By the way, what in the name of Jim Grey has happened to the classy post game interview? First of all, this whole podium on the outfield/ midfield/ center court interview and trophy presentation just sucks, put it back in the clubhouse where it belongs. Akward interviews should not be transmitted to an entire stadium. Secondly, can't anyone be allowed to enjoy a game, without some a**hat talking about "you're contract's up", or about steroid allegations, or cheating, or whatever "serious journalism" they're trying to pawn off on us? I'm hoping that Matsui said "shut the dlip up, you pseudo real reporter, go cover the war if you want to report real news, this is sports, and your no better than the society reporter",  and that his interpreter cleaned it up for him. And thirdly, could someone kick Bloomberg out of the group? Listen, you're the richest mfer up there, you could actually buy and sell the lot of them, just act cool rather than trying to get your mug on TV. And while there at it, stop showing dlipping Gulianni and that dlipping rat he's dating.

Makes me wish someone would pull a Roy Williams - remember after his Kansas team lost the NCAA title game, and Bonnie Bernstein (I think?) asked him about the Carolina job, and he said, "I could give a $hit about Carolina right now."

so 1 small team out of how many are "successful" and nothings wrong? when was the last time the successful twins won the world series? read agreat article not too long ago (see pbr can find the link) where they interviewed several small market gm's talking about this....there margin for error is so small because if they miss on 1 or 2 drafts their team is done for a long time because they dont have the money the yanks do to go sign top free agents. it puts tons of pressure to make every draft pick count,  which is double tough when the yanks have endless resources to scout/watch every last baseball game in central/south america and the caribbean. yes pbr likes cliff lee a lot but its ridiculous to me that cleveland had this fantastic roster a few years ago to have it picked apart by vultures. truly sad if your a g.m. when you know u draft a great player or found a gold nugget in the late rounds of the draft knowing you will lose him in a couple of years to the yanks...

The mistake by the lake is a cesspool anyhow --- they don't deserve a baseball or football team.  they are lucky King James was drafted by the Cavs or they'd be completely neutered in the sports world and SF loves to see this.  DLIP Cleveland.

Spoken like someone from Cincinnati.  Just can't get along with those Northerners huh?  ;)

JT was wondering what happened to the clubhouse.  Even YES did a crappy post game job.

KS liked Texeira in the Ski googles in the clubhouse, reminded KS of the kid waiting to see Santa in front of Ralphie in a Christmas Story.

I'd forgotten about that one, that was a classic, although coming from Bonnie Berstein made it a lot more palatable.

Mr. Ypsi

I grew up in Peoria, which is exactly at the dividing line between Cubs and Cardinals territory.  I'd estimate that fans were about 40% Cubs, 40% Cards, 15% White Sox, and 5% other.  As an insecure, front-running kid, I was other - I was a Yankees fan.  Nice when you're a kid to have your team in the WS essentially every year (we're talkin' 50s and early 60s).  But I grew out of it! ;D

I now root for the 'upper-middle class' Tigers, who are able to be in that category only because they have what I think is the best owner in sports - Mike Illitch.  He's been propping up the Tigers with Little Caesars' pizza money for years.  (With Detroit's current economy, he has cut ticket prices and, when an auto company could no longer finance a billboard beyond the outfield wall, he left it up anyway and added the other two auto companies.)  He also is the owner of the Red Wings, where in the much smaller pond, he can afford to make them the Yankees of the NHL.

I'm done with this conversation anyway.  1. I don't really care about it, or baseball all that much these days, and 2.  You can never 'win' and argument against arrogant a-hole Yankee fans.

I concede.

Nor can you win the argument against arrogant asshole yankee haters and you just end up being a bit of a dick like dlip was......

You draw like crap.

Mr. Ypsi

I was a huge Mickey Mantle fan - to the point I despised Maris in 1961 for breaking the record that should have been broken by The Mick.  (My excuse is I was 13-years-old; how 'grown-ups' could justify the treatment Maris got is beyond me. :-[)

My absolute favorite was little-used back-up catcher Johnny Blanchard (for reasons I've long-since forgotten - probably something dumb like he had a game-winning HR on my birthday; who knows?)  I also really liked Moose Skowron (sp?) - what kid doesn't like a player named Moose?! ;)  And of course Yogi - he even made sense to a kid! :o

Don't forget about my Wolverines, they suck too. And it all started out so well this year...

maxpower

Red Sox fans, when you won the World Series, did it make you want to spend less money so that someone else could win after that?

I think anyone that thinks there's high moral ground in how ANY team gets their players in the monopoly that is MLB is pretty freakin naive....

Max doesn't support Congress getting all in sports' business lately, but if you want to even the playing field, baseball needs either 1) a salary cap or 2) to get rid of the antitrust exemption. If you think it's not fair, direct your ire to Bud Selig or Congress, not Steinbrenner or Cashman. Like I've said, I'm a Yankee fan that thinks we need a cap -- bad.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The NCAA has rejected a final appeal to reinstate Dez Bryant, and Oklahoma State (No. 19 BCS, No. 18 AP) probably has seen the last of its All-America receiver.

Bryant sat out the past five games for Oklahoma State (6-2, 3-1 Big 12) after the school ruled him ineligible for lying to an NCAA investigator looking into Bryant's offseason meeting with former NFL player Deion Sanders.

The NCAA decided last week that Bryant should be suspended until next September, and OSU appealed to the NCAA's Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee. That group announced Thursday that it had rejected Bryant's appeal in a two-paragraph statement that included no explanation.

The NCAA indicated in its initial decision that it was showing leniency toward Bryant, because it could have taken his eligibility away entirely.

Is there a bigger group of a**hats than the NCAA? Talk about the punishment not fitting the crime. Especially pr*ckish to say you're showing leniency, when they know damn well this was his last year. Tools.
