QuoteOne NBA player said about 75-80% of players own guns.  Wouldn't it be better to get them some real training?

No dude you are ignoring the problem, this is the problem right here. You just proved my ****ing point. Also most players in the NBA who have been interviewed anonomously have made it clear that they are happy Arenas is in trouble. Very few if any have come forward to back him up. Yet again, let's just let everyone carry guns and have fun when you piss someone off in traffic and they pull a gun on you, you pull your tough guy gun on them, and then let's see who has the balls to handle business. See that's what it comes down to. We have, or supposedly have evolved since the days of the revolution and wide open spaces where people needed guns. Yet it seems as if we shall agree to disagree and thats fine. Let's just hope nothing happens to you or your family because of a pissed off person with a gun.

I see a big difference between a guy having a pistol with him just in case something happens, and a guy having an arsenal. Plaxico Burrress carrying a gun didn't seem outrageous to me, but he did break a law, and then try to cover it up, sometimes it's just a matter wrong place wrong time. I don't agree that it makes him safer, but at least I understand why he may want to carry a gun.

On the other hand, Gilbert Arenas having 3 guns in the locker room, Tank Johnson having an arsenal at his house, including assault rifles, etc., well, that's a different deal. But let's be honest, at that point it's not about personal protection, and more about living the life, etc.

On the subject of guns:

My father, a USMC Korean War veteran, always taught me to treat every gun as if it were loaded and even at 78 would kick my a$$ if I pulled a punk stunt like these NBA players did in their locker room.  What is sad is I wonder if these athletes had anyone like my old man to teach them how to behave like men when they were yet boys?

A couple of dad's gems:

"Don't worry about the horse, just load the wagon."

"I am not underwriting your BS."

"Your feelings are not worth my integrity."

And the best catch-all phraseology of "knock off that grab-a$$ and quit lollygagging."

Note:  to all uninformed land lubbers, lollygagging is sitting on the yard arms of the sailing ship with your legs and feet ballooned up by the wind.  A nice comfy ride until the wind either slackens or dies down, at which point the aforementioned lollygagger would lose his comfy air cushion and plunge either into the sea or the deck - usually resulting in death.

In other words - don't goof off.

Nope - the old man was priceless.   Frightening to think I find myself sounding more and more like him all the time.

Same thing the Marine Gunny taught us squids in Small Arms Instructors School in Little Creek Va.  KS was attending and gun safety was preached constantly to us by Gunny.  If any of us had pulled what Arenas did we would have been the receipients of a good old fashioned "Blanket Party" that night.

One of my Dad's gems:  There are no brakes on a bullet.

JT has no problem with professional athletes owning guns.  One has to protect themselves.  However, it appears to JT that the pro leagues are dropping the ball on education.  There's no reason there shouldn't be gun training courses promoted by the union and the leagues.  They have finance courses and other stuff like that.  Why not gun use?  It would certainly cut down on the BS.

"If you own guns and really want to protect yourself and your family like the pros in law enforcement... take X course"

Something like that.

Come on JT these multi ****ing millionaires need to protect themselves from what??? Their ****in drug dealers, their associating themselves with dangerous people, or their own teammates bringing multiple guns into their locker rooms when they want to settle an argument? Please, education on guns, you talk as if these athletes who are caught with guns give a **** about anything let alone taking a gun safety course to educate themselves on the weapons they carry. Try this out. They have no ****ing reason to carry hand guns and ****ing pistols if they are living and acting like responsible adults. Hand guns are ****ing retarded and so is Mr. Arenas dude. dlip means how much can you educate a million dollar retard whom the first game after the incident where he pulled a gun on a teammate he is mock shooting his teammates before a game. This guy and any other athlete who brings a gun anywhere besides hunting deserves to be chastised for what they are, ****ing stupid.

I kind of agree with JT here.  If you can show that you are responsible, you should be able to carry a gun.  Look at that kid from the Redskins that came home and got jacked up.

...and Arenas is a responsible person? There in lyes the problem. How do you determine who is responsible and who is not? Dude no pedestrian needs a ****ing pistol. **** let's all carry them, we are all in danger! dlip was always a fan of William Munny!

When JT leaves NJ it will be to state where he can carry a weapon.

Have fun gun slingin JT, dlip wishes you the best buddy! dlip is actually an avid outdoors-man and loves hunting. He feels their is a clear difference between hand guns, assult rifles, semi-automatic weapons, ak-47's, etc than rifles, muzzle loaders, shot guns, etc. But you keep carrying Billy the Kid and keeping our world safe tough guy.

What's your problem?  Ever wonder why Texas is very safe?  Citizens can carry a weapon.  And JT is not Billy the Kid.  JT just comes from a long line of family past/present that view guns as a tool used only when needed.  Hunting.  Self-defense.  And most likely its never needed for self-defense.

