On the subject of guns:

My father, a USMC Korean War veteran, always taught me to treat every gun as if it were loaded and even at 78 would kick my a$$ if I pulled a punk stunt like these NBA players did in their locker room.  What is sad is I wonder if these athletes had anyone like my old man to teach them how to behave like men when they were yet boys?

A couple of dad's gems:

"Don't worry about the horse, just load the wagon."

"I am not underwriting your BS."

"Your feelings are not worth my integrity."

And the best catch-all phraseology of "knock off that grab-a$$ and quit lollygagging."

Note:  to all uninformed land lubbers, lollygagging is sitting on the yard arms of the sailing ship with your legs and feet ballooned up by the wind.  A nice comfy ride until the wind either slackens or dies down, at which point the aforementioned lollygagger would lose his comfy air cushion and plunge either into the sea or the deck - usually resulting in death.

In other words - don't goof off.

Nope - the old man was priceless.   Frightening to think I find myself sounding more and more like him all the time.

Same thing the Marine Gunny taught us squids in Small Arms Instructors School in Little Creek Va.  KS was attending and gun safety was preached constantly to us by Gunny.  If any of us had pulled what Arenas did we would have been the receipients of a good old fashioned "Blanket Party" that night.

One of my Dad's gems:  There are no brakes on a bullet.

JT has no problem with professional athletes owning guns.  One has to protect themselves.  However, it appears to JT that the pro leagues are dropping the ball on education.  There's no reason there shouldn't be gun training courses promoted by the union and the leagues.  They have finance courses and other stuff like that.  Why not gun use?  It would certainly cut down on the BS.

"If you own guns and really want to protect yourself and your family like the pros in law enforcement... take X course"

Something like that.

Come on JT these multi ****ing millionaires need to protect themselves from what??? Their ****in drug dealers, their associating themselves with dangerous people, or their own teammates bringing multiple guns into their locker rooms when they want to settle an argument? Please, education on guns, you talk as if these athletes who are caught with guns give a **** about anything let alone taking a gun safety course to educate themselves on the weapons they carry. Try this out. They have no ****ing reason to carry hand guns and ****ing pistols if they are living and acting like responsible adults. Hand guns are ****ing retarded and so is Mr. Arenas dude. dlip means how much can you educate a million dollar retard whom the first game after the incident where he pulled a gun on a teammate he is mock shooting his teammates before a game. This guy and any other athlete who brings a gun anywhere besides hunting deserves to be chastised for what they are, ****ing stupid.

I kind of agree with JT here.  If you can show that you are responsible, you should be able to carry a gun.  Look at that kid from the Redskins that came home and got jacked up.

...and Arenas is a responsible person? There in lyes the problem. How do you determine who is responsible and who is not? Dude no pedestrian needs a ****ing pistol. **** let's all carry them, we are all in danger! dlip was always a fan of William Munny!

I don't know Arenas' criminal or mental health history so I can't really answer that.  But I do know that athletes can be targets for robberies, home invasions and other violent crimes where they may need a weapon.  They also may argueably have the right to have a weapon as well.

The Rev used to carry a 9mm every where, including to church.  Some people thought it was a little weird, but the parish was in one of Phoenix's worst neighborhoods. If The Rev needed to go outside the church gates, or go get some gas around the corner, the 9 in a visible holster ensured that no one ever bothered him.

No guns in civilian hands in Korea except for the criminals.  The Rev avoids the Russian neighborhoods because they are dangerous.

Anyone know anything about accounting careers?  Is it still a good field despite the economy?

Closing in on 40, is it worth getting a post-bacc certificate in Accounting?

Redskin safety was shot and killed in a robbery attempt at his home.

Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed in limo.

Giant wide receiver Steve Smith was robbed at gunpoint in front of his condo, right after getting out of a limo.  This caused Plaxico to carry his gun to a club a few days later.

JT would carry in NYC if he could.  The going rate to grease or bribe the right people is about 15-20K.  Otherwise the application just sits in a drawer.  NJ has the most oppressive gun laws in country.  Getting a carry permit is virtually impossible.  If JT thought he really needed to carry in NJ, he'd get a private dick license.

You are ignoring the problem.  They are going to have the guns.  One NBA player said about 75-80% of players own guns.  Wouldn't it be better to get them some real training?  Might lead to less stupid stuff.
