I kind of wanted Florida to win this game 80-0.  But now Im kind of pulling for Tenn.

Anything else you'd like to flip flop on today?

Side rant.

Tim Tebow's a good kid and a great football player, but does anyone else think his rah rah attitude is going to be totally ridiculed in the pros?

Never say anything bad about God.

5pm Sunday, Korea time.  Just got home from a weekend away and saw that Hobart beat CMU 24-16.

The story makes it seem like Hobart got their act together over the last week.  Vella did well.  No more tucking and running 3 out of 4 plays like against Dickinson.  (OK, 3 out of 4 is an exaggeration, but he did tuck and run too much.)

Good an Bad from Engineers 9/19/'08

Good:
A win
Hermann can run.. good luck D Coordinators for the next 4 years
D made adjustments and shut down Utica for last 2/3rds of game
Won the TO battle in a big way
Looks like no serious injuries

Bad:
Running game struggled
Offensive Line did not play as well as expected
Penalties
Gave up 2 big plays on D
Pass defense needs to be stiffer
Punt game late in 4th didn't help battle for field position

Let's just say RPI has a lot to fix to beat the the Hobarts, Unions or maybe even the WPIs/Susq's/Roch's going forward... much less get to the playoffs.  However a game like this can be good for a program when you come out with the win.  Don't think anyone in the program players or coaches feels over confident at this point.

Also for the first time since I have watched them in a long time it seemed for the first quarter and a half the D was getting pushed around.  They did rebound and controlled the LOS for the remainder of the game.  They did hold Utica under there avg PPG of 63 :)

On the other side of the ball the O line did not.  Not sure if it was schemes/playcalling skill or effort but it didn't seem like we got a push of turned many interior lineman all day.

I think they will get better.  I even think they will get much better offensively but there is work to do.

Just wundrin` if K-Mack made it to the `Bart game? AWESOME pre and post game festivities!Nice win for the pumpkin heads.They sure looked alot better than last week against DICKinson.Back on track for another LL Championship and NCAA playoff berth...one week at a time.These boys are used to winning and will continue to find ways to win.QB vella-much improved performance.Credit coaching staff with that and coupled with the fact Vella only played in a couple games last year as backup.Defense showed flashes of brilliance, but has to stop the run better on 1st and 2nd downs.Cragg will toughen up his D-line and they will improve.Special teams-2 words-nice job! Hobart offense played a much improved game,but I think the Statesmen need to find a feature RB instead of subbing too much.A RB needs to be in the game and get a few carries before he gets his groove gion`.Marlier looked good when in.WR`s look pretty good but I`m not sure about Schulz.He hasn`t played a snap yet,but the others are stepping up.At FB Howard and Miller are just flat out nasty.Nice job guys,but we should have put up 14-21 more points easily.Next week!Go `Bart!!!
Geez Ward, don`t you think you were a little rough on the Beaver last night?

Agreed.  I've not seen, only listened.  It's clear that Hermann has skills, and is a pretty heads up freshman QB--he can only get better.  The whole team (O and D) should be able to get better too, and it's a relief  that they can expose their own flaws and still get the win.

I'd like to see the coaches and the offense put together a short game that can get them out of their own territory in the 4th quarter.  Those two punts late in the game were . . . major clench factors.

I think stim means our Oline didn't get a push on the Utica D and turn them to make running lanes.

Watching the game made a big difference for me, especially with that 30 yard TD run by Hermann. Fantastic, hope you guys check it out when it gets put up on RPI TV.

I agree with stim both lines were not physical in the begining and IMO only the d line was able to break out of that funk. Utica has a few play makers and with some focus (less TOs) should play well with the rest of the E8.

Why did it take so long to stop the run?? The dline was getting pushed and the LBs were not scraping to the ball. That will kill them if Union, bart, or susq establish the run.

That's all gro has for now. Feel good for the win RPI and get ready for the trip to woostah.

P.s. Keep ****ing that chicken.

Very nice footwork/broken field running by Hermann (whose powers and abilities surely come from that one over-the-calf sock that looms large over the other, mid-calf length sock).  No wonder sidekick was so enthusiastically advocating plays that take advantage of Hermann's strengths.  Roger that, broadcast booth.

I watched the whole 4th quarter.  If that was RPI's best quarter, there's plenty to work on, for sure--some of which, I think is easy enough to fix:

  • cut down on the sweeps to near sideline deep in your own territory with a lead and less than 2 min to play;
  • fake pitch/bootleg plays rarely work as well the second time, especially when the second time is only two plays after the first time;
  • secondary needs to tackle first, intercept second when bad guys are driving into the red zone with under a minute to play;

Those three things will make for a very different--though less exciting, I admit--4th quarter.

hate on hater.  CJ blew up, but the frosty dippers were legit this week (except jennings who went O-fer). 16 pts for Percy Harvin? you know it.

I'm not hating at all.  I'm telling TDT to look more into the #'s instead of swallowing your manhood.  ANYONE with CJ probably wins convincingly today.  I'm gonna win by 80 in said other league.

    RPI - 45
    Utica - 31

    Phone it in.

    LD is rpi's offense good enough to hang 45 on someone?

    I believe RPI's offense will surprise some people this year.

    Like dlip has said all along. These two QB's are probably nasty and thinks RPI will kick some ass on O this year once they get rolling. ****! It hurts every time dlip admits it but he thinks it is the truth.

    Hey, don't take it too hard, dlip.  Even K-Mack had nice things to say about them Engineers:

    • Which surprise 2-0 team is least likely to go 3-0?

      Keith's take: Utica. After 62-7 and 62-10 wins over Becker and Castleton State, the Pioneers are likely riding high. But confidence won't do the trick in a visit to RPI, which looked like its usual strong self in a 28-0 shutout of Endicott.

    He also mentioned RPI and Oberlin in the same sentence in the latest ATN.  Not many sportswriters have put those words in such close proximity.

    [/list]

    Of course, that was actually the point of that sentence, using RPI and Oberlin as different ends of the D3 spectrum
