gro could not sleep last night and was flipping through the channels around midnight and saw a bunch of guys in white pajamas with blue stripes yelling and celebrating like they won something... anyone catch that? Mr. Fergusen?  ;D

Yeah I saw it.  It was amazing how genuine they tried made the celebration look.  About 4 were genuine, the rest are posers.

That is rich coming from a Bahston fan.  C'mon LewDoggie, you guys are one in the same.  Nobody is fooling anybody else here.  Let the offseason sweepstakes begin!!

Yeah ok buddy.  There was a time when the Yankees were good, because they were the Yankees.  There was a mystique about them.  Then the 2000's hit, and it all came to a crashing halt.  1 WS in 10 years after spending BILLIONS of dollars.  I'd be more embarrassed to be a fan than anything.

About as embarrassing as having the second highest payroll in baseball for nearly a century and only two recent WS titles to show for it.

Team   2009 payroll
New York Yankees   $201,449,189
New York Mets   $149,373,987
Chicago Cubs   $134,809,000
Boston Red Sox   $121,745,999
Detroit Tigers   $115,085,145
Los Angeles Angels   $113,709,00
Philadelphia Phillies   $113,004,046
Houston Astros   $102,996,414
Los Angeles Dodgers   $100,414,592

Quite a discrepancy there.

Sorry, top four and not top two this year...sure...between us and the rest of the league there is a big gap, but Boston of all places cannot claim pauper over the last 100 years.  Wait until they sign Bay for over $60 million.  Yeah...poor Boston...

U89,

What the heck are these guys talking about? Ticker tape parade? Where? For what? Did something happen last night? Was order restored in the Universe?

The year 2000....the last time Susquehanna was over .500 & the last Yankee World Series....seems like a long eons ago.
Ahh, I got it. Thanks. Speaking of eons, you folks have a lot of history with that kind of waiting, so you'll at least be prepared for the next drought. My favorite part of last nights game? Seeing them replay past WS Game 6's and seeing old Billy Buckner. B*tch.

That's why they play the games.  Titles aren't guaranteed.  Actually, this team was more like the Yankees of the 90's than any other Yankee team since 2001.

Because they were the highest paid team in the league?  Or because they actually won the world series this year?

Because they have players that add to team chemistry, instead of detract from it.

because they cant develop their own talent they buy everyone else's....capitalism at its finest...they have made over 1/2 of mlb's teams their minor league and let everyone else draft well and develop talent then buy up whoever is good...shame mlb owners cant see the problem, would of been much smarter to take the nfl model long ago....

Good thing the Phillies developed and brought up Cliff Lee and Pedro this year or else they would have never made the WS.

That being said, I actually do think MLB should go to the NFL model.

Dude, I've had a stomach bug the past two days. I was just feeling better. I'm really tempted to -k you for the nausea you provided by comparing my beloved Crusaders to the team I loathe more than any other.

Yes they spent a Dlipload of money on free agents but they are playing within the rules and until Bud Selig and the rest of the good ol boys club change the rules it will remain this way.  They spent stupidly for several years but Cashman was able to convince George and the boys to let him do it his way and with the exception of Hank negotiating the Arod deal Cashman has built the team intellegently and for the long run.

The Around the Region column is up, a good story on Susquehanna maybe taking the LL title in its last year with the league.  :D

(I can't not take a chance to pimp my work -- ever.)

And for all the Susquehanna haters out there, please note Steve Briggs' comments on why we're leaving the LL and how much we've appreciated being here. It's genuine, trust me.

Actually, the Yankees have been very deliberate in developing their farm system the past few years.  Melky Cabrera, Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, Robinson Cano, Brett Gardner are all farm developed, and all contributed to this championship.  And without Phil Hughes setting up for Mariano, the Yankees don't sniff the WS in 2009.

They won't change the rules.  That would mean that certain teams would have to spend more money on their ballclubs.  Those owners would rather pocket the cash every year, then go into deficit to compete.

Yeah, and most of those guys had nothing to do with winning the world series.  (i.e. - See ARod, Texeira, Sabathia)

Who were the 2 biggest FA's last year?  Both are on the Yankees.  Whatever.  Kudos to them.  But if you want to say it's a fair playing field, it's not.

Nick Swisher on the other hand...That was a legit move.  I like him, and think he actually earns his paycheck.

Doid23

The Phillies have not yet decided whether to offer a contract extension to pitcher Cliff Lee this off-season, but they have discussed the possibility internally.

Discussed it internally? How long should that conversation take? Seriously, did they see the rest of their starting pitchers? I'd like to be Cliff Lee right now, that's for sure.

dlippiel

Everyone buys players, dlip gets so ****in annoyed with the whinning about the Yanks. Please, nothing is a fair playing field in sports. The Yanks money comes from revenue as a result of team interest, fan base, and mother****ers that are willing to pay because the game means more to them, it's a higher priority. ****, listen to NY Sports talk radio, they talk abaseball almost 12 months of the year. If you can charge that much for a ticket and people pay it who is to blame? Both parties actually but still if people are willing to spend the type of $ in these big markets it represents their passion for the game and their team. This Yanks team had cohesion, cosistency, character, steroids (of course all teams do today, and talent and thats why they won. They buying the team argument is old, tired and piss poor bitching.
