classic! sounds like a teenager today from the "i'm entitled and doing nothing generation ...." pbr cant believe what this world is coming to and how lazy some people are getting...get off your azz girl and get to work your 27 freakin' years old you should know better than to look for a free hand out!!! your an adult and college graduate find a job yourself and dont always rely on everyone else!

NEW YORK, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- A 27-year-old Monroe College graduate is suing the
New York school, contending it has done little to help her find a job.
Trina Thompson, who graduated in April with a bachelor's degree, alleges in a
Bronx Supreme Court lawsuit that she did not receive adequate employment leads
and advice from the school's office of career advancement, the New York Post
reported Sunday.
"They have not tried hard enough to help me," the information technology degree
graduate alleges in the July 24 suit.
Thompson's mother, Carol, agreed  Monroe College officials simply did not equip
her daughter for gainful employment following her graduation.
"She's angry," Thompson's mother told the Post. "She's very angry at her
situation. She put all her faith in them, and so did I. They're not making an
effort."
Monroe spokesman Gary Axelbank labeled the lawsuit, which is seeking the
$70,000 worth of tuition Thompson paid the school, was without merit.

PBR-  Every company that this woman touches is going to be dancing with lawsuits.  Hopefully HR is googling people before handing out offer letters.

Can you imagine the risk!?

I actually hope that Monroe College gives her back her $70k in tuition and Monroe KEEPS HER DIPLOMA....or did she think she gets to have her cake and eat it too?

dlippiel has very little if any compassion for colleges and universities across the USA right now. He feels they realize the "need" for an education today and continue to jack up their bull**** admission costs to take advantage of as many people as possible. Yet you have got to be kidding dlippiel on this one. dlippiel concurrs, give her the 70k, take the diploma back, and tell her to have even more fun finding a job!

Ok heres a financial question for LLPP from an unexperienced stockman.

If someone buys 100K (7,220 shares at 13.85) of Bank of America stock right now.  How is it possible to lose that money?  Or I guess the question I should ask is, What are the chances that Bank of America stock does not rise above $14?

Or what if you did the same with Ford Motors? Buying 100K (13,513 shares at $7.40)

Pumpkin when should I put my 100K in!!!!

The Rev checked out Monroe College's website and found that they have an opening for an IT person.  If the woman just finished a degree in IT, why didn't she apply at her own school?  This is the kind of person who probably won't take a job unless she thinks it is good enough for her.  The Rev has taken many jobs that were "beneath him" because when you are hungry, ain't nothing beneath you.  Rev's first job upon return to the U.S. in 2001 for graduate school: making sandwiches in the airport sub shop.  Led to building flight simulators because Rev used the opportunity to network with the engineers who came in for lunch.  This chick obviously has no clue how to deal...with life.

On the other hand, the Rev is a little sympathetic to recent graduates who are having a tough time finding work.  Colleges have been promising applicants high-paying jobs when they graduate.  They talk down the negatives of students loans and only stress that the loans are worth it because the vast increase in salary will offset the debt obligation.  There was a boom in the education market just as in the housing market.

Artificially low interest rates, non-existent lending standards, price increases in the teen-percentages, have all lead toward a generation of kids that were basically duped into paying too much for too little.

Part of the problem is that kids are going to colleges as if they are vocational schools, they go to school to learn a trade, and "to get a good job."  Having a good job is important, but since all of the Rev's friends who worked hard and became rich did not do so in their major field, The Rev thinks there is little correlation between university and success.  Or, if there is a correlation, it is something outside the classroom that shapes one's success...such as football, or fraternity, or something else that presents a challenge that one must overcome with the help of friends.

The chick in question probably did nothing except go to class forgetting that a big part of college is learning to deal with people.  It probably never dawned on her that she was spending $30K a year to punch her clock in the classroom, but to do the actually learning outside of it.

Someone -K The Rev for being a hater.  I hate this chick and her trick-ass school.

Good stuff there Rev,

A good friend of JU dropped out of college as a junior and went to work as a busboy at a local college resturant.  10 years later the kid is a general manager for an international restaruant chain pulling down six figures+.

Knightstalker

KS best friend Sam the Butcher was told that if he didn't graduate HS and go to college in 70 he would amount to nothing.  He has been a Meat Manager for three or four different supermarket chains, store manager for two different chains and is now a regional coordinator for a big supermarket chain pulling down well over 100K.

KS went to school for music, KS works in IT because KS is good at it, KS has never taken an IT or computer science course in his life.

One big thing that colleges and universities do not teach well is how to write a resume, how to write a cover letter and how to apply for a job.  This should be taught in HS and college.  Trade schools do a better job of preparing you for life than most colleges and universities.

Wonder how many NYC employers now have her on a do not hire list? JT just added her to his. She's been added to all those others who have been profiled in local papers as "enjoying unemployment" and not in a hurry to get a job.

How stupid are these people?

Now JT took the opportunity to travel and have a little fun in 1991 after losing his first post college job due to recession, but why advertise.

He did substitute teach... and filled the unemployment gap in between traveling and screwing around.

AMAZING!!!

KS, what is it with Music majors and IT?  I have TWO friends, one HS, the other Hobart, who were music majors and now make a GOOD living doing IT.

Very interesting.  You are now the third.

Carry on...

As a guitarist I was drawn to IT by the music technology, the recording software, sequencing software, keyboards etc.  I also know several former music majors who teach math and science now.  It is all related.  Plus most musicians are very patient, you have to be to practice and learn a piece of music, whether classical, jazz, rock or blues it takes patience.  Patience is also very useful in life.

I'm just giving you the investment thesis.  You asked what are the odds that B of A won't be higher five yeras from now.  If you want tto be a trader, then go ahead.  I know guys with MBA's from Wharton and PhD's from MIT who've lost money on many trades as professional money managers (they've happened to made more winning bets than losers over their career however).  Trading , to me, is no different than going to Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods and hitting the blackjack tables.  I subscribe to the Robert Schiller theory that you have semi-perfect information in the market so there's no way to know what news will impact stocks in what way.  I'm a discounted cash flow kind of guy with a longer term horizon.  Oddly enough, Ford is expected to show increased sales for the first time in a while and  the market is expecting a sell off tomorrow (in Ford).  The only advice I can give for trading is protect yourself with options (e.g. if you go long, buy puts or sell calls, to lower your cost basis, but riskier because the loss on the call is potentially unlimited vs. buying a put where your downside is the cost of the option).

Rev-

I appreciate your rant about education...I agree with you for the most part and to be quite honest, you have me rethinking a few things.

Universities are driving up tuition because they can is kind of BS.  The market has dictated that anyone who wants to do anything will probably need a decent college name on their resume and Universities have taken full advantage of that by increasing tuition and their "avg starting salaries".  Are those really average?...or just the average of the students with sweet jobs that responded?

I disagree with your point about paying too much for too little.  I think it also has to do with kids that for the most part had a lot handed to them.  In my mind, once you get your name on a diploma and walked the walk, now it's the skill of the individual to "talk the talk".  So, to recap, are people paying too much for degrees?  Yes....  Do companies just give out corner offices and 75G's because you have "Dickenson" written across the top of your diploma, NO

I learned more in our group projects, playing football and during summer internships than I did in the classroom.

BAC may be risky due to their scrambling to find a replacement for Lewis (namely the Sallie Krawcheck move), probably will be slow to gain any more momentum until the new management team finds its legs. Ford may have some good pop to it the next few days due to the fact that they are government free and posted a positive sales number for once.

Tags' two cents.
