Frank,

I could not agree more - Favre was trying to do the superhuman on a very bad ankle AFTER being put in a terrible situation.

I'm sorry, I agree with your other points, and with Frank's point about the decision to burn time, but let's not call Favre trying to complete a 10 yard pass "superhuman". This wasn't Leftwich being carried down the field by the other Marshall players.

But I agree it was certainly a gutsy performance, and obviously, much better than Tavaris Jackson would have done. And I fully expect Favre to be back next year, but PLEASE let him spare us the flip flopping drama of the past two years.

I thought of this comment from Bill Simmons in regards the Vikings...

The Jets, Bills, Vikings and Browns are the Mount Rushmore of effed-up NFL fan bases: 50-plus years of history, lots of losing and misery, generations of fans and some particularly soul-crushing heartbreaks (in my Levels of Losing 2.0 column, those three franchises probably nailed every level combined). You can't root for any of these teams without having them infect your DNA in some way. Being a Saints fan hasn't exactly been a barrel of laughs, but there's a spiritual optimism about them -- something tied to the festiveness of Bourbon Street, Mardi Gras and the city in general -- that was beaten out of the Jets/Bills/Vikes/Browns fans a long time ago. Saints fans roll with the punches. Jets/Bills/Vikes/Browns fans expect to get punched, contort their faces into a giant wince, wait for a punch that never comes, say to themselves, "Cool, I'm not gonna get punched, it's gonna be OK!" ... and then they get clocked.

...when I read Peter King's MMQB column this morning:
The Vikings will have to live with their bitterest loss in a generation for a long, long time. Thirty-one first downs, outgaining the Saints by 218 yards, rendering Reggie Bush (seven carries, eight yards) irrelevant except for one short touchdown catch, not allowing a Saints' wideout a 20-yard catch all day ... and losing. Throwing it away. Fumbling it away. Eight fumbles or interceptions in 13 possessions. Whoever lost the game here was going to feel it for a long time, but the fact that Minnesota may have lost on a 12-men-in the-huddle penalty, followed by a horrendous Brett Favre interception in the last pass of his season (career?) ... I don't know how the Vikings will sleep for a while.

As a Jet's fan I can sympathize with Vikings fan, but in the Jet's case the better team won. I'm not sure that was the case with the Vikings-Saints game last night. But hey, Fran Tarkenton is pumped.

Doid, got any left over sympathy for a Lions fan?

With the Saints win, Detroit is now the ONLY team that existed when the Super Bowl era began who has never played in it. >:( :(

Did everyone forget this?

3rd and 10 at NO 33   PENALTY on MIN, Offensive 12 On-field, 5 yards, enforced at NO 33 - No Play.

This is the play BEFORE the Favre INT.  This is the play putting them in a need to throw the ball.  This is the play that put them out of field goal range.  They had 1 TO left, could have run the ball for a yard or 2 and called a TO.  Instead, they HAD to pass and the real Favre showed up.

Favre TRIED to call a TO when the penalty was called which may have screwed them as well and made them have to kick on 3rd from 50.  Minnesota choked.  New Orleans got tough when they needed to.  Favre made a typical old school Favre play, and the rest is history.

Should be a great Super Bowl.  Would love to see the Taints win one.

I wouldn't say they HAD to pass.  I mean, when the defense has no one in the flat and gives up at least 7 yards running even for Farve, you have to be smart down there.

But you are right.  Farve also threw a dart for their last TD that was also inbetween everyone.

As you well know, these are NOT the original Cleveland Browns - they're pretending to be the Ravens.

They still own the rights to the original franchise records and such right?

Let me explain what I thought was superhuman - his attempt, after the beating he took on the previous 59:53 to attempt an across the body throw in the middle of the field with the very game on the line and open field before him.  The very physical act is somewhat unnatural, coached against, and ill advised even if one is fresh, young, and healthy - all things Brett was not.

These are all things that cause me to label his attempted heroics as superhuman - in other words - foolish and based upon good fortune at other points in his career that were somewhat dependent upon luck rather than skill.

Given these facts, I stand by my previous analysis.

Is it possible Mr. Favra Frave Farvee wanted the spotlight yet again, hence the errent pass? One thing about dip**** Farve that dlip cannot decide if he likes or hates is that the man plays the game like a child playing pick-up football during recess. He shows a lot of heart out there and clearly puts his heart in front of his limited brain. Every ****in play is like the end all be all for Favre. **** dlip just always imagines what it must be like at the dudes house with his family. "Gee pa you are a multimillionaire and a shoe in hall of famer. You won't be able to ****in walk in five years don't you want to just hang with the fam an enjoy your life?" "Well son if daddy stays home he won't be on sportscenter anymore and daddy just doesn't know if he can handle the world not talking about him on a daily basis. Plus your mother ****in pisses me off!"
Who knows sometimes it's fun to speculate about this guy's life. He certainly opens himself up to it with his off season circus acts.

I agree, I was surprised Simmons left them off of his list. The only reason I can assume is that they haven't had the "soul crushing heartbreaks"that the others have had, they just never got in the fight to begin with. But I feel for you, it must be tough to be a Lions fan. I for one hope that they never take away the great Detroit tradition of Thanksgiving Day, without that they don't have much, and the fans always supported it when others didn't, the NFL can't turn their backs on you guys now.

Great clip on YouTube sums up the gut punch that hit Vikings fans last night, reminds me of a young Doid screaming at Richard Todd when A.J. Duhe...well, let's not go there. Loved the intensity, the fact that he knew that Favre should have run, his daughter nervous as hell, shaking like she's going to pee, and then the barrage of F-Bombs and rage (with his daughter in the room, although methinks she's seen pops loose his ish more than a few times).

We OWNED the 50s, but it has been quite a downer since then.  When Barry Sanders walked away (when he did it [immediately before training camp began, so no chance to replace him] was a bummer [especially since he could have put the all-time rushing record out of reach forever in only a few more seasons], but I couldn't begrudge a guy wanting to not use a cane at age fifty), the franchise officially died.

As an eternal optimist, I have hope that Stafford is finally the answer.  But I also thought that Harrington was the answer, so what do I know.

No surprise there...it's like I said to my old man...if they have only "found" 15, then there has to be at least 3 times that many running around that haven't been found out.

I think the blame for the Vikings loss is shared by plenty...terrible clock management on part of the coaching staff at the end of the game, Peterson for putting the ball on the turf 3 times, the other fumbles inside the red zone, and one of the dumbest throws I have seen in a long time by Favre...

Totally agree with the fact that the Vikings would never have been there without Favre...but that doesn't mean he is free of blame for that throw...

82...I think Favre at #3 is too high...same thing with Marino at #4.  Both had a ton of yards, and Favre gets a lot of credit and rightfully so...but he does only have one Super Bowl ring...and that was almost 15 years ago.  Personal opinion...Manning jumps both of them with a win in two weeks and probably goes ahead of Elway by the end.

You dont take away a ring because it was 15 yrs ago...no one is going to take away Manning's if he is fortunate to still be playing 15 yrs from now having failed to win another.  Its not like Favre's years since winning it have been unproductive.  I do agree that Manning easily could move to #2 with a win this week.
