I'm not directly criticizing her pay or whether she deserves it.  I'm making a couple of points.  One is that growth is merit based, same as 80% of wall street (the ones you read in the paper are the egregious outliers).  Secondly, if you're going to pay someone that well and it's related to growth in endowment, pay it out of the endowment, don't make it an operating expense and further run up the cost of tuition.  That's the bigger aspect to me.  I have a problem with the gov't subsidized loans (I had stafford myself) and the schools using the cheap cost of financing as a justification to spend like Richard Pryor in Brewster's Millions and then jack up tuiting.  Now that the shadow market (securitization) is gone, college is unaffordable to the masses.

Quote from: Doid23 on November 02, 2009, 10:22:25 AMI've seen much much worse examples of players crowding the plate, and I've never seen them get hit 3 times in 6 AB's.

Then you aren't watching enough baseball.  He's getting hit a lot in this series because the advance book on him says that he is killing pitches over the outer-half.  Look at all this post-season dingers.  How many went down the LF line.  He is hitting the ball out to Center, to the alley in Left Center (that happens to also have the jet stream behind it) and down the RF line.  The only way to counter that as a pitcher is to pitch him in, get off the plate in, and jam him.

The hockey example is a red herring because high-sticking and chargine are illegal.  Throwing inside is not illegal in baseball.

Did I say anything about throwing inside? Nope. Nothing wrong with throwing inside. Hell, nothing wrong with hitting people either (as I said earlier, I don't think he was thrown at intentionally, but for all I know, they could have been). I was just responding to your post that it wasn't understandable that he would be mad at being hit 3 times by ~90 mph pitches. I would, and you would too.

And, I watch plenty of baseball, thanks for asking. Had Yankees season tickets for years, watch about 60 regular season games on TV now, and most of the playoffs (Yankees or otherwise). The "book on him" has been the same book it's always been with him, and throughout these playoffs certainly, yet 3 times in 6 ab's is unique.

My favorite line (not yours) is that Utley "almost got hit". Sabathia is an inside pitcher, Utley hit's the hell out of him this series, and he hasn't been hit yet.

We'll agree to disagree, not worth really getting emotional about, but the funny thing is, I don't like ARod, think he's a phony, and agree with many of the comments here about him. Just my opinion that he should be pissed about getting hit 3 times, and that it is strange. I thought about it for about 2 minutes last night and moved on, as I will here.

I will interject here....Doid is one of the best whiffle ball players I have ever seen......he does get pissy when he gets beaned in whiffle though.

What's Gro's views on the I-AA/D-I rumors that have been running rampant related to RPI?

How rampant are the rumors? The entire east campus project was brought about when the NCAA was going to outlaw schools from having sports in different divisions. RPI wasn't going to drop DI hockey and planned to bring all other sports to that level. When RPI was allowed to keep DI hockey and all other sports at DIII, the east campus project was scaled down a bit but still put in place (I believe the football stadium was going to be 8,000-10,000 seats... now 5,200)

Gro's thoughts about a move to DI would be simply, why? What does the school gain from having DI athletics? The capital district is not much of a sports crazy atmosphere so it wouldn't be revenue. With the new facilities they have an opportunity to become one of the premier destinations for any student athlete considering DIII althetics. A move up makes them "another school". On the football side, we'd lose the long standing rivalries with the core LL teams so we could play... Valporaiso? Gro's not interested.

But the only difference is that I LOVED to turn on the inside pitch, and you dumb bastages (well, actually Marge and Troy) still tried to jam me inside. I still rank my shot over the house on Park Ave as one of my top ten athletic achievements, sadly.

Agreed, good point on the financing, I think that this model of escalating college costs is going to break soon, if not already (hopefully just in time for my kids to get to college).

U89 does not know who takes the pictures at Union games....this individual is very talented.  Every week, the pic gallery truly captures the energy of the game.

The photo's from Shoozapalooza are now up.....amazing.  There is a segment which shows Coney approach the LOS, with an unblocked RPI defender in front of him.....Coney hits the breaks, his butt about 6 inches from the ground and completely off balance he, changes direction for what appears to be a TD.

Really a first rate job in capturing the energy of the game.

Can you link to that shizz U89?  Are there past years Shoes' Game pics archived?  Perhaps with LD or Enginegro giving Regulator the "Friendly Stranger"...

Why is it that the guys who started out saying that A-Rod wasn't being thrown at ended up arguing that it's okay to throw at batters?

I'm an A-Rod Apologist to the end. Yeah he's a prima donna. He's also in the top five of hitters any of you have ever seen, with or without steroids. I can't believe some of the stuff you guys come up with against him. Yes he cheated on his wife and goes to hooters. The Red Sox have an employee whose sole job it is to keep players' mistresses away from their wives. Our false idolization of ballplayers was supposed to have ended in the 70s. Take a long look at your favorite ballplayer and ask yourself if you want to know everything about their personal lives. Appreciate the product on the field.

That being said, I hate Posada because he's an asshole, he's been an asshole to me personally, and it hurts his team (e.g. arguing with the ump like a bitch last night when it's your job to win the ump over). That's well-documented. I've never seen evidence that A-Rod is an asshole; a prima donna, a baby, a player, maybe. But there are PLENTY of those around baseball, and he is far from the premiere example of any of those. Just gotta accept it and move on.

Be honest: you hate him because he plays for the Yankees. I've heard nothing but good things about Youk. I hate him because he plays for the Sox. I would never extend that to some kind of moralistic judgment based on tabloid reports.

A-Rod, eyes closed, getting a boner while thinking about himself naked. Still one of MP's favorite players.

Mr. Ypsi

maxpower,

Careful with that "top five hitters ANY of you have ever seen" stuff - some of us are old enough that we've seen Ted Williams, Willie Mays, etc. etc.! ;D
