Is anyone as pissed at LLPPFFL?  First, I drank too much last night to get up and out LeSean McCoy in the lineup.. Then:

Warner has 4 ints.
Moreno sucked for Denver.
Arizona defense has given up 28 already. Grant is playing on an offense that has 46 yards

Oh well.. Lesson learned, don't drink like that..

And by the way, have you actually looked at the Salisbury results this year?  Two very close games against the leaders of the USAC, a loss to the #3 team in the country and a loss to a D-2 school.  Salisbury's record to me is meaningless based on the awkward scheduling that school is forced to do right now.  That is a tough team, period.

OK Frank, you win.  But next time you give DC a hard time about being a homer, go look in the mirror.

The point I was making with DC was that it was in published pieces in a non-partisan website.  I've never said I'm not a Union fan and supporter, Lew.  DC and I are still friends -- he knew I was ribbing him a bit just to be an ass.

[EDIT:  And honestly, I'm not sure how your statement fits here.  I'm not saying Union is better than X, Y and Z teams in the country.  I'm comparing the 2009 Dutchmen and 2009 LL to prior years.  The discussion hasn't been focused on bashing teams or over-propping other teams.  In fact, Susquehanna could still end Union's playoff hopes without a doubt in my mind.  That's a tough, tough team.]

And also, those kinds of comments make me a better writer, which never hurts. I know Frank wasn't doing it just to be a dick, it's to remind me that there are 32 teams in the East, and not to focus to much ink on one just because I went there.

DC like dlip has said before, he thinks your ATE is the best publication the site releases on a weekly basis. **** could you imagine if dlip wrote it? Weekly headlines would look something like this:

Week #1: Union begins season with a bang!
Week #2: Union Union Union
Week #3: Union team meeting's are cool
Week #4: Union is ****ing awesome
Week #5: Union's practices go like this....
Week #6: Garnet is a great school color
Week #7: The Dutchmen locker room is cool
Week #8: RPI ****in Sucks! (Only week where Union isn't in the title)
Week #9: Union making playoff run
Week #10: Union is just beautiful
Week #11: Union
Week #12: Union

Week #13: If Mike Hermann were the QB at Sringfield......Springfield would Monkey Stomp Mount Union

TGP might trade his entire squad for a recent QB.  First TGP "drafted" Cassell who's been a total joke.  And b/c we have 32 teams in the league, TGP can't even pick up a single starting QB in KC's bye week.

Minnesota's defense is relentless and mean.  They look like the old Ravens, yet they give up more points.

Well thats kind of what I was thinking too.  And thats also an advantage that RPI (And Union) has.  If you are a great high school student who isn't interested in liberal arts but you are interested in engineering or science, schools like WPI, MIT, RPI and Union have programs that other nescac, LL, E8 and other d3 football programs dont have.

For some reason, I suspect that's not the profile of an especially large football talent pool, certainly not when compared to the pool of prospective liberal arts majors.

Maybe.  But you probably have 75 liberal arts schools in the northeast that have football teams (division 3, 2, 1-aa) and maybe a dozen or so engineering ones.

We need an LD column... call it the Dogg Pound.

It would have to be Pay-Per-View.

Doggie Style ? A DIII football sports critic would be hard for many to handle.  That would be an evolutionary moment.  Pat might get too much ish to make it worthwhile.  Lotta thin skinned folks on PP and at university.  The best in any profession has as many haters as likers.  And the haters can't stop tuning in.

And it wouldn't replace ATE with DC.  Just something new to add.

First chance to jot down a few thoughts from the Shoes game.

Interesting game to watch.  but sloppy, lot's of penalties and while there where no turnovers, it was not a particularly well played contest.

Quick thoughts:

Well I have seen Union finally and they are pretty much as expected.  Good... certainly not a great team.  I think the "they are loaded with talent and underachieving" is a bit overdone.  They did some nice things Sat.  But they have 3 really good players and a bunch of good ones.  They are good but they are where they are because they have prevailed in the close games.  Certainly that is the sign of a good team  If things continue to roll their way I might say they are more an overachieving team.  BTW my "really good" are Coney, Peters and Gallo.  Just can't put Connelly in that mix.  Not from the little I have seen (Shoes 08 and 09).  They are big up front on O and do a nice job getting Coney some space.  DB's are OK.  They did a nice job for the most part in coverage Sat but RPI hurt themselves with at least 4 drops.  D line gets a B.

What they did do was play solid error free football.  It was the key as RPI moved the ball but couldn't stay out of bad downs and distance with the flags.

6 Passes completed???

Connelly did help himself out by scrambling well and picking up some yardage but he did looked confused at the same time

Coney is a nice back.  He follows his blockers and seeks open space.  He has the has the speed to get to the corner.  I think all of his TD's yesterday where when he bounced outside after having nothing inside.  He runs hard but he is not a punishing kind of back...just very effective.

Union D played solid especially in the redzone.

I now know why there is a U on the back of one of the officials.   ;)  I think the count was 5 to 1 on the holding calls.  At least 3 on RPI would have been first downs in the 3rd quarter deep in U territory.  Then there was the blocking below the waist (announcer call).  The signal was for a chop block....  flag was thrown at the end of the play on the sidelines.  King was not speechless!  Again a first down deep in U territory.

Having said that the calls weren't the reason for the loss...No excuses .... maybe yesterday was just an example of the horrid officiating I have seen all year.   Picked up flags... holding calls after the play was over... horrible spots... late whistles... it's been horrible almost every game I have seen this year.

RPI lost their best DB on the first play on a vicious hit on the KO.  I think the problem was the wind pushed the KO deep and the wedge didn't get deep enough to pickup the oncoming defenders.  Losing him hurt in run support.  Tim Acker is a really good player

Caswell is McGowan reincarnate.

Hermann needs to move his eyes of the intended receiver then come back to him and either release the ball or move to the next receiver.  I mean this is the skill that all good QB's pick up as the game slows down for them.  He will improve and if he can combine his physical skills  with above he will be very good.

Nice kick by the RPI place kicker 38 yards into the wind.  Very impressive.

Although the game changed on the missed chipshot with the wind before halftime.

And then again on another penalty against RPI for roughing the kicker after they had stopped U deep in their own territory.

If you have a player like Gallo, how do you not get him the ball more?

Both Pat McCarthy (1 catch)and Brian Hall starting OT were really dinged up and not anywhere near full speed.

Loved the opening call by Audino.. Wildcat to Gourier with a pitched reverse.  Went only for about 6 or so but I love how he mixes in a trick play early in games.

As a Dad only have the two games left but it will not be my last Shoes game.  If there is something "right" about the way college football should be, the Shoes is it.

BTW...congrat's boys on a great pig roast spread