My family never made a big deal about guns, except to make sure that everyone was properly trained.  JT's been around guns his entire life.  He doesn't really think about it.  But after 9/11, he'd prefer to carry a gun in NYC.  He doesn't, but he wishes he did.

dlips problem is he does not see any reason a civilian should carry a hand gun or assult rifle simple.

JT is not backing anyone up.  They are going to have guns.  Like teens are going to have sex.  Don't we tell kids to use protection?  What I'm saying is that if they are going to be gun owners anyway, make them better owners.  These guys probably aren't qualified to handle guns inside the house.  They should be made to learn if they own guns.  What if they shoot a family member?

And JT stays away from confrontations because there are many people here that are just not quite right. Many have knives.  Messengers have big bike chains.  Drivers have tire irons and bats.  The best way to avoid trouble is to see it coming.  Can't tell you how many times JT's spidey sense tingled, and JT bailed, only to read in the paper or news that some ish went down.  JT ain't willing to die, just because he had the right of way.

Didn't you say you would carry one though? The only reason you don't is because of the strict laws in Jersey (home of "the shore"). Well JT it's not the first and probably not the last time we will disagree but dlip will say you are always very articulate translating your thoughts into writing and dlip does appreciate that. **** when dlip thinks of the people on jersey shore he begins to maybe reconsider his stance on gun carrying... ;)

Cant. Get. Enough. The only thing I like more than crazy people is watching really stupid people. I actually like Snooki more than this Hicks lady. But once again, just couldn't make this stuff up because no one would believe us. To recap: Snooki: Wants to change the world by installing tanning beds in everybodys homes, doesn't read books, and likes pickles. Of course, she's pulling in $7K a night to appear at clubs/ bars, so I guess she found someone dumber to make money off of.

First she got punched in the face, now Nicole (Snooki) Polizzi from "Jersey Shore" is getting verbally slammed for her tanning habits.

Polizzi received some serious backlash from a member of the Parents Television Council after her appearance on "The Jay Leno Show" Monday, where she announced her aspirations to "change the world" by installing a tanning bed "in everybody's homes," Usmagazine.com reports.

Marybeth Hicks, of the Council, berated the sun-kissed self-professed "guidette," saying, "It's disconcerting that [she] could have any sort of influence or be a role model ... or advocate something like tanning beds that could cause cancer."

The 21-year-old reality TV star, who recently made headlines for being punched over the summer at a Seaside Heights, N.J., bar, wasn't shy when she also told Leno her favorite junk food was "pickles" and that she doesn't read books.

"The notion that these people are celebrities at all gives them credibility they should not have," said Hicks, adding that the show is "glorifying" behavior that is "silly" and "dangerous."

"This [show, 'Jersey Shore'] is a great example of sheer exploitation for the purpose of chasing ratings," says Hicks, adding that cast members are "so caricatured, they're almost like cartoons."

The complaint is just the latest in a string of attacks against the popular show.

Just complement them on their hair, manscaping, guns (arms), and they're pussycats.  They are pretty much like chicks.  Just don't make Hulk angry. ;)

Hicks probably needs to find a hobby but dlip can't fault her for this statement: "...adding that cast members are "so caricatured, they're almost like cartoons."

Agreed, although you could argue that Ms. Hicks is in danger of also being a caricature, channelling her inner Tipper Gore.

KS thinks most of the NBA players wouldn't get permits if they tried to buy their guns legally.  KS believes in the right to bear arms, but doesn't own any guns right now because KS lives in Jersey City NJ and is afraid of them getting stolen.  KS also understands why many of these athletes and performers feel threatened, but they make enough money to hire a former Marine or cop to be their bodyguard and don't need to carry themselves.

Thats a lot of it KS.  Plaxico had the thing in his sweatpants pocket!  Thats unsafe for everyone involved.  And stats are going to go both ways.  If everyone carried a gun around, gun deaths would go up, just like if everyone drove a car around, car crashes would go up.

I just think sometimes these athletes get a bad name and are told they aren't allowed to carry a gun just because people like Arenas and Plaxico do something stupid.

If you want to own a gun and or carry it, you should be able to go through some process where your background is checked etc etc before you get that gun.  In the end, people like Plax or Arenas might not be able to carry guns.

Of course, JU has a permit to carry anywhere in the USA consealed or not.  Thats how I roll.

Brockport, N.Y. (AP) -- The state university in Brockport,
N.Y., is telling people to stay in their buildings and lock the
doors because of reports of gunfire just off campus.
A notice on the College at Brockport's Web site says police
reported an "active shooter" just before 1:30 p.m. on a road at
the western border of the campus.
Calls to police and the Monroe County Sheriff's Department
weren't immediately returned. No other details were available
Friday afternoon.
The regular semester hasn't started yet at the school
outside Rochester.
