance you have a penis drawn on you somewhere. There's a half drank bottle of beer on your nightstand, and the smell immediately throws your digestive system into 'R'. You want to eat but nothing stays down. The room slowly spins on multiple axis. You tell yourself you'll never drink again.

Level 6
Total blackout from last night. Everything hurts. You can't stand, you can't go back to sleep, and you sure as hell can't eat anything. You don't even want to eat because opening your mouth makes you want to puke. TV makes your eyes burn, the radio sounds like there's a midget on a pogo stick in your brain. You are useless. You are in a virtual coma. Don't be surprised if you throw up 4-5 times today. The chances of your rallying from a 6 are slim.

#7 The old, I SHOULD be hungover, hangover (by Lewdogg11) :
This one happens to me quite often.  You drink 'rediculas' amounts, wake up in a bush somewhere with hot sauce glued to your chin.  Stumble into bed at 4am, sleep until noon.  Wake up fearing the worst, when you realize, there is no hangover!  It's as if your one good deed of the day plunged the poisonous spirits from your very soul.  You could quite possibly still be a little drunk, and you might, just might toss back a batch of Biscuits and Gravy followed by a box of twisted tea, and onto a Corona, followed by shots of Sambuca, before 4pm.

(This hangover level has often been seen during playa hata reunions, Cancun Spring Break trips, and 36 hour gambling binges...as if the body is properly prepared for the alcohol intake)

#8 - the Dreadful 2 day hangover... basically a Level 6 that weakens in to a level 3 the next day. Also known as the weekend killer.

Please enjoy responsibly - if not, it's Level 4+ time for you!

Happy holidaze.

TGP
