Doid, got any left over sympathy for a Lions fan?

With the Saints win, Detroit is now the ONLY team that existed when the Super Bowl era began who has never played in it. >:( :(

When 82 was a youngin and bled the burgundy and gold of Riggins and Co., the lions were also close to my heart....I think it was the game when they upset the Dallas Cowboys in dramatic fashion (i think it was a last second FG) that got me.  Billy Simms!!!

Garnet

last night I came across a show on The Food Network called "Unwrapped".  They did a piece on the Garbage Plate at Nick Tahou's in Rochester.

All I could think about was the members of  PP and the many mentions the Plate has been given here.

looked tasty.

I think the blame for the Vikings loss is shared by plenty...terrible clock management on part of the coaching staff at the end of the game, Peterson for putting the ball on the turf 3 times, the other fumbles inside the red zone, and one of the dumbest throws I have seen in a long time by Favre...

Totally agree with the fact that the Vikings would never have been there without Favre...but that doesn't mean he is free of blame for that throw...

82...I think Favre at #3 is too high...same thing with Marino at #4.  Both had a ton of yards, and Favre gets a lot of credit and rightfully so...but he does only have one Super Bowl ring...and that was almost 15 years ago.  Personal opinion...Manning jumps both of them with a win in two weeks and probably goes ahead of Elway by the end.

You dont take away a ring because it was 15 yrs ago...no one is going to take away Manning's if he is fortunate to still be playing 15 yrs from now having failed to win another.  Its not like Favre's years since winning it have been unproductive.  I do agree that Manning easily could move to #2 with a win this week.

Not taking away Favre's ring because of time...but lets face it, for whatever reason he has had some really terrible years since the back to back Super Bowl apperances in 96 and 97 seasons.  He has had some good ones as well with two NFC championship game appearances...but did have a few 20+ INT seasons along the wayas well.  Is/was he productive...no question.  I just think there are a few more people that should and will probably end up ahead of Favre on your list...including Brady and Manning.   Just my two cents...

Indianapolis Colts' Pierre Garcon no stranger to St. John Fisher

Pierre Garcon might have surprised many football fans with his 11 catches for 151 yards and a touchdown for the Indianapolis Colts in Sunday's 30-17 victory over the New York Jets in the AFC Conference championship game, but St. John Fisher football players caught his act three times during his college career.

In 2004, as a freshman at Norwich University, Garcon caught eight passes for 198 yards and four touchdowns in a 37-32 win over Fisher in Northfield, Vt. It was Fisher's only loss during the regular season.

"We played zone in that game," former Fisher player Steve Stepnick recalled Monday. "No one could keep up with him. He had great speed and good size."

Stepnick also was a freshman that afternoon. He went on to be a two-time Division III All-American cornerback for the Cardinals.

Garcon transferred from Norwich to Mount Union College and played twice more against Fisher.

In 2006, Mount Union beat Fisher 26-14 in Alliance, Ohio, but Stepnick and his teammates held Garcon to one catch for three yards. The Purple Raiders won the Division III national championship the following week.

In 2007, with Stepnick sidelined with a leg injury, Garcon caught six passes for 75 yards and three TDs in a 52-10 home win over Fisher.

"I was watching the game from a booth at the stadium," Stepnick recalled Monday. "Each time Garcon scored, he gave the exact stupid pose he used after Sunday's touchdown — his hands on his hips like Superman."

Stepnick, who works road patrol for the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, recalls Garcon as a gifted opponent: "Mount Union was predominantly a running team, but they made sure to get him the ball. He was easily the best receiver I ever played against, but I am surprised that any Division III receiver is doing so well. I know he had a good combine and got drafted, but I didn't think he'd do what he's doing now."

During Sunday's game, Stepnick was receiving messages from good-natured friends suggesting that the Jets should put him in the game to help contain Garcon.

Stepnick, who admittedly wasn't fast enough to play in the NFL and passed up opportunities to play in low-paying indoor leagues, is rooting for the Colts to win Super Bowl XLIV, but not because of his Garcon connection: "I'm a Peyton Manning fan."

# St. John Fisher assistant athletic director Norm Kieffer suggests that the Buffalo Bills should consider drafting another Mount Union wide receiver — Cecil Short III. He had 100 catches for 1,736 yards and 27 touchdowns this season. Garcon was the 205th pick in the 2008 NFL college draft by Indianapolis. The Bills took wide receiver James Hardy No. 41.

I think you are over-reacting a bit here PBR....all the press the spot is getting is just causing more curiosity/interest.  I give Tebow credit for making a stand which might not be that popular among folks in his peer group.

Right with you on this pbr. The ****in superbowl is no the place for that **** and Tebow needs to keep his personal **** to himself. In a conversation with others or a speech to those wanting to hear him discuss these issues fine. dlip agrees with U89 that Tebow deserves credit for his passion and commitment to his beliefs but keep that **** the **** away from football and the superbowl.

exactly pbr has no problem with whatever view he has...pbr's biggest concern is now this is going to turn the superbowl into a political science class....every  commercial more and more in the future will be from abortion, N.R.A., N.O.W., ACORN, Tea Party, etc etc etc....afraid its going to take the great american game where everyone comes together, even people who hardly watch football and turn it into a political action committee message....arent we bombarded w/ enough political crap the rest of the year? can we give it a rest for 3+ hours? rather than being inclusive superbowl day in a few years can turn out to be very divisive...

Agree completely!  I don't need some preachy whiny kid preaching at me during the super bowl...

Maybe its me.....I watch the Super Bowl for the game itself.  I rarely can even remember the commercials.

All commercials are paid advertisements....I take them as that and look at them with a grain of salt.

This kid is a college football player.  He's not the pope.  He's not the president.  He's not a senator.  He's not a$$hole Pat Robertson.  He's not a movie star.  If he wants to fight political/religious views, he should give up sports and do that.  Until then, he needs to shut his f'ing mouth and try completing a pass at the Senior Bowl...actually...try getting  a snap first without fumbling.

Maybe the abortion commercial will have some hot chicks?

Huh? So only elected officials, televangelists, or people who devote their entire life to fighting for a cause have a right to express an opinion publicly? And somehow movie stars make your list, but not athletes? Movie stars? Are you ishing me? Hey, you don't have to listen to him, but he most certainly has the right to say whatever the hell he wants, and if he finds someone with the money to  buy commercial time on the SuperBowl, good for him.

For the record, I'm not a fan of Tebow (although I think he's one of the best college QB's in history), but that has more to do with all of the hype around him and just getting sick of hearing about St. Tim. And I think that this commercial will do nothing but hurt his overall image and make him a divisive figure. But the kid certainly has conviction, and he's has the right to speak his mind, just as we have a right to get another beer while he's doing it.

JT has seen Garcon up close and personal from the Rowan sidelines.  It looks to JT that his body has matured greatly since leaving Mount Union.  And with all the work Peyton puts his receivers through, Garcon had no where to go up in skill.

It is funny how old competitors still remember thing that bother them about their opponent.
