Tough day for Union.  Sorry, fellas.  At least you're still at the top of the LL, and your march to the NCAA playoffs is so far unhindered.  Plus, The Rev has a lot of respect for Union for choosing such difficult out-of-conference opponents.  It would be easy to choose patsies, but instead Union chooses teams that force them to play up and improve.  Big ups.

A lot of movement on the standings board.  Poor USMMA got socked down into Hobart former spot, Rochester jumped up into third.  St Lawrence slid to seventh.  The only constants were Union, Susq, and RPI...well, and WPI, poor bastards.

The Shoes next week should be a barnburner.  Can't wait to see what happens there.

Seems like Union has been sleepwalking thru the entire '09 season....Union woke up at halftime vs. Salisbury, but it was too late to pull out the game.

Hopefully, this was a wakeup call for the Dutchmen and the rest of the season goes along the lines of the last 2 quarters vs. Salisbury.....business as usual from '09 will not get it done.

This does nothing to clarify the cloudy primordial soup that is the Liberty League.  5-2 Union is now 4-0 in conference, 1-2 out of conference, with its 1 OoC win coming v. 5-2 Ithaca, the greatest team there ever used to be.

The U doesn't have an easy schedule remaining.  First, the all-bets-are-off Battle for the Shoes, then they're at USMMA, where the Kings Pointers play tough at the end of the season.  Finally, they take on Sasquatchanna, in what could be for the Pool A marbles.

Is Union good?  They beat Ithaca, but lost to 2-5 Muhlenberg, and pulled a 3 point win v. St. Lawrence out of their OTss.

Meanwhile, over in the E6, 6-0 Alfred has Ithaca and upstarts Rochester and Utica standing between the Saxons and a perfect season.  Maybe they'll get a vote for the d3football.com Top 26.

The Rev has a case of deja vu.  Isn't the LL always in a fog until the last game of the season?  The Rev thinks we must like it that way.  It keeps the season fresh until the very end.

Heh heh heh heh heh.  Good one.

All very true.  Union has a challenging end of season run.  They cannot underestimate a single opponent, not even USMMA, because the midshipmen have shown that they can pull spoiler-victories out of the ether, and Susquehanna has become the real deal just in time to leave us.  Rat bastids.  If they kept playing like this, they would have been a very welcome addition to the LL.  It's like they're leaving just as the party gets started.

Not trying to start a broo-ha-ha here U89, and not saying that I totally disagree with you. But for debates sake, do you think perhaps Union isnt as good as we think they are? Or perhaps the East Region in general?

I say this because Salisbury handled SJF, who appears on path for a 2nd place E8 finish and who manhandled Ithaca. And I say it because that same Ithaca team that got manhandled by SJF is the team that Union was barely able to defeat.

Frank the Tank, what is Unions record in region? Just starting to think about playoffs here, which is probably stupid the way the season is playing out, craziness in the east as always! Salisbury definetly is considered an out of region game and doesnt hurt The U, but what about The Mules? They appear to be considered a South team by d3football.com anyway. Is Union undefeated in the East Region?

Jeez a fat guy blocks two FG's and preserves Alabama's #1.  Wow!

did JT notice at the end of that game... the ball lay uncovered for about 5 seconds behind the LOS??  If Tennessee had picked it up and advanced for a TD (chances are low that far out), it would've been miraculous but not without precedent.  SF and buddies were wondering aloud if they were going to cover up the ball (in the 3 seconds) because Thomas More won a game that way against Defiance in 1994... its actually in the book "Heartstoppers and Hail Marys --- 100 greatest college football finishes.

Too bad --- I don't like Nick Saban..  would've been nice to see.

Saw that.  Too bad a Vol didn't grab it and go.

wondering the same thing... RPI beat Hobart that way in 2001. BTW, the ncaa should look into the eligibility of the 'Bama player that blocked that FG. Could have sworn I've seen him do the same thing in a high school game years ago.

I think given Muhlenberg are only ~257 miles away from U makes them "in region", but TGP could be wrong.

pumkinattack

The Centennial Conference is part of the south region, I believe, on the whole.  I think the rule is the states in the administrative region or within 200 miles.  Muhlenburg is beyond the mileage, but NY and PA are in the same admistrative region.  I'm pretty sure this is right, but Pat can correct.

Reno, U89 hears what you are saying, but there is much too much talent on that team to be performing the way they have in '09.

Hear a recap of yesterday's LL action (3 of 4 games decided by an avg of 4.33 pts) as well as a "Shoe-a-palooza 2009" preview with SRT and FR tonight on ITH (www.inthehuddlle.com).

Coaches King and Audino will discuss the game and SR players from each team will discuss whether RPI can make it 4 in a row or if this year's Union squad can win back the Shoes.

Kick-off is at 7:30 PM ET.
