US Air flight goes down in the Hudson River after hitting bird.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/01/15/new.york.plane.crash/index.html

KS watched some of the video and they did get most of the passengers off it appears.

LD11 takes this flight quite a bit.  Pretty crazy stuff...

JT flies planes of the non-jet variety for fun.  Those pilots and crew did everything textbook, and did it in mere moments.  Not tipping a wing in the water (easy to do) was the key.  Tipping a wing would have turned that big airliner into a tumbleweed.

Multiple +k to the crew and responders.

We need to start shooting Canadian Geese on a regular basis so they stay away from airports.

Thank god everyone seems to be O.K. It is amazing how a bird can disrupt a huge jet's assention into the sky. Freaking pilots were awesome! Listened to passanger speak on the news, his freaking voice was shaking non stop as he spoke. It had to be wild and scary being on that plane.

said they cleared the g.w. bridge by 900 ft. that had to freak the pilots, passengers and everyone on the bridge completely out to see that thing zipping overhead that close especially for the pilots who had no engines to power up over that thing, it was either hope to clear it or duck dive under it w/ little control of the plane...well done to the pilots and pbr is sure a scotch or two is being consumed by them tonight

one of TGP's co-workers (actually about 20, but 1 TGP actually knows personally), was on that flight.  thank goodness that pilot had the skillz.  incredible, and scary, story.

So its 9 degrees in Boston right now, which isnt that bad because there is no wind (And JU has to work ouside for part of the day).  But looking at the map it looks like its -18 in Burlington, Vt. -34 in Northern Maine, and -38 (!) in Minnesota!.

What does -38 actually feel like?

nice...it was 4 degrees at pbr's when leaving for work....and that kinda of cold sux JU no doubt about it...it truly takes your breath away, almost hurts to breath it in. coldest wind chill wise  not temps and coldest pbr has ever been was up in vt at killington when they had -60 wind chills while skiing...it was take 1 run go inside drink a hot chocolate/brandy and follow it up w/ whiskey for 1 hour then onto the lift and shot of peppermint schnaaps to burn down the inside of your throat while you came down the mountain and back inside the lodge...repeat

Cold as HECK!  I went to visit my dad in Edmonton for Christmas in 2004 and it was something like -20 below (Actual) not including the wind chill.

It is currently 47 here in the Tampa Area with a wind chill of 37.  :)

It is so funny to go out and see blankets wrapped around my neighbors palm trees.

Take it up north from Tampa to the delightful Schenectady NY and we check in at -8 with no wind. Needless to say there was no early morning run this am before work.

Cold as $&*^!

Coldest KS ever felt was when the Fish surfaced through the Polar Ice in November one year.  We were not that far from the magnetic pole and found a polyanna and surfaced through it.  KS went up to the bridge as lookout and got to be first to see the ice along with Mr. Rudder the OOD.  The temp was -30 something with about a 20 knot wind.  Even with full foul weather gear we were only allowed 15 minutes exposed at a time.  The "Doc" broke out the medicinal brandy that day on the Cap'ns orders.

Second coldest ever was Saranac Lake NY when visiting KS brother one winter.  Wind chill was about -70 that weekend.

Nice D3 mention in the Boston Globe today....

'Matt Patricia, linebackers coach - Patricia may be the next in the procession of coaching prodigies nurtured by Belichick. The 34-year-old joined the Patriots staff in 2004 as a coaching assistant and has been a quick riser. After one season as assistant offensive line coach, the former Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute offensive lineman became linebackers coach in 2006. This season, when Pees spent two games in the coaches' booth, Patricia was on the sideline relaying the defensive calls. Patricia also received credit from inside linebacker Jerod Mayo, the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year, for spending extra time in the classroom with Mayo.'

Mike Holley is always talking about Patricia on WEEI.  Patricia also has a lot of offensive experience as well so I wouldnt be suprised to see him in the head coaching ranks in the next few years.
