Game notes for Hobart/Dick are out:

http://hwsathletics.com/documents/2009/9/11/2009-0912%20Dickinson%20Game%20Notes.pdf

Some thoughts on the two deep listed (for what that's worth, its not always accurate):

Vella is the starter w/transfer Earl #2, so it looks like Rose from Victor isn't expected to play this year barring injury.

No Marlier or Schulz.  I hope neither have any significant injury.  Schulz is replaceable because all the other receivers came back from last year, so having Vincent, Muratori and Schetting as the top three  is still strong.  Sort of concerned about Marlier because I thought he was going to have a big year after he seemed to get stronger in the playoffs (even though his MUC stats may look light, he ran tough).

The #1 RB is Pat Julian, a spread QB at Sauquoit Valley two years ago.  He had a bunch of big rushing games as QB there (couple of 300 yd games), but last year he played slot and battled injuries.  Looks like he added a few lbs too, which is good.  Tritten is #2.  Surprised Julian beat out Tritten, but he must have earned it so I look forward to seeing what they both can do.

FB is Matt Howard over former starting OL Andrew Miller.  That spot is a ? mark.

On Defense, nothing surprising except maybe that FR Klindera isn't in the 2 deep at ILB.  I had heard good things about him.  One FR in the entire 2 deep, which is good.  I actually think the team D is going to be better than last season.  The front four has three returning starters and one DT who got significant time in rotation the last two years.  The OLB's are three year and two years starters (having Fernando Jones back after a year away is also good).  At ILB, Ill be interested to see what happens.  I think OLaughlin is going to blow up this year.  He had that strong rookie season and guys have come out of no where in the past like Hager as a JR and Hoffman as a SR.  Reggie Robinson is a talented and tough kid who was hurt a bit last year.  The secondary will be rock solid with three year starter Szymanski, Woodard and Kelliher (who I was a maniac on special teams last year and played a bit a safety in meaningful minutes).

The dickinson game is going to be tough and I think Bart's keys are controlling the LOS and having a rushing advantage.

Will Mr.Rossi be over in the press box? Maybe dlip will pop over and say hello, you know introduce himself if that is cool. Of course he could always give his two cents on air as to the U's strengths and what they will need to do to make the 09 opener a success ;). In all seriousness dlip would love to serve the U somehow, especially through radio or some other outlet. Maybe someday far in the future it could happen. For right now he is enjoying carrying on the 20 + year Lippiello tradition of being a local yocal who loves his local college football team and supports them unconditionally. dlip and Mr. rlip will be sitting by the frat house in our lawn chairs (as we have been since 1984) with dlip putting chairs out roughly between 9-10am to make sure they get the best possible spot. Others may join tomorrows festivities which dlip looks forward to. Can't even describe how excited dlip is for tomorrows opener at the magnificant Frank Bailey Field. Hopefully the ****ing cannon will be firing left and right for the Dutch. dlip feels that the Dutch might just register themselves as a serious fixture for the 09 campaign tomorrow. The d-line and line backing core must congest the middle and make the Bomber O line work very hard throughout. If the U gives up ground from the run off the bat things could get bad. Secondary reads will play a huge factor as well. Grastorf has some very serious poise and ability to read and react with precision passing. Without pressure and a somewhat shut down running game Ithaca may put up some serious points. The U secondary must have steller coverage to make Grastorf take more than one look from the pocket. *Most important the U O must sustain drives throughout. Three and outs will kill the U's D. Much of the 25 PPG average from last year came from being worn down from being on the field so damn much. There were times last season U made some serious stands, garnered momentum, get the ball back to the O only to be right ****ing back out on the field after three to four minutes. Either way it is just fantastic that the D3 season is here and wishes all the student athletes luck tomorrow. Hopefully no injuries ad great football. Of course if dlip ever did serve the U in any capacity he would most likely have to clean up his mouth.

+1k....you're not a 'local yokal'.....D3 football needs more people like you.

Thanks U89 dlip appreciates it, +k back at you. Let's go U today!

Very big news re Marlier.

Not sounding too good for Bart right now.  Dickinson drove it all the way from their own 11 yd line and just scored.  7-0 Red Rockets.

The Rev is not a big fan of the opponents doing 89 yard drives.

You of all folks should have faith, Rev.  We were knocking on the door first but fumbled a sure scoring opportunity away.  Hobart's back on the move.  Hopefully the Statesmen tie it up before the half.

The Rev thinks he is a long-distance jinx.  Last time The Rev listened to a game, Hobart was losing.  The Rev turned off the game and the Statesmen came back to win.

The Rev is thinking it may be time for bed (it is 2:30 am here, after all) and let the Statesmen win while The Rev sleeps.

PBR...

ouch todays game should quiet down the ithaca crowd thats for sure....

labart96

Sorry Rev.  Even your going to bed didn't help our Statesmen.  The defense ran out of gas coughing up 200+ yards rushing to the Devils in the second half after losing the TOP battle by almost 18-12.  I've posted my post-game commentary on my blog (http://gohobart.blogspot.com/) if you (or any other LLPPer) is interested.

Certainly not the start we hoped for but there's still a lot of football to be played.  Will look forward to listening into tomorrow night's ITH to hear RT and Frank's takes on this weekend's games (as well as chime in where TGP can).

Hard to believe Bart has joined Rochester in the 0-fer basement in the LL standings, but it's only Week 2.

Happy to make it rain with a few Hamiltons to ease the pain of the whooping the Bombers are bringing to wine country.

Lack 'O respect for the Dutchmen on the front page too.....'Which ranked team has the greatest potential to lose thier opening game?'

No opportunity to even vote for Ithaca......U89 realizes this is not Ithaca's 1st game, but why even add that snippet in the question?

Union 28
Ithaca 24

Pretty solid prediction, if U89 does say so himself.....

Fantastic performance by both teams today.  Union dominated the 1st half, while the Bomber's came out on fire in the 2nd.  Ithaca is very explosive....they had difficulty maintaining long drives, but had a number of long gains and TD's.

Union controlled the ball and maintained their composure.  In the last couple years, Union may have lost intensity once the tide started to turn towards Ithaca.....not today, very impressive final drive to close it out.

I really think this is going to be a big year for Union.  Next week vs. Salisbury will be another very tough OOC game.

dlip can't even begin to say how exciting today was. dlip is still so excited he won't give game comments here until tomorrow. dlip usually stays quite composed during games...not this ****ing one! dlip actually crossed the police line and cheered his ass off when Coney scored with about 19 sec left. Great ****in day. Frank it was a pleasure to meet you.
