I will admit that I am an eagles fan (most likely would not be if i lived anywhere close to philly) and I'm not sure how I feel about the vick signing.  It certainly gives them some sick options at the skilled positions. I just hope it doesnt become to much of a circus

On a side note driving around this am listening to boston radio i think its funny how everyone has been calling in and saying how tom brady is the 2nd coming of christ.  I think according to them brady is at gillette right now curing blind child of there afflictions with a simple touch on the forehead.  Said typical boston fans are highlighted in this movie

God I can't stand WEEi.  So happy I don't have to listen to it here.  The radio stations in boston suck so bad that WEEI is all you can listen to.

Spot on on that one sucka...i find myself sometimes just shutting off the radio all together.
On the run from johny law...aint no trip to clevland

I don't listen to regular radio anyway.  Sirius is still where it's at.  Atleast their NFL channel is a little more open-minded and not full of Boston/NY Superfans.

dlippiel goes away for a day and comes back to find pages worth of discussion. Well dlippiel is a Broncos fan and has also offically become an avid anti Eagles fan as of today. dlippiel's two cents are as follows. In dlippiel's opinion Vick is a piece of **** through and through. dlippiel can't understand how people are letting this asshole off the hook. Here is what dlippiel means. dlippiel has done stupid **** before (not this bad) but stupid. Hence he believes that people deserve second chances at life. He believes that even though Vick is inherently a piece of **** he served his time and derserves another chance....at life not professional football! See to dlippiel playing a professional sport is a priveldge not a ****ing job. When playing a professional sport, one, is one of the very few human beings alive, lucky enough (not saying they don't have to work hard because they do) to play a game and make millions of ****ing dollars doing it. When one throws dogs who lost a fights into garbage cans full of water and electrocutes them one or allows it to go on on their property, clearly (in dlippiel's opinion) they should not have the good fortune to play a sport for a living and make millions of dollars. dlippiels does feel thought that Vick did serve his time and deserves another chance at life. Let this piece of **** get a real job, like real people, and have the opportunity to become a decent member of the community again. To allow this ************ to play in the NFL again in front of millions is a travesty. Hence dlippiel will root for this clown to actually get vibrated if and when he steps on the field each and every snap and root for the Eagles to lose every ****ing game they play (which is a shame because dlippiel loves Mcnabb). Anyway many may disagree and thats cool but dlippiel is pissed and wanted to rant about this caged ****ing animal.

This isn't intramural football we are talking about.  It's professional football.  It IS a career for some people.  If Mike Vick was a computer programmer, should he not be allowed to get a new job as a computer programmer after he serves his sentence, or since he's good at that and made good money, he should have to go bag groceries right?

And there is the whole southern culture where you simply grow up in an enviornment where dog fighting, cockfighting, hunting, trapping etc is a part of your day-to-day life.

In my neverending quest to defend Dixie to IC, I just heard a report that the President of the Philly Humane Soceity is happy about the Vick signing because Philly has the highest rate of dogfighting in the US and he wants Vick to work as a spokesman.

I haven't looked for the story online to confirm any of that though.

Instead of Southern I should have said "backwoods".  Although dogfighting and cockfighting is a problem in the urban northeast as well.
yes its true actually vick has been criss crossing the country speaking out on behalf of the humane society...working/speaking w/ inner city kids and people to not do this...its peta that has come out against vick still. philly chapter of humane was at the presser and supports vick and the work he is doing.

I'm with LD DLip.  Just because his job happens to be on TV doesn't mean it is any different from your job.  Maybe the guy is still a bad dude, who knows.  But, being a bad person will only keep you out of a very limited number of jobs and, much to the chagrin of every self-loathing sportswriter ever, professional sports is not one of those jobs.

My point exactly dogg (by the way dlippiel loves the cat pic!). Professional football isn't intramural football it's professional football and when one plays it (a game) they make ****ing millions of dollars to play this game. A computer programer doesn't make that much in 10 years. If he was a computer programmer he most likely lose his job because of having to go to jail. As well as any other profession. dlippiel is a teacher, if he did what Vick did dlippiel would not only lose his job he would lose his teaching license and hence most of the value of his education. Hence dlippiel would probably have to bag ****ing groceries. See dogg so many people miss the point here. Vick should get a chance to work and be a part of society. **** he may acutally have learned something here BUT it is a priveldge to play a sport for MILLIONS of dollars. **** in todays economy it would even be a priveldge to have a computer programming job, which one would lose if he electorcuted ****ing dogs in cans of water. dlippiel admits he has tunnel vision on this but just feels societites priorities are ****ed and this is a perfect example of one reason why.

Why do I feel like people are more forgiving to those that hurt, shoot, kill, whatever, other HUMANS, than when someone hurts/kills animals?  I mean:

OJ
Stallworth
Ray Lewis
Marvin Harrison
Pacman Jones
Tank Johnson
Jason Kidd

dlippiel would go around speaking about ****ing anything to anyone if it was going to allow him to make millions playing a game. Actualy dlippiel wouldn't but is making the point that by Vick doing this does not tell us ****. Right now this bitch would wear a dog suit at a kennel to be able to play again.

dlippiel is not and these names represent an aspect of our society that is so ****ed up. Famous people, especially atheletes can do almost anything they want and face very minimal consequences or at least much less serious consequences than you or dlippiel.

DUDE, it's a game to me and you.  It's NOT a game to them.  it's their career!!!  It's not a 'privilege' to play a sport.  Some can do it.  Some can't.  Some who can do, the rest who can't, watch it for sport.

JQV

The money argument is a red herring.  Pro athletes get paid millions of dollars because we all enjoy watching them play and spend our money to do so.  They do not get paid because of some mythical privilege.

Teachers have morality clauses in their contracts because they stand in loco parentis.  Professional athletes do not.  Therefore, a professional athlete's personal life is unrelated to his or her professional competence.

I'm gonna go on a limb here and say that dlip is a hardcore Republican.

There was outrage over each of these events too but it always passes with time (and further athletic success).  In the end, if there is an unsavory guy on your favorite team, and that guy helps your club win games, you suck it up and root for him.  I am guilty of this.

I thought this guy was an ass:

Loved this guy:

Then hated this guy and thought his act was tired:

The issue isn't just giving a man a second chance.  Part of it is the owners having to weigh the pluses or minuses of signing certain players.  I think that is why the Pats did not sign Vick.  Would the distraction be worth it?  Thats the question that teams face.

Vick's criminal past will probably have no effect on how he plays in the future.  If he was a drug, alcohol, or cronic criminal like Pacman then I think thats a worse problem for a team looking to sign him.  But thats not the problem with Vick.

But I don't think many people had been forgiving of OJ LD.
