Just got an email from a friend of mine with a pretty interesting rumor. Apparently, Ithaca, RIT and Nazareth are going to leave the Empire 8 and join the Liberty League.

Anyone else hear anything about this?

Interesting....IMO, the LL is more of a basketball league anyway as far as configurations go.  Union, RPI and Hobart are similar in that football and hockey seem to be the focus (obviously, Hobart also excels in lax and is not D1 in hockey).

I'm not wild about the potential additions of more non-football schools, but I don't understand all the logistics.

I havent heard anything about that but it does make perfect sense.

Fantastic news for me if I can take a few day trips to Union or RPI each year.

In a few months, you will have the opportunity to drive to lovely Schenectady to watch the Dutchmen throttle the Hell out of the Bombers.

Heard it from a pretty reliable source that this was going to happen for the 2010-2011 season. I like it though I'd imagine it'd be a scheduling nightmare with an 11-team conference.

Here here U89 well said!!! I have been talking it up with many as of late and I know the U is looking forward to Ithaca this fall under the lights. I think the U will give them a nice taste of what to expect when the bombers join the LL in 2010. Overall if this addition does take place I think it is fantastic for the LL to add a team of Ithaca's caliber and reputation. You immediately creat a mid-state rivalry between Bart and Ithaca and the three headed monster of the LL grows a fourth. This addition may sway the conference into the best the East has to offer year in and year out. We shall see.

Adding Ithaca to the LL would be a slight improvement over Susquehanna.

Me thinks the conference jumping has just begun. The dominoes could fall like this:

1.) Springfield and WPI could join the NAC or another NE based conference.
B.) A few NY private schools join the LL (Could be Ithaca, Alfred, SJF, Wick)
8.) The E8 takes in the SUNY schools to fill out their conference

p.s. NO, there will not be a "super NY" conference. Do you really want all the NY teams boiled down to one Pool A and maybe a Pool C bid?
