I agree with LD, HOF means you were among the best, not upstanding citizens.  I wonder how many of these writers and talking heads are clean?  How many are using speed or coke to meet deadlines or stay awake to chase a story?

if they all get in LD then pete rose should get in...

I think Pete Rose is a Hall of Famer too.  Just because he gambled on games does NOT take away from his numbers.  Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Cy Young, those guys were scum bags.  No one has a problem with them in the Hall of Fame.

I think they will let Petey in someday.

its a joke rose isnt in there...there are plenty in the hall who have done bad things yet they make rose wait.

It's not like Pete Rose was shaving points or going half ass to lose on purpose.  The guy went balls to the wall 100% of the time.  If his gambling affected games, that would be a problem, and he probably wouldn't have hall of fame #'s either, but to my knowledge, he never bet against his own team and he never did anything to do anything but win a game.

What's worse, betting on your team to win, or hitting the sauce and cheating to be good for yourself?

SaintsFAN

as a Cincy resident, SF agrees that Pete should be in the Hall.

BUT... his betting also took place when he was the Manager of the Reds and eventhough he wouldn't bet AGAINST the Reds, he bet for them enough that his silence on days when he didn't bet ...was just as good as betting against them.

He should be in the Hall... his son?  Piece of 'ish Hall... if there was one.

I HATE A-Rod, however, I think him admitting using was a very wise decision.  They call out these 'Witch Hunts' of Bonds and Clemens.  It's because they won't admit it and they are cowards.  Giambi?  No one cares anymore.  Petitte?  No one cares anymore.  People will care about A-Rod, but atleast he admitted it.  It's a huge step.

Now that being said, I hate hearing about it not being 'illegal' in major league baseball.  Yes, they weren't banned substances, but aren't steroids illegal in general?  Steroids have been frowned upon in sports wayyyy before 2000.  Just because MLB didn't have a policy doesn't make it right.  However, admitting it was the right thing to do.

Should Clemens be in the HOF?  Yes.
Should Maguire be in the HOF?  Yes.
Should Bonds be in the HOF?  Yes.
Should A-Rod be in the HOF?  Yes.

These guys would have been Hall of Famers before they hit the sauce.  Unfortunately, their legacy is shattered now because they were selfish scumbags.

I do NOT believe steroids improve your hand eye coordination to the extent that you all of sudden are an incredible athlete.  I've seen plenty of bean heads who can pick cars up with one arm, that are the worst athletes known to man.  That talent was there well before the juice kicked in.  It's such a vicious circle though, because the juice just made them more healthy at times when the others were maybe tired or injured or sore or hungover, or had huge weeners to carry around, instead of little baby carrot sticks...

Sorry LD you da man but I think you are way off on this. You do the juice, you cheat you sure as hell don't deserve recognition that will last through the ages. That recognition belongs to the guys who did not cheat, who played the game the right way period. I am not saying the roids weren't part of the culture, I am not saying everyone was doing it, I am not saying the league, teams , and ownership didn't encourage it or at least not discourage it, I am not saying that roids even made these players all that much better. I am saying these millionaire bitches who are getting paid to play a ****ing game should not get life long recognition as heroes in the HOF when they took a short cut that many others before them did not and would not take. If we let them in the hall then we might as well just give those illegal cornholes all of Roger Barnetts money.

OK. I'll bite.
I think whoever owns "the list" should burn that immediately.  Isn't there a statute of limitations here?

On a positive note, at least it got the news focused on something besides the economy crumbling around us for like 3 minutes.

Although Bman does not agree with all of LDs comments, his point is that cheating has been going on in baseball since it's inception...the methods have become more sophisticated, the impact on on the player's physique is greater...but it's all relative to each age...

tru dat it is true that cheating has been going on in Baseball forever but I just get pissed about how much money these cornholes make and how many free passes they get. I honestly don't give a **** what a-rod or your friendly neighborhood McGuire puts into his body. I just give a **** when they get to do something obviously wrong, get caught, laugh, make another million, and then get into the HOF ( that's really the only repercussion we can give them is to take away the HOF like in McGuire's case) ya know? To me that parallels some really messed up ****. I mean years ago ball players didn't make this much money, most worked other jobs in the off-season. I to see some of doggs point, I just want to say FU to these guys for doing something wrong the only way I and/or we can. Aside from HOF they are really untouchable. Look at Vick dude will be (if he is not already) in a half-way house by the end of this month. As a teacher I can only think about what would happen to me for doing half of that. I guess I am soap boxing a bit. **** wonder why?

If he gambled against his team it would have affected his numbers negatively.  How much?  Who knows for sure but he might not be Petey Hustle, he might be Petey Jog To Third Instead of Diving From Shortstop.
