pbr has to say, in using google chrome now for awhile and pbr is a big believer...uses a ton less memory than firefox/i.e. and so much faster....pbr sends a +k to google for a solid app...now pbr asks good WHERE IS MY WAVE INVITE!

EDIT: scratch that...pbr's friend the works for google just hit him up w/ a wave invite...

JT is trying chrome now.  JT isn't a professional browser scout but he thinks chrome has blazing speed.

LD sometimes even has to use Firefox, IE, and Chrome on the same machine to login to the same application without being booted for work.  There are a few funny quirks but overall, it seems to be much faster and is just overall more sound.

And of course the incognito window comes in handy when the old lady takes is out for a few.  BRILLIANT!!!

NICE LD...well played w/ the trojan horse/icognito window...have to say pbr rarely uses i.e. anymore...its chrome 90% of the time and firefox the rest.

as LD would say GOOGLE CHROME.....IT HAS BLAZING SPEED!

its science...

Somehow SF's LLPPFF Team is projected for 103 points this Sunday.... so you know what that means.... the team is going to score 55 actual points that count... and will lose by at least that number.

Jeez... is the lamp lit already?  SF is headed to Ada OH tomorrow morning with fellow OACPP regular, reality check to see SF's Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator square off as head coaches of Ohio Northern and Heidelberg.  reality check is flying in from Arizona for this one and SF is excited to see it because both coaches love to "trick" the other team with trick plays and gimmicks in close games.

With the restriction on carry on liquids, how do you get them past security?

Passengers are allowed to carry on certain liquids that are bought within a "safe area"... behind the security check in... like duty free shops... if you don't get from there... you can try to sneak them in.... if you get caught, you throw them away or drink them... no big loss.

Are you buying at Duty Free Shops from within the US?

JT used to BYOB quite often on long flights... now is unsure how to do it.  Flying to Barcelona in Nov and it would be nice to take 1/2 doz on so JT can sleep.

Yessir... sometimes the clerk puts them in plastic bags meaning they can't be drank, but it depends on how "cool" the clerk is.  SF has heard of people bringing their own wine onto flights... and "if the flight crew serves you", its supposed to be ok.   They also said some rules have been relaxed as far as the liquid ban on flights, but that some foreign countries have not followed suit.  I'd check ahead with where you are going to see what they allow when coming back but pretty sure the US is allowing even some soaps and perfumes to be purchased in the Duty Free shops but they do put those in the plastic bags.  Not sure what a plastic bag would do to stop a "Richard Reid" type of guy from getting to the goods... but whatever.

The time SF is referring to (last year with the buddys), the day started out at "Cheers" in the Cincy Airport with some beers, then switched over to little bottles of Crown on the flight and SF wasn't feeling well by the time the flight landed at LAX.

So, I've been asked by a lot of people this week, as I've stayed in the Capital Region between Union home games, why I'm placing so much emphasis on this weekend's Hobart/Union game.  I thought this would be a time to briefly look at the scenarios for these two teams.  Next week, I'll offer a full review of the eight teams of the Liberty League as I normally have done the past three seasons.

Let's look at the potential league standings if Union wins first:

Union 3-0
Rochester or Susquehanna 2-1
Merchant Marine 2-1 or 1-2
RPI 1-1
St. Lawrence 1-1
Hobart 1-2
Rochester or Susquehanna 1-2
WPI 1-2 or 0-3

In this scenario, we see Union drawing away from the pack a bit, including against Hobart.  Hobart's problems would become almost insurmountable as both teams that have beaten Hobart would be either ahead of Hobart or at the same line as Hobart (Susquehanna and Union).  This means that Hobart, out of 1-2 teams, would currently have the worst chances in a two-way or multi-way tiebreaker scenario at two losses.

Thus, if Union wins Saturday, it almost would force the Statesmen to hope for Union to lose THREE OUT OF FOUR league games over the next five weeks -- the chances of that being very poor.  In addition, Hobart would need Susquehanna to finish at three losses to help its chances since Susquehanna in a tiebreaker scenario would be a tough hurdle for Hobart to overcome.

For Union, not only would the team control its own destiny with the lead, but it also allows Union a potential margin for error.  While it is too early to talk about any team having an advantage in a three-way, one-loss tiebreaker scenario, should Union lose to RPI and Rochester, RPI and Union win the remainder of their games, we CAN see that the onus would still be on RPI to win the remainder of the team's league games.  In other words, if Union beats Hobart but loses to RPI, RPI would still need to beat Susquehanna, Hobart, King's Point and St. Lawrence to win the Liberty League should Union finish with one league loss.  While losing to RPI is never an acceptable scenario for Union or RPI fans, regardless of playoff possibilities, the Hobart/Union game highlights a certain margin of error that the Dutchmen might be allowed going forward this season -- i.e., a loss against any two-loss-or-worse team would still allow Union to control its own destiny, and a loss against a one-loss team would allow Union a respectable chance to still win the league title.

Finally, Union winning would virtually eliminate any three-loss team from contention because of the requirement that Union lose three out of four league games and that all other teams with two or one loss lose one or two more games.  The separation that would begin in Union's W/L league record would begin to eliminate some teams from honest contention.

ON THE OTHER HAND...If Hobart wins, here would be the standings:

Hobart 2-1
Union 2-1
Rochester or Susquehanna 2-1
Merchant Marine 2-1 or 1-2
RPI 1-1
St. Lawrence 1-1
Rochester or Susquehanna 1-2
WPI 1-2 or 0-3

We would be guaranteed either five or six teams tied in the loss column for the league lead, as RPI and St. Lawrence are idle this weekend.  Even a three-loss team would stand a chance to win the league -- although it would be very unlikely.  However, with Hobart still facing RPI, Rochester and USMMA, RPI still facing Hobart, Union, Susquehanna and USMMA, Union still facing RPI, Susquehanna, USMMA and St. Lawrence (etc.), there's a very good chance that two losses would win the league this year.

More importantly for Hobart, though, the team would still be alive and would own a tiebreaker against Union -- and potentially help Hobart in any multi-way tiebreaker involving Union at two losses.  Hobart's only path into the playoffs, with two losses already and only a nine-game schedule would likely be a Pool A berth through the league crown -- so this potential would still exist.  Hobart would still need to win out, however.

---------

That's just a snapshot of the importance of Saturday's game.  It's rare that a game before the halfway point of an eight-team league season would bear such importance, but I think we can see here that the game potentially affects every team in the Liberty League in terms of their chances to win the league (not just Hobart and Union).  More later in the weekend.

- Frank
