Question:

When does a team that goes 1 for 17 on third down win?

Answer:

When their opponent goes 1-16, throws 3 picks,  muffs a punt inside the 10, lets the punter run for 2 first downs and has by my count 5 drops.

Horrible game (in reallity Hobart didn't really sparkle either) at Geneva.  Hobart scoring drives were -4 and 11 yards.

Might have been the worst game i have ever watched for offensive futility

I was only listening, but I couldn't figure out why RPI even bothered to put a returner back for punts, when Hobart was punting into the wind.  If I heard it correctly, the Engineers had not one, but two punt returners.

Put those returners on the line of scrimmage, prevent the fake punt from succeeding, make the punter punt--into the wind, it's not going very far.

You may have gathered the Hobart perspective on this one from the LL updates, but yeah, this one was about as ugly as it gets.  While TGP credits the Hobart "D" on one hand, the level of play by both offenses was well below par.

WEOS' Baker kept indicating that Hermann seemed to keep getting in last minute play calls from the RPI sideline which may have contributed to his struggles.

Regardless, not the LL's best performance (if not worse performance) in quite some time.

Maybe one of the Liberty League teams can pick up this chick.  She won't be playing soccer anymore.

Anyone know why U of R's OLB, Trenton Tully got ejected in the 2nd quarter of the SLU game?  Will this have any carryover to next week?

Soccer is such a great sport.  They gave her a yellow card--that'll teach her.

No wonder Euro-weenie surrender monkeys love soccer so much.

Doid,

It will be either Brian Kelly or Urban Meyer next year in South Bend.  Whichever one they get, will be a 5 million dollar man..

U89- Navy does deserve congrats.. But Notre Dame should NEVER lose to Navy.  Never.  See ya later, front butt chuck

I'm pretty sure Urban Meyer would be a disaster in South Bend.

Why don't they go after Gary Patterson or Chris Peterson?

Funny thing is this all stems from throwing Bob Davie under the bus after Holtz left.  I'd bet they'd be in better shape institutionally if they had just sat tight with Davie.

Totally agree...

He's not going to be able to get the athletes in there to get that spread going...

Nah.... I unfortunately saw it in person.. Ugly

You know I have used that toss away phrase of "ugly' game, but when both offenses go a combined 2 for 33 on 3rd down conversions it is beyond ugly.

Thought both defenses did play well.. not going to discredit their collective efforts but dropped/inaccurate passes, penalties and some curious play calling made for a frustrating game to watch.

Who would have thought at the beginning of the season that a ranked team and one who most expected to at least challenge for the LL would put on a show like that.

Sounds like it is going to be a great show Frank. If/when talking to Gourrier, obviously mostly football related, maybe you can mention the impact he has had on many of my students last year and again starting in two weeks at the after school program at my school (Pleasant Valley Elementary in Schenectady). He (as well as other dutchmen) has been nothing short of outstanding with the students!

That sounds cool Frank, dlip will be online in the comment section. Just give him a heads up on there and he'd love to call in on this big week. If there is a specific time you have in mind pm him and let him know. Again, dlip always enjoys being thought of and included and appreciates it very much. Big win for the U yesterday! Like dlip said before the game, taking this team for what they are and they needed a W yesterday and got it on the road behind two solid running performances. Of course there are areas for concern with the U as there always will be. All in all dlip feels they did what they needed to yesterday to get them some positive momentum going into next week.

Well, here we are, as usual, the last weekend and the LL title still up for grabs (although a little less complicated than usual). UColl and Scrotch look to be pretty much equals, especially if you throw out the two clunkers they threw up against Muhlenberg and KP. I think (OK, hope), that the home field advantage, well, the travel at least, will help swing the tide, but who knows. It certainly feels better for the Dutchmen to go into this game after a solid win over the boys from Kings Point, but I've still got my worries with all of the turnovers they've been giving up.

The real problem with this game? It's just tough to work up any anger or conviction against the Sasquatch people, they all seem so damn nice. And sure, there leaving the LL, but not for better competition, or any unhappiness with how they were treated, just thought it would be better for everyone this way. Now, if this was Ithaca? Easy. RPI? Need you ask? Hobart? The trip to nowhere to play on a field that smells like manure (I wonder if it still does) would make anyone mad. Hell, I used to even work up some anger to go play Skidmore in lacrosse. But Susqhehanna? Even the name sounds nice. Selinsgrove? Sounds like the kind of town where people cheer for the other team, and do what they can to make your stay as pleasant as possible. I mean, seriously, is there any chance for trash talk this week?
