Well it's a big day tomorrow.

National signing day!!

Wonder if Iamhuge's son got any more "offers"?

He received invitations for official visits at some D1 and D1AA schools and declined.  He has applied Early Decision 2 to a D3 school.

Good luck to your boy, Hugeness.  I hope he gets into his first choice and sees a lot of playing time.

Thanks guys...it was a difficult decision for him but he went about it in a very thoughtful and mature way.

What is an "Early Decision 2"?  I haven't heard of that.

A number of schools have different application deadlines:

- Early Decision 1 (normally Nov 15 or December 1)
- Early Decision 2 (eg Jan 1, Jan 15 or Feb 1)
- Regular Decision (eg Jan 1, Feb 1)

In most cases, if an applicant submits his application as Early Decision 1 or 2, and is accepted, the applicant is committed to enroll at the college.  The reason why you have Early Decision 1 and Early Decision 2 is so that an applicant can take a shot at a "dream school" via Early Decision 1 and, if denied, he can then apply to a different school via Early Decision 2.

congrats to your son and you. sounds like he is really set on where he wants to go and your in agreement as well. let us know if your so inclined where he chose...hopefully he gets a great education and has a great athletic career.

Well, I'm crossing my fingers hoping he gets accepted!  Since it's the only school he applied to it would be kind of a mess if he doesnt get in!

No offense, but wasn't it a little dumb to put all of your eggs in 1 basket?  Even if he gets in, what if the financial package sucks or there is some other outlier?  You need to apply to atleast 3 or 4 schools to cover all of your bases.

You can only apply as an Early Decision candidate to one school.  The coaches at most of these schools will not support your application unless you apply Early Decision.

If he doesn't get in, he will most likely PG.  He is not seeking financial aid.

Fisher and UR to hold a press conference tomorrow to announce that the Courage Bowl will be played at Paetec Park downtown.  For those that dont know, Paetec is a soccer stadium built about 7 years ago for the Rochester Rhinos.  It also hosts Section V tournament games in many sports.  I believe its capacity is in the 10-15k range.

Personally, I think it is a bad idea.  Example of egos getting in the way of common sense.  Its all about the benjamin though!

Unless you think they will have less students or attendence at the games, then why would it be a bad idea?

1.) 1 less home game each year

2.) its off campus for each team, which takes away alot of the intangibles of enjoying a small time college athletic event.

3.)  There is something nice about attending and playing in a small. cozy and packed atmosphere like both home venues are that will be lost

4.)  Many of course expect a crowd of 10k....maybe in the first year, but I expect that the same 5k fans are going to sit in a half-empty and sterile environment instead of being packed into an enthusiastic Growney or Fauver.

5.)  The Rhinos went from playing in front of average crowds of 12-14k at Frontier field (home of the Rochester Red Wings.. AAA baseball) to average of 6-8k at Paetec.  They built Paetec because of 'need' for a soccor specific stadium with more seating....Hmmmm, how is that working out.

6.) If it aint broke dont fix it....

7.)  I like peeing in port-a-potties as opposed to real bathrooms.

Good points...

The RD&C article on it states that it's a one year deal, however it could possibly be longer depending on the results...

+K for #7 although Pep will strongly disagree with you...

I do not understand for the life of me why there is an assumption that many kids would attend any bigger school rather than a D-3. Schools like Williams, RPI, Middlebury, Union and many many more have rosters that are stacked with kids that are plenty good enough to compete at bigger schools. Sometimes student-athletes actually pick schools based on academics and not what division they compete in.

Just a fact

If it were one of my kids looking to play football at the next level, you might want to think about some SUNY options as well(save some moeny and still get good education):

SUNY Buffalo (very good Business program)
Buffalo State
SUNY Albany (very good Business program)
SUNY Cortlandt (if you are looking to be a gym teacher and coach down the road, this place is for you)
SUNY Brock Port(way up North, but if options are limited)
SUNY Stony Brook
Alfred State
Morrisville State

And hes from Westchester County as he spelled Cortland like the  'Cortlandt Manor' near Peekskill.

*sigh* I need a drink.

Dad and sister lost their jobs today. Dad had 27 years in the company, about 20 of them running it. Sis worked in billing. Rat bastard owners couldn't even man up and fire Dad in person - they sent minions to do it. So much for loyalty.

Sis says Dad is taking it well. Kind of saw it coming, sort of a relief. The whole company is being shut down so he doesn't have to be the one to fire everyone else. Sis started drinking and playing Wii at 10 a.m. I think Mom and I are more p1ssed than they are.

Is dad in a position to just re-define it as 'retirement'?

Probably not. He's only 58.

The good news is, he got decent severance, and Mom has a good job. They've talked about this before, and they seemed to feel they'd be OK if it happened. I hope so...

I got terminated at 57 (illegally, but lawyers advised me they had tricked me into 'quitting').  Knowing I'd never get a job worth the effort at that age, and being able to, I decided I had 'retired'.

I often joke that if I'd known retirement was so great, I'd have done it 30 years earlier! ;D  (Of course, at that time I'd also have been homeless and starving. :()

Good luck to your sis, dad, and family.
