In case anyone from LLPP, Inc plans on being in Las Vegas for the Superbowl...

They really need to crank up the cover charge for single men to like $250.  All I can see is a bunch of old overweight pervs looking for Playboy bunnies, except the only girls there, other than the hired ones of course, look like this...

So RT was in Troy on Sat to speak to some RPI football recruits and their parents. The event was up at the new stadium where RT, along w/ the kids and parents, got an inside tour of the joint including locker room, weight room, training facility, etc.

OMG....seriously....RT doesn't know what to say. It's not done yet but you could totally get the idea from this phase of where construction is at. Including Cortland St, which has been hailed as one of the nicest D3 facilities in the country, this new setup at RPI should top them all when it's done.  It is ridiculaz....when you combine these new facilities along w/ the quality of education, it would be a travesty if RPI isn't getting some of the top recruits in the Northeast who fit the profile. This new stadium and facilities are so nice that RT struggled taking it all in on Sat and had to adjust his comments to the kids accordingly after seeing it...and it's not even done yet!!

RT tries to avoid excessive hyberbole or hype...but this place is going to be the REAL DEAL. As much as RT will miss 'ol 86 field, he's stoked to get the ball rolling with the new digs.

The committment to the facilities is obviously there, and it should help bring in the kids. Much better sales pitch then back in the day when I was given a tour of '87 gym's weightroom (aka dungeon).

But have recruiting budgets and manpower been increased? That will still be very necessary to bring in talented players.  It also helps to buy kid's mom a new house or their dad a new tractor.

KS is reading Tom Clancys "Executive Orders".  In the book Jack Ryan becomes President.  One scene has him greeting and congratulating the Mighty Ducks for winning the Stanley Cup.  He mentions that the Director of the CIA's son is a pretty good HS hockey player and is deciding on a school.  He mentions the kid also wants to be an engineer, at this point the captain of the ducks leans over tells the president to recommend Rensselaer.

TC has always been a big fan of RPI. I had heard that he once did some kind of guest lecture there...

SRT, saw the new digs in person albiet from afar last week.  Any inside info that this place will might not  or absolutely will be be ready by Aug/Sept?  I know all parties concerned have insisted that '09 is a go in the new facility but as a resident of a state with the big dig I am always skeptical that any large construction project actually follows the projected timeline.

latest "unofficial" word I have heard is 9/1. Doesn't look like RPI will be doing preseason on the field but that it will be ready to go for home opener.

Now having said that, from RT's vantage it looks as though the hard hats have their work cut out for them. RT doesn't have a construction background but his untrained eye sees that there's alot left to go. Nothing is in it's finished form yet on any part of the project.....but it still looks impressive. However, RT doesn't know enough about how this stuff goes to know whether or not they're doing well against, from a progress perspective, their target date.  For example, how much does weather impact construction projects like this? The cold and snow wouldn't seem to affect the inside stuff (locker room, weight room, training room, pressbox, etc) but there's still a fair amount of outside work to do. RT has no idea on how big the crew is or how many different people are working at once.

In any event, it looks like work is moving at a good pace. RT feels like RPI will get it done....the only thing that RT is disappointed in is that all the artist renditions showed a full stadium with concrete stands on both sides. Turns out, RT heard that RPI is going to bring the stands from '86 up to be used for the visitor stands.

Gro predicts there is a 25% chance that the stadium is not complete by the season opener. There will be exposed structual steel from an entire unfinished section of the stands.  Nevertheless, President Jackson will address the crowd (and opposing team, most likely castleton state) before the game and declare...

Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station!  uh... I mean LET'S GO RED!

probably not a bad predicition. A good indicator will be to see what kind of shape they keep '86 in as a backup...if it were RT, he'd keep it in 'emergency recall' status in case they need to move the party. It would be nice to have a 3rd "last game on '86".

Wouldn't you want that ECAC win to be the ABSOLUTE last game on that field?  To play one or two more games there......ehhh.  I would think as an alumn, the way it would currently end is perfect.

If you get greedy, the field could close up with a loss to Endicott.....YIKES.

Very nice. RPI is quite deserving of this and this must be very exciting to be an RPI engineer right now! I think this weekend I am going to take a ride to Troilet and check this out. RPI has been a class act program over the years and this is fitting. Now if they could drop Endicott and Utica and play some serious OOC teams then the potential for this program would go through the roof! Congrats to RPI and it's new facility! I look forward to checking it out and even though I am a bitter RPI rival this deserves to be talked up as a serious positive. It is great for the players and the RPI community!

Maybe this facility will even bring some more attractive females to the campus and break that 500 guys to 1 girl ratio.

RT was saying that tongue-in-cheek.....the Alfred game was definitely the way to send '86 off. RT was thinking of the scenario where there's another "last" game there. Kind of reminiscent of Kiss's annual "Farewell" tour during the mid/late 1990's....
