The money argument is a red herring.  Pro athletes get paid millions of dollars because we all enjoy watching them play and spend our money to do so.  They do not get paid because of some mythical privilege.

Teachers have morality clauses in their contracts because they stand in loco parentis.  Professional athletes do not.  Therefore, a professional athlete's personal life is unrelated to his or her professional competence.

+K to Jose for a clear and concise argument.  The Rev thinks these things, but as soon as The Rev starts typing, the once clear ideas morph into 2 page semi-coherent rants.

consider gro's arm twisted... kickoff purchased. That $10 is less purple drank that I don't need anyway.

Note to LLPP: DO NOT do a google image search for "twist my arm"... seriously WTF?

You can't do that to me, 'Gro.  That's like saying, "Don't turn around and look at that fit asian bird behind you."  You know we all have to go to Google now.

Not to rag on you guys, because I love this board, but I found something interesting in the way Kickoff sales have gone so far -- Union last year was in our top 10 among schools' fan bases for sales and so far this year: Zero.

If you know Union fans, just spread the word a bit. That's all I hope for. Somewhere in the Top 100 would be cool.

Won't talk about RPI fans. Union fans win that battle every year. :)

I was planning on buying it the day it comes out, like the last few years.  Manage the float, you know.

dlippiel is on his way Pat. Each day dlippiel is like "I'll just sign up now, well maybe later after this post, ummmmm after this next post.... it will happen and dlippiel actually can't wait to check out kickoff. It is one of the aspects of d3.com that dlippiel always looks forward to!

You know it is interesting (*dlippiel promises he will let this go after this last post ;D) last evening dlippiel and Ms. dlippiel went to a friends and BBQ'ed. For some reason dlippiel spent most of the evening thinking about the LLPP discussion. dlippiel thinks that he may have over-stepped here and been a little self-rightous and unfair. As much as dlippiel does feel societies priorities are out of whack but second chances are huge, (god knows dlippiel has gotton one), and dlippiel is currently tossing his thoughts of "priveldge" around and rethinking it. dlippiel is not backing down here and being a pussy. dlippiel just really feels many on the LLPP made some very good points and really have dlippiel thinking about this issue. dlippiel thinks it is really cool that through a discussion here he was able to actually see a different perspective, reflect on it, and start to formulate some new thoughts. dlippiel still hasn't reached a full conclusion but is thankful for the insightful discussion here on the llpp yesterday. thanks guys +k to the last full two pages!

JU likes to see where Ithaca is ranked before he buys the kickoff package.

Kidding of course, but sadly I have only bought it once.  I will also purhcase it this year.

RE: Vick Discussion

I am a teacher and agree that Vick deserves another chance.  Yes, if I did what he did then I would probably never teach again.  But teaching is one of a few jobs where your personal life can affect your professional life in that way.  Pro athlete is not.

Also, I find it funny that dlippiel found the need to put *** in words like ****ing and other curses but was ok typing out the words ****sucker and ***hole (I added the *** he didn't).  LOL   :D

dlippiel's potty mouth is censored automatically and he believes sometimes thankfully. ;D

dlippel there is no right or wrong answer here.  If an NFL owner doesn't want to hire Vick because of Vick's past he has the legal right not to hire him.  As long as the owner doesn't discriminate on some other basis (age, race, gender) then the owners have the right to hire whomever they want.

Let's say Vick was a plumber and did the same thing.  If the owner of the plumbing company that Vick worked for didn't like what Vick did, he doesn't have to hire him.  But Vick's plumbing skills aren't going to be effected by the crime he committed.

And let me say I wanted to see Vick run a Wildcat offense this year somewhere.  I was interested to see if there was an NFL coach out there that is able to put this offense together and make it work well.  And Vick is probably the best QB in the history of the game that could make that offense work.  As a regular QB (for the falcons), Vick wasn't really a top 10 QB in the league (maybe 10th-15th)

You are right... society is way out of wack.  Those idiots at PETA are coming out with statements describing exactly what Vick did to those dogs.  Leave it alone already..

How does one go to work for PETA... and why?  Their lives revolve around ethical treatment of gerbils and is probably a big reason why they act like such a-holes.

SF came into the office today to make up for the afternoon taken off yesterday and wow... 4 pages of good 'ish.

That a way saintsFAN and Utah for representing the LLPP on the OAC board. Even though the dude most likely was playing it just goes to show, using the words of the mighty WU-TANG CLAN, the LLPP "...ain't nothin to $#&% wit!"

LLPP maybe is a little of this:

And a little of that:

'gro

Anyone watching this year's season of hard knocks on HBO?  They seem to follow the same formula every year but it's still a great show.  Follow 1-2 veterans (Ochocinco, Palmer), draft pick(s) (Rey Maualuga, Andre "Titties" Smith), and then a few guys on the bottom of the 80 man roster. If you didn't get a little something in your eye when that guy went down with a ruptured achilles then something may be wrong with you.

Gro thinks they could expand this show and follow 2-3 teams each year instead of 1. Put the shows on different nights, you know you'd watch it.

No biggie for JT.  JT has seen plenty of people get bigger passes than Vick.  If Vick spends a lot of time telling kids "Don't be like me" and what happens when you try and cover it up, he'll do good things.
