JT finally has a new design for http://www.rowanfootball.com/dev.  He's turning it into a blog.  Found a free wordpress newspaper template and modified it.  

The old site is seven years old... very tired looking, manually intensive, and with JT's schedule, hard to keep updated.  Now programming improvement/updates are free and future templates are free or low cost. Plus people are always designing new widgets.

Also it will be more interactive since people can comment.  Will link to the old site and convert old data over time.

What does the LLPP think?

On a side note, U89 thinks your 'test' posts are working.....

The guy who designed the base template encrypted the footer with spammy links to "unsavory" sites not suitable for promotion of a college football team.  He was probably getting paid for creating backlinks.

I tried contacting him to pay for a clean footer to no avail.  Then I also discovered his template site is registered via proxy, which means I'd have no contact info.  I am not about to pay someone without and address, email, and phone number.  Also other people have tried to pay him with no success.

The footer also affected Random News and Recent Responses, so I couldn't just make a plain footer, I had to decrypt it.  Each test comment is the result of a decryption that didn't completely work.... the random news and recent responses didn't update correctly.  Which is why I had so many tests.

I finally fully decrypted the footer.  I credit him for the initial design, but by law he cannot require me to have spammy links on my site.  Spammy links are also a Google no-no.

That's really sharp. Better than some schools' athletics sites, I'd say.

The major thing is finding a template you dig, then change the color scheme via the style sheets (there is usually style.css and maybe a couple of minor ones like tabs.css), and recoloring some graphics via Photoshop.

Windows grep program is great for helping you find all the occurrences of things you want to ID or change.  I think its a free program.

Many times I was just copying html colors from the style sheet in photoshop to see what color it was then I'd change it, upload the file to the server to see if anything changed.
